    I just got this laptop today, waited 9 days for delivery.
    I opted for 32GB RAM /1TB
    First thing: Screen is beautiful, HIGH quality IPS panel, high res and brightness.. you wont be disappointed here.
    No need to cry for OLED, this panel is spectacular. Absolutely no issue with glossy/reflective
    Sound from speakers is very good, i can confirm its absolutely more than OK.
    Keyboard is excellent, with backlight. Laptop is quiet and cool.
    I have tested it for few hours now, installed VSCode, Powershell, Git, Terraform, Python and other dev tools that i use.
    Battery life excels.
    Overall i am very impressed with this laptop and i absolutely recommend it!

    1. The power button behavior can easily be configured to do nothing on a single/short press.
    2. One-handed use is impractical due to the stiffer hinge (necessary for a stable touch display) and the lighter weight of the device.
    3. A 360-degree hinge isn’t essential for most workflows unless you're using pen support.
    4. The audio quality could be improved.
    5. I agree about the haptic touchpad-it should be standard, especially at this price point.
    6. Why do people think OLED is better? OLED displays have issues like screen burn-in, graininess with touch displays, and PWM at lower brightness. Compare them side-by-side and decide if these drawbacks are worth the quality difference. Manufacturers push OLED to encourage faster device turnover, so avoid buying a laptop with an OLED screen.

    In laptops and monitors IPS is a way better than OLED. OLED have these major drawbacks: burn-in due to static content, possible blurry text due to incorrect scaling, eye strain due to high contrast, headaches due to pulse-width modulation. IPS is the choice if your intent is a long work, which is the case of laptops and monitors. OLED is the choice if your intent is gaming and movies, which is the case of TVs.

Opening that stiff lid (which btw i’m glad it’s stiff for the touch screen) and having windows bounce between monitor configurations is annoying. I just want it to boot up with my external monitor only and peripherals at home. I don’t seem to have the same trouble of accidentally hitting the button when picking it up or moving it. It’s flush so it isn’t even accidentally starting in my bag. In any case, for some of us, that power button placement is the solution not the problem.

    I think the best plus point of this laptop compared to other lunar lake laptops is that it offers usb c charging in both the sides of the laptop which is not offered by Asus, Acer etc. The only other lunar lake laptop to offer this is Dell XPS 13 but then it has fewer number of overall ports. I think this laptop is a great Windows competitor to Macbook Air 15. The only valid negative in this whole review looks to be the point related to Haptic touchpad. All the other negatives are not really the negatives. I would prefer IPS over OLED any day on the laptop for better battery life and avoiding screen burns.

  • @rburch
    @rburch 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

    You say "it should have..." a lot. I respectfully disagree. Many of the things you say it "should" have are things that are user preference and might impact price point. While it might be nice to have the option between an OLED screen and/or a haptic touchpad, they're not an absolute necessity. The majority of the time, I prefer an IPS panel for the battery savings, since my laptops are typically only used when I'm on the go. As for a haptic touchpad, while it's a "nice to have" (if implemented properly), I rarely use the touchpad on my laptop since I'm using an actual mouse (even on the go). Being able to open a laptop with one hand is also a bit of a stretch. Are we really getting so lazy that we can't use two hands for the whole 1.75 seconds or less that it takes to open a laptop? While I'd agree that it's a "nice to have," and can certainly make the laptop more accessible (there might be those that it's legitimately helpful for), it's not a big deal. Of all of the things you point out as potential negatives, the only (in my opinion) that can really matter is the power button location. With that said, my wife and I have 5 Lenovo laptops - all of which have the side power button. In the time we've owned them (~ 2 years), we've probably only had an incident with the power button 5 times total. So, it really is another quality of life "nice to have" thing, but not really the biggest of deals once you get used to it and know how to best handle the machines. I like my Slim 7i Aura. I like the other Lenovo, HP, and Dell laptops lying around here too. They all have some pros and cons, but none of them are dealbreakers.

    • @rburch
      @rburch 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You're absolutely entitled to your opinion, but claiming entitlement to specific features at any price point can be a slippery slope. The value of a product is subjective, and not every "nice to have" aligns with manufacturers' priorities or what other buyers may consider essential. Fortunately, product diversity offers plenty of options to find one that meets everything you feel entitled to.

But I agree that at this price point, the design should be better, and the weight could be lighter.

    I just received the 32GB/1TB model direct from Lenovo (Might have been worth noting in the video that this combo with the 258V is an option with this laptop). I actually think the screen is quite good and it seems like you gain a not insubstantial amount of battery life from using a non OLED panel when looking at other laptops that have both options.
    The M.2 2242 SSD is a disappointment, there are very few aftermarket options out there to upgrade or replace it, and the max size available through Lenovo is 1TB.
    Sadly, mine arrived with a rattling/defective trackpad so it's going back for exchange.

    About the IPS Display ( Non-OLED ) Oled is the rage these days, everyone wants one, but this IPS display is actually more color accurate then the OLED. At Bestbuy they had this Laptop next to the OLED Slim 7X, I played the same video on both machines at the same time TH-cam 8K Faces at1440ppi, the skin town on this laptop looks so real and natural, the OLED display on the Slim 7X is garbage, everyone looks orange, the computer applies this effect that smooth out the skin texture it all looks like a water color painting. So, if you enjoy looking at natural skin towns with natural skin texture and good sharpness, the IPS display is much better. Also, they did such a good job with this display, that it has fairly deep black colors for being an IPS. Note that today, Apple still has not included an OLED display on their Macbooks and they look just as good as OLED displays. So, you can have a very nice IPS display that is actually more color accurate than OLED and looks better.

    IPS > OLED any day, for reviewers that keep their device only a few days, sure OLED is better, but for people who want to keep their device for YEARS, IPS is the way to go. OLED burn in is not an "if" but "when". Its an inherit flaw of the technology, and with text fringing and whatnot, IPS or MINI/MICRO LED makes WAY more sense for the desktop to me.
    I have this laptop, its a HIGH quality IPS. Its so rare to find a good, 90hz+ display on a non-OLED these days, this machine fits the bill, very pleased with it.

  • @andyH_England
    @andyH_England 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    Seems a solid device. I prefer IPS panels so that isn't a problem though the touchpad is a negative coming from a MacBook, but I suppose you will adjust. Still. I think the MB Air M3 remains a better choice especially as there are some great deals out there and if like me, the base MacBook Air is more than enough, then you can currently save a bit, although if you need higher spec like 32GB/1TB (£1500 in UK) then the Lenovo will be a lot cheaper--but I am not sure the majority of ultrabook users need higher config models. My Surface Laptop 4 from a few years ago is 8GB/256GB and has no issues coping the last three years with the stuff I need Windows for.
    I generally look for lower-spec laptops that go for around £800. That is how much I paid for my MB Air M2 15-inch and paid even less for the SL4 back when. Sadly, with this new trend for higher spec models, it is hard for people like me to get premium ultrabooks at these £600-800 price points anymore; £1500 for this is way too much (no cheaper option). I suppose it makes creators happy that more laptops are starting at 16GB, but for those of us who cannot afford them, it is a disappointing trend and one that influencers seemingly do not care about.

I don't like heat and fan noise and cannot stand low travel keyboards. The track pad is fine I really do not miss an heptic ttrackpad. So far though the battery life does no seem especially special. Unless you have to lower the brightness substantial and turn off the backlight keyboard. I don't care so much about the i hand opening thing, The speakers sound great. and poor audio is a deal breaker for me. You talk about the competiton, but other than the power button on the side and the I hand thing. I am sorry the oled is just not worth it. This panel looks great.
