  • Lots of people feed their chickens grain from time to time but did you know that grain is better for them if it is sprouted. It doesnt take much effort.
This is a little long but if you take the time to watch it you will see exactly what I do to create this nutritious feed for my chickens.
I hope you enjoy it. :)

Hi and thank you for putting this great video on youtube for us. I am getting chickens soon and am trying to learn as much as I can about how to feed them without having to buy a bunch of commercial feed. I just watched a video on feeding them slugs, and that would suit me just fine, since I have lots of them in my garden, but the sprouted grains is a great idea and I do thank you. I will be looking for the DE too.

you sounds nice and care for your chocks, I was a bit surprised to see that are not free roaming in the grass, but in a smal enclosure!

You could use screen liners if that works for you. If you have something to add to what I have show I am always happy to hear about it.
    Thanks for watching :)

I wasnt able to find the video but if you want to send me the link I will have a look at it. It does sound like a good idea to have a progressive system so they can have some each day.

They have their chicken run where they can be kept safe when we are not home and at night. This is also where they are fed. I also let them out to roam around on the gras for a time each day.

suggestion: I would use a large jar with a screen that way you can rinse once or twice a day. Now with that grain also you can take a cup of grain sprout it and then spread it out on a few centimeters of soil spray mist daily and grow it up. Some use this barley fodder to feed all their animals.

Very true. I guess if it is something that people want to do they will find a way no matter what.

Yes that is a great way to make your water better for your chickens if you dont have access to fresh non chlorinated water.

People can improvise .. I have a shelving unit that can be used .., if you have an old shower you don't use you can build a 4 shelf stand with pvc pipe I have the video in How to playlist. An old bathtub since I have 2 in our home. When you grow it you can cut it down and grow some more up to 3 times. Chickens love roots too so then you can give them the 3rd round at that point. Meanwhile you can be germinating more so that you have a steady production. Can also use just water(hydroponics)

    Hi Jen
I probably dont quite say it right either but DE is diatomaceous earth. Be sure you get food grade and not the DE used in pool filters. You can often get it from stockfeed sellers as they use in their grain storage to kill weevils and other pests that eat the grain.
    I hope this helps.

    Thanks :)
I am in the Southern Highlands in NSW.
I just give the chooks DE when I sprout the grain which is about every 2-3 weeks. I dont give then grit, they have always had good shells, Sometimes it gets green shoots but this usually because I didnt have a chance to feed it to them sooner. I have not heard of using pumpkin, I will have to look into it,
I enjoy doing the videos and I am glad you enjoyed it.

Not that I have ever found. I think just giving it a rinse each day is all I have found. There may be some chemicals that might do it but that sort defeats the purpose of sprouting grain to make a more nutritious food for the troops.
    Thanks for your comment :)

Most of us have seed trays it is easy and can be economical also feeding them sprouts in between while you are waiting. I would be concerned about using the rainwater now unless it is filtered due to the chemtrails. I fill up juice jugs and let them sit on the bottom shelf cause there is no light from my window there.

Someone must have mentioned by now that a little unpasteurized apple cider vinegar in your initial soak water will help prevent fungus growth without chemical concern. Also, it would seem to make sense to soak your grain in a bucket to begin with: either strain the water into a 2nd bucket, or soak it in the strainer and just lift it out (or even make a 2nd bucket into a strainer by poking holes and stack it on top). In any case, thank you for posting.
