Only one nitpick. The best line of that episode was Adora's responce to "And if you're smart you'll run away too." Adora: Well I'm not!... running that is, I am smart. Sure Adora.

It's so weirdly fitting that Shadow Weaver sacrifices herself. It's like one final act of selfishness, in contrast to Catra being forced to actually confront the people she wronged and fix things, Shadow Weaver gets out of it all and does it with the most smug "you're welcome" I've ever heard.
Like I was saying, I don't see that as a sacrifice, but more as Shadow Weaver being, well... Shadow Weaver. Powerful ennemies destroy our homes ? Let's use some Dark Magic. Well, we're losing ? Let's use the motherfucking bomb inside the planet. Adora won't save the world without her gay cat ? brb. Sure, she probably kind of love them, but she do it not out of love, but out of logic, because that's the way to go if she wants to win.
She's of a class of characters I describe as "frustratingly pragmatic". As far as I can tell she valued 2 things: survival and magic. No one had any better ideas to stop the Horde, so she worked an evil ritual. That ritual backfired and she needed a power source to stay alive, which the rebellion wasn't likely to provide, so she switched sides. Everything from that point was ensuring she survived, until crap hit the fan and Adora patched up that unfortunate mana leak. She then chilled out a bit, but it was still a bunch of stuff to keep the life-train rolling. I don't think you can even call what she did at the end a sacrifice. She realized that Adora wasn't going to leave Catra and vice-versa, so her choices were to either die and save the magic, or die when they DON'T save the magic.
@@rocktenlar She totally loves them (from her perspective on love at least which is debatable to everyone else) but love and family is a veeeeery low priority for her, literally the lowest of her priorities. And yeah I like the contrast with Adora: Adora keeps finding ways to sacrifice herself and seriously need to be reined in while Shadow weaver tried to explore every possible option before getting there. For once, shadow weaver has the right idea although she fucked up her kids even more now.
For the record, I absolutely believe that Shadow Weaver's sacrifice was at least partly selfish. Her last line is even "Your Welcome." Probably the most "her" line they could have POSSIBLY written for that moment. I wouldn't be surprised if "I'm so proud of you, Catra." also turned out to be a lie. She squints at Catra right after she says it. She was intentionally trying to give Catra some kind of closure to push her onwards. She was a manipulative bastard from minute one right up until the bitter end. Not that I think that's a bad thing. I adore Shadow Weaver as a character. I think she's very underrated. The rare villain on the hero's side who never really turned good. She just lost her reason for being on the villain's side.
Pretty sure it's not. While Shadow Weaver is a despicable person, mainly due to her being both power hungry, and very; VERY, pragmatical, she does love in her way both Adora and Catra. Adora at first for what she represents, and could have become, and Catra because she is a mirror of her own failures. In the end, she really thought doing the right thing by behaving like she did, to make sure both could survive in an injust and cruel world, by making them tough, and ressourcefull, while training them to trust no one. In the end, she did what was the most practical thing to do : Sacrificing herself to unsure the world is safe. But also, she finally acknowledge both her mistakes of denying strenght in friendship and love, and that her surogate daughters were able to chart their own life without her guidance, being tough enough to face the world where she couldn't. In the end, I'm sure it was the most selfless act she had ever done.Especially after the scene where she is contemplating taking the raw power of Etheria for herself, which was her primary drive her entire life.
I think her pride in Catra is genuine. It's the one positive interaction she's capable of having with her mentees. All four of them, with Catra being last, have seen her show pride in them and I suspect it's the one thing she doesnt have to fake. I also suspect she's been proud of Catra ever since she was usurped and imprisoned but was too hostile and toxic to express it.
