I just saw a video of a woman crying in Australia where they have bulldozed hundreds of acres but killing koalas in the process. Why would this be happening? My thoughts and prayers every day for everyone in Australia.

I'm from the U.S and I have been watching and keeping up with the fires. I want to commend you for the amazing work you and all those out there helping, are doing. God bless you all, the fires have been such a tragedy and my heart and love goes out to all humans and animals.
Looks like you did a decent job. If you eyes are hurting because of the smoke you might want to look at a full face respirator, you can get ebay 3M 6800 knock offs for around $50 that are pretty good, make sure you run N100 filters on them. Also in a perfect world you would probably be wearing a helmet. Having gloves available would also be a good idea though I understand some people not wanting to wear them because they do impact your dexterity but if the fire gets hot you will want them on at that time. It looks like you and the people you were with where generally reasonably well dressed though, its not uncommon to see people running around in a polyester T-shirt, shorts and thongs and certainly that's not recommended.
