  • Underperforming in school, struggling to follow directions, and missing social cues are all traits of ADHD and auditory processing disorder - a brain-based condition that makes it hard to process what the ear hears. Many children with APD are misdiagnosed with ADHD and given stimulant medication, which fails to help them meet the challenges of school and life. In this hour-long ADDitude webinar, Beverly Holden Johns explains the differentiating features of APD and ADHD, and strategies for helping children with either or both conditions.

How about one for adults? I have both and wasn’t diagnosed with either until in my mid-/late-20s. My then-insurance did not cover adult treatment for APD. Yeah, I’m bitter about it.

Got diagnosed later in life, but in the same boat.

Yes, please…. For adults! Just diagnosed with ADHD at age 56…
Also, I suspect that my daughter also has it, she is 16 but I really feel like she might have this auditory processing disorder also, but I would have get her valuated. I am not a doctor 😉 She does quite well in school, but I often have to repeat instructions and say 1 instruction at a time, and slower for her to be able to understand… listening to this is helping me understand her better!

      This was very interesting/informative!
I also have a difficult time processing instructions… If you give me 5 steps for example….I need to write it down, will not remember them in order I also have difficulty hearing/understanding in noisy situations, but I don’t know if ADHD or auditory processing disorder… could be both!

I was diagnosed with adhd and a referral is being made for APD and SPD and dyslexia. I can’t lip read is that connected to anything ? I find myself asking lots of questions as I don’t understand what people are implying

I find it distracting when hands and fingers are going in and out of the frame. Is that ADP?