Yuuuppppppp. The thing everyone seems to forget about that scene is what SW was trying to get Catra to do. Take Adora to her death. Not five minutes earlier that was something SW tried to do *herself* and was steps away only for Adora to go back for Catra. She was perfectly happy to sacrifice both her 'kids' to get what she wanted. It's only when she's backed into a corner that she sacrifices herself to achieve her goal. Also pay *very* close attention to what she says to Catra. "Please Catra, you need to make sure Adora reaches the heart. The magic must be set free. It's too late for me. But you, it's only the beginning for you. I'm so proud of you Catra." Bear in mind that at this point SW knows full well that using the failsafe is gonna kill Adora without She-ra. By default that would leave Catra alone with both her 'sister' *cough yeah right cough* and mom dead in quick succession. And SW just *happens* to compliment her specifically. Not Catra and Adora together but Catra herself. Setting Catra back into her older mindset of self-preservation while giving her a mission that's all about getting Adora to where she needs to be to die for them all. Nothing partial about it, this is a completely manipulative act on the part of Shadow Weaver and the fact some read it as a redemption really shows just how good she (and by extension the writers) are at manipulating those around her.
@@smiddlehurst1 Respectfully disagree; when she laid out the fact of carrying the failsafe, she was doing EXACTLY as Adora asked back in the Bright Moon's prisons: Trusting that Adora could see through her lies and telling her the truth. The failsafe was likely MADE for Mara to deactivate the heart and thus NATURALLY meant for She-Ra to carry. Does Shadow Weaver know the casualty rate of the heart? Not at all. But she's not gonna hide that from Adora. I am DEFINITELY not saying Shadow Weaver didn't manipulate these kids, but the point of her sacrifice and the message it was meant to send really isn't aa deep and dastardly as everyone makes it out to be. She realized, too late, how terrible her mistakes were and only knew of one way to save Adora and Catra + give them a modicum of closure and that was to die, gambling that the act would be enough to help Adora utilize her power as She-Ra - another observation Shadow Weaver was likely aware of.
I think in maybe 3-5 years (so fans can make fanimations and fan art, the crew can rest, and so the show can breathe) there should be a movie with the plot of spreading magic back to the universe but then it slowly and nicely pacedly (that's a word now, I don't care) turns into trying to figure out how to free Angella (but it would be a tough concept because it's really interesting to see a show where a secondary character "dies off" and doesn't come back) while looking into Micah's conflicted feelings about Catra. She aided in trapping his wife between dimensions but she also risked her life to save his daughter's. Something like that would be interesting to me. But it would absolutely have to be a 2hr movie so it doesn't have to cut out important things like how Spinel got the injector and bio-poison in Steven Universe: The Movie.
It's funny. Netflix said they could only confirm background characters so they confirmed ALL the side characters then Netflix was chill with main characters being gay so now the whole show is gay.
We gotta give it to Noelle, she was pretty fucking smart. She played her cards so well, taking Catra and Adora through a journey that made impossible for the executives of Netflix deny her request of making the kiss come true;
My one (minor) complaint with this show is that it almost went so far that it ISN'T diverse. The only straight male character who isn't a villain or comedic relief is Bow. Even Micah is mind controlled shortly after returning late in the show.
@@emc246 and actually Bow is not confirmed to be straight either. He is probably bisexual, because he gushes and blushed a lot when he met Sea Hawk for the first time! And seriously, I won't complain about a show with no clear straight representation, it's like the only one on Earth
They....really shouldn't tbh. Saving Entrapta and avoiding mass genocide from his 'dad' should NOT free him from guilt of the mass genocide he himself caused and was attempting to.
@@InRealTime769 Most definitely, yeah. It's like that internet pic of Steven Universe hugging Hitler and saying it's fine cuz he said sorry. ..except less satirical and more literal.
I still think the most f up thing in this show is how Glimmers mother, who is an immortal being, is trapped in a place between dimensions were she can't escape from. She can't even die in there.
I thought about that quite a bit. Being trapped in nothingness for eternity is FAR worse than dying. It makes me sad they couldn't kill her off because of Netflix, it sucks she's basically stuck in limbo for all of eternity without her family or planet.
@@PokeMageTech she took adora's place right before the portal time warp thing was reversed because if she didn't, time and space would be screwed forever. And since angella is quite literally an angelic being that cannot die, she's stuck there in a vast empty dimension for eternity. No doubt to go insane but never dying from her madness, which is the worst kind of torture imo. Quite dark for a kids show geez
The space cat was sO MUCH BETTER than Keith randomly getting a space wolf (bc I dont remember a single thing the wolf did for the story. Meelog meanwhile helps immensely to help Catra control, work through, and express her emotions)

