Texture detail on the PS3 is astonishingly good for a console that old, and much better than FC3 where there were a fair bit of blurry textures. The PS3 version of FC4 is very impressive; to me some of the most impressive programming has been on "downward ports", the SMS version of Road Rash is one of my favourites.
its weird as I remember playing far cry 3 on Xbox 360 and being blown away.Now when I go back to 360 After getting used to ps4,I find it hard to get in to the games.I find the graphics really lacking and it takes me out of the game.You find your self saying how did I ever game on this console.
But Last of us on the ps3 for me looks almost like a ps4 game. I play a lot on the ps4 especially uncharted 4 , but the visuals of the last of us always impresses me.

I remembered people saying that this game was downgraded, I actually can still say it looks great on both consoles despite that. I miss the days when graphics were being pushed to the extreme on both systems. PVZ Garden Warfare and Destiny on PS3 are my personal favorite examples of games that still stack up well against their next generation counterparts. Like they might as well be next gen, just slightly blurry. Ubisoft didn’t skimp out on the older generation, and I’m glad that their developers put in an effort to preserving their work for older systems. Definitely a telling sign when this has been the last generation that I can see a leap in. We need better for PS5 and Xbox. To this day, Farcry 4 has my favorite canonical ending to any game ever. Just eat some crab rangoon for 15 minutes and go shooting, then go back home. It’s pretty creative considering how boring Ubisoft has become since, but it’s very smart. Hard to think these games went from a thought experiment about 7th generation game design to just being a hollow parody of what it originally parodied. Insanity.

No. It’s because they designed FC3 with the older gen consoles in mind, but they designed FC4 with the new gen consoles in mind, so they have to turn down the settings on PS3.

there are many people here who are saying that there is no difference, but I am watching this video in 720p and I have noticed that there was a lot of difference! This was my favorite Far Cry game, I platinumed it on the PS3, I am thinking of buying this game again on the PS4.

Not much of a difference. I feel these companies need to focus less on making money & more on noticeable changes and advancements both in gameplay and tech.... that way it would take much much longer to release new consoles maybe 10-15 years. PS3 and ps4 are different obviously because ps4 runs 1080p native while PS3 runs 720p.i have it on PS3 and it runs fine except for the times with blurry backgrounds. Otherwise it looks fone
I am absolutely amazed with the graphics on ps4. I only had ps3 at the time when I bought farcry 4, but now I have a ps4 and tomorrow (well technically in like 12 hours bc it is 2:01 AM rn) I will be getting farcry 4 for the ps4. It sucks that I will have to start from the beginning, but that's ok.

Let's not kid ourselves, the PS4 version looks better...but by how much? If you can run the same assets and same physics on the previous platform with a smooth framerate and decent render, why bother with the new consoles? are those pixels really worth the price?
EpicBeard815 If you get the PS4 version, it means that you have a PS4. Meaning, you can run future releases that will no longer support last gen. It's ill-advised to not upgrade your PC/get a new console when it's already gaining popularity because your current console/build will be obsolete in less than a year.
EpicBeard815 The PS3 version drops frames all the time. Sometimes down to 15fps. The PS4 version is 30fps with no drops. The PS3 version is also sub-720p, upscaled to 720p, then upscales again to 1080p for your TV. PS4 is 1080p native. Just by pure technicalities it's better. Then there's the fire system which works better on PS4, the draw-distance which is far better on PS4. It's more than just pixels and framerate.