Noelle Stevenson mentioned that she has some lore for She-Ra even though it's not directly in the show. Basically it's that if someone gives someone something important to them, it's basically like officiating a relationship. That's why Netossa and Spineralla have swapped necklaces, and in Adora's dream for the future Catra has her cape and we see Bow and Glimmer sharing earings. We even see it in her new transformation when we see Adora gain Catra's mask when turning into She-ra. That makes me wonder if that meant that the crystal (a piece of first ones tech, something Entrapta treasures greatly) meant a lot when she gave it to Hordak I could be wrong, I'm just thinking to myself.
That was one of the head artists not Noelle sadly. They got a bit confusing cause that would mean Adora is engaged to Glimmer and Bow too due to her tributes to them in her Shera outfit. He should've just said the item exchange should be between two people sharing two intimate items, like Bow and Glimmer sharing Angella's earrings in Adora's ideal future. That would've been a lot clearer.
2 fun facts: In Adora's vision she imagined her and Catra married, also Bow and Glimmer married. Catra's full name is Catra Applesauce Meowmeow, no joke.

Angela's rescue is the perfect excuse to either have S6 or a movie greenlit if canon fluff and space travel would not be enough for the stuffy execs to hand over money.
No, Angella's sacrifice would lost meaning. Its good to have some characters gone. But theres lots of storys to tell: Catra's species and family, the space rebels, the remaining Hordaks, the first ones and the first She-Ra, bringing magic to the universe, new princesses of power, and couple dynamics.
@@robertoguevara1400 Well it would be fitting for the main goal for a movie to be rescuing Angella because in the Secret of the Sword it's OG Adora's first real mission as a rebel leader. Just have the BFS in Adam's place and bingo!
She just looks tan, she hasn't really been given an ethnicity, but she's definitely more dark than Adora. However, Mara in her normal form has dark brown hair, but when she's She Ra, she has blonde hair. So I think the blonde hair is a She Ra trait, and the dark skin is a Mara trait.
"Did you just jump into fire for me?" sounds so much like a hilarious last minute line but knowing Noelle 🖤, she definitely wanted a line like that to be there from the beginning 🤣
I only found out this show existed 5 days ago. Since that time, I've watched the entire series and many of the TH-cam reactions / recaps. I love that you got the complexities of Shadow Weavers sacrifice. So many people are whining about "cheap redemption" but that's not what it was. It was a selfish act by Shadow Weaver, and it was important closure and confirmation for Catra. Despite all the abuse, and all the hatred between them, Catra and Adora still had very complex feelings for Shadow Weaver, because regardless of everything else, she still raised them.
I mean it was *half* selfish and half selfless. Sacrificing herself *was* a calculated move to regain importance to her surrogate daughters, but that's still... y'know, literally giving her life to save Catra's for no tangible reward. At the very least it's proof that her relationship with them was worth more to her than her hunger for power and revenge, as she very literally gave up everything else to maintain it.

Shadow Weaver was consistently my favorite character throughout the show (A+ Voice Acting Lorraine Toussaint) and I absolutely loved her ending. I was worried they would do her dirty in an attempt to make her downfall cathartic, but instead she got to unapologetically go out on her own terms, ruining something's day with a magical explosion having accomplished what I headcanon has been her overarching objective for much of the show, and as a side bonus she got to give Catra and Adora emotional baggage one final time. "You're welcome" was such an unbelievably smug final line to give her. Shadow Weaver flipped us off before jumping face-first into hell and for that I think her ending is going to rank among my top ones for a long time.

MegaChickenfish
*Smug face intensifies*
I know right I was really rooting for a scene where Catra and Adora beat her to death with wiffle bats but I guess not
@@rocktenlar She totally loves them (from her perspective on love at least which is debatable to everyone else) but love and family is a veeeeery low priority for her, literally the lowest of her priorities. And yeah I like the contrast with Adora: Adora keeps finding ways to sacrifice herself and seriously need to be reined in while Shadow weaver tried to explore every possible option before getting there. For once, shadow weaver has the right idea although she fucked up her kids even more now.

@@ag-dn1vl I meannn thanks!?!
Catra deserved it more. She did her crimes and evil out of her own choice not slave mind control like the clones.
I'm so proud of you Catra."
Bear in mind that at this point SW knows full well that using the failsafe is gonna kill Adora without She-ra.
@@zaya21ayame I really don’t understand why everyone hates shadow weaver and loves catra
So Glimmer's mom didn't die. She was trapped. Trapped. Angella is immortal. She's going to be trapped forever.
She'll be the mentor for the new She'Ra in the future after being accidentally released.
Oh shit she's immortal I forgot!

It's funny. Netflix said they could only confirm background characters so they confirmed ALL the side characters then Netflix was chill with main characters being gay so now the whole show is gay.
We gotta give it to Noelle, she was pretty fucking smart. She played her cards so well, taking Catra and Adora through a journey that made impossible for the executives of Netflix deny her request of making the kiss come true;

That makes me wonder if that meant that the crystal (a piece of first ones tech, something Entrapta treasures greatly) meant a lot when she gave it to Hordak
I could be wrong, I'm just thinking to myself.
Future Catra has the wing symbol thingie Adora wears on her belt
That was one of the head artists not Noelle sadly. They got a bit confusing cause that would mean Adora is engaged to Glimmer and Bow too due to her tributes to them in her Shera outfit. She-Ra 2020: Everything is gay. No really, everything is gay.
Even the planet itself is gay
At the end of the show, they said they were gonna bring magic back into the universe.
So, very soon, the whole universe will be gay
Those rainbows at the end weren’t a coincidence
Gayness will rule the universe!
Straightness has been an illusion. Men and women discover they are separate species, and have only been deluding each other into thinking it was natural.
Unpopular opinion:
Rogelio X Kyle is the best couple in the show
Rogelio, Kyle and Lonnie are a throuple
Marahope...
You mean Seahawk and Mermista.

not cannonically, it's just Noelle's headcannon that she has explicitly stated isn't an ACTUAL detail in the story but something she just likes to think about.
So how many ships are we making canon?
YES.
Though honestly it's almost surreal that one of these series finally followed through.
I was literally thinking "when will sarcastic chorus will make a summary on she ra season 5". I go on youtube and there it is
Same
Thank you, its all thanks to your wish!
24:32 the fact that two dads raise their son on dad jokes is something I cherish in my heart, because it’s so hilariously expected! Honestly love them all!
„And cracked out squirrel, who’s only personality trait is well..

She’s like a tech savvy Hammy
Honestly, my biggest complaint about this season was the lack of an epilogue, but other than that, any other issues I have are really just nitpicks.
Noelle said she's down for an epilogue but she also doesn't want to ruin the beauty and ambiguity of the finale.
@@47ratsinahoodie Which is a painful but good position. As much as I'd love more, I have no idea how they could do anything like what we've already done without diminishing it in some form. It's just so nicely contained and final.
15:30 'Enemy ships attack' underrated joke X'D
Also 33:19 can we take a second to appreciate how well the voice actress absolutely nails this one? Like, holy shit chills
Theres countless of moments in She Ra were AJ Michalka shines and delivers stunning work. My personal favorite is the season 3 confrontation with Shadow Weaver “You couldn’t wait to get away from me. But you came back for Adora!”.
I'm still focused on the fact that the show made Kyle's crush on Rogelio is canon.
Lolli_Popples
Someone told me that in the French dub instead of “Kyle has a crush on Rogelio” it’s “Kyle has a crush on Catra” I still cant get over it lmfao 😭
Oooh. That means they’ve been mistreating a gay character this whole time...
"Light of my life, Scorpia".
Oh big big BIG mood here! I wouldn't have called her otherwise.
The "call me Luke Skywalker" killed me lmao
I cared so little about the Shadoweaver sacrifice that alone in my room I said "Oh no! How sad" in the most sarcastic manner possible.
"Was I able to become a hero?"
"Yes. The worst."
Gaslighting the pair of them till the very end.
Good riddance
Did you say it in Mermista voice?
@@panicbutton426 pretty much!
My hardcore fan-ass can't get over you saying "Cadora" instead of "Catradora"
same
Fun fact- the team actually referred to it as Catdora

Don't mind me, I'm just banging my head on my desk.

@@aspenamiko6058 well dang so eben the ship name is cannon
Catra be like: she doesn't want me not like I want her

Look at my bio 💅
Everytime you called someone straight I laughed because we all know there are no straight people on She-ra.

@@tami3421 you are correct but there are a lot of other sexualities but definitely
@@tami3421 There is also polyamorous (I don’t know how to spell it)
All of the people in hetero relationships will still fall for other genders. There are no straight characters in She-ra
I like the Wrong Hordak gets adopted by Entrapta headcanon (although I believe that it's canon that Hordak is a jealous person so he might not really like WH).
I though the exact same thing, that hordac would get jealous that he got replaced
Eh. At this point he should just be happy there's someone with her own kingdom that doesn't want to throw him in jail. He really shouldn't complain no matter how many clones she decides to adopt.
I was hoping for Entrapta to have a Hordak harem.
@@wendyheatherwood I mean, yeah. But if there's ever something threatening anyone and Hordak and the clones (that sounds like a band name, lol) stopped it, I'm sure people would slowly become more and more tolerant of them.
Kind of like new little-brother-in-law who comes to live with them
scrolled down the comments and couldn't find anyone talking about how cute perfuma and scorpia look but HEY THEY BECAME MY FICTIONNAL MOMS I LOVE THEM SO MUCH !!!!
I freaking love Scorpia
We not gonna talk about how Catra literally yeeted glimmer into space and just assumed that Bow and Adora would arrive before the vacuum of space kills glimmer
She was sent in an escape pod.
“Too gay and alive for Voltron” OHHHHH YAS THROW THAT SHADE
I have huge concentration and memory issues sometimes and I can't tell you how *actually* useful these summaries have been to me, on top of being hilarious :" 💕
I am fifteen minutes into the video and I am absolutely loving all the digs he makes towards swiftwind! I love pretty much all the characters in the show (even shadow weaver), but seriously, that horse drives me nuts!
It is great when a show sticks a landing, it can even save otherwise mediocre or mixed shows. Reminds you of just how important the landing is to a stories reception.
Cough Game of Thrones Cough
Even media outside of television. Look at Mass Effect 3. Pretty decent game but that ending was so awful it kinda ruined the trilogy.
Calling out steven universe over here
"Adora doesn't want me! Not like I want her..."
Ad: **plays extremely dramatic music**
Adora's face when Catra gets her out of the fire is my spirit animal.
Shut up!