Wow the PS3 is/was so awsome! Kids playing PS4 (Pro) and XBOX One (S,X) don't understand just how big a jump there was from PS2 to PS3, it blew our minds and to think they didn't even start utilizing the hardware more fully until a few years later. PS3 was revolutionary. It's still, along with my Wii U, my main Console/ Media Device, and I do have a PS4 Pro and a Switch.
You are right on the money brother. My first console I bought was the NES, got it in 1988 when I was 12. We had the Atari 2600 and the jump was amazing. NES to Genesis , amazing. 16, 32bit, etc to PS1, amazing. PS1 to PS2 amazing. PS2 to PS3, amazing. PS3 to PS4....the law of diminishing returns took effect. When speed is measured in microseconds it really is hard to appreciate differences. Same with graphics...PS4 does look better, but the PS3 doesn't look bad next to it at all. I remembered people saying that this game was downgraded, I actually can still say it looks great on both consoles despite that. I miss the days when graphics were being pushed to the extreme on both systems.
PVZ Garden Warfare and Destiny on PS3 are my personal favorite examples of games that still stack up well against their next generation counterparts. Like they might as well be next gen, just slightly blurry.
Ubisoft didn’t skimp out on the older generation, and I’m glad that their developers put in an effort to preserving their work for older systems.
Definitely a telling sign when this has been the last generation that I can see a leap in. We need better for PS5 and Xbox.
To this day, Farcry 4 has my favorite canonical ending to any game ever. Just eat some crab rangoon for 15 minutes and go shooting, then go back home. It’s pretty creative considering how boring Ubisoft has become since, but it’s very smart.
Hard to think these games went from a thought experiment about 7th generation game design to just being a hollow parody of what it originally parodied. Insanity.

No. It’s because they designed FC3 with the older gen consoles in mind, but they designed FC4 with the new gen consoles in mind, so they have to turn down the settings on PS3.

Yeah, so PS4 wins. PS4 has higher FPS than PS3. In heavy scenes, PS3 slows down to like 20 fps, while PS4 stays at 30.

I feel these companies need to focus less on making money & more on noticeable changes and advancements both in gameplay and tech.... that way it would take much much longer to release new consoles maybe 10-15 years. PS3 and ps4 are different obviously because ps4 runs 1080p native while PS3 runs 720p.i have it on PS3 and it runs fine except for the times with blurry backgrounds. Otherwise it looks fone

I am absolutely amazed with the graphics on ps4. I only had ps3 at the time when I bought farcry 4, but now I have a ps4 and tomorrow (well technically in like 12 hours bc it is 2:01 AM rn) I will be getting farcry 4 for the ps4. It sucks that I will have to start from the beginning, but that's ok.

Let's not kid ourselves, the PS4 version looks better...but by how much? If you can run the same assets and same physics on the previous platform with a smooth framerate and decent render, why bother with the new consoles? are those pixels really worth the price?

If you get the PS4 version, it means that you have a PS4. Meaning, you can run future releases that will no longer support last gen. It's ill-advised to not upgrade your PC/get a new console when it's already gaining popularity because your current console/build will be obsolete in less than a year.

The PS3 version is also sub-720p, upscaled to 720p, then upscales again to 1080p for your TV. PS4 is 1080p native.
Just by pure technicalities it's better. Then there's the fire system which works better on PS4, the draw-distance which is far better on PS4. It's more than just pixels and framerate.
TheGajknight That's all just number crunching. I'm talking about improvements that fundamentally change the gameplay. It might be a little much asking for a new Mario 64, but at least put out games that can't be replicated on the previous console.

Wow the PS3 is/was so awsome! Kids playing PS4 (Pro) and XBOX One (S,X) don't understand just how big a jump there was from PS2 to PS3, it blew our minds and to think they didn't even start utilizing the hardware more fully until a few years later. PS3 was revolutionary. It's still, along with my Wii U, my main Console/ Media Device, and I do have a PS4 Pro and a Switch.
You are right on the money brother. My first console I bought was the NES, got it in 1988 when I was 12. We had the Atari 2600 and the jump was amazing. NES to Genesis , amazing. 16, 32bit, etc to PS1, amazing. PS1 to PS2 amazing. PS2 to PS3, amazing. PS3 to PS4....the law of diminishing returns took effect. When speed is measured in microseconds it really is hard to appreciate differences. Same with graphics...PS4 does look better, but the PS3 doesn't look bad next to it at all. There's more alike than different! PS3 is still my favorite console...
I played all the consoles and every playstation makes HUGE. No. Not huge. MONSTROUSLY HUGE jump in all the aspects! Ps4 is awesome, but ps3 was the biggest part of my childhood. Thanks to PS3 a lot.
