    HIBISCUS is a genus of a flowering plants, like that one called Rose Of Sharon. In here, it's called GUMAMELA. When we were kids, we used to add the flower to a mixture of laundry soap and water to make bubble blow. Makes the bubble big and long lasting.

    Enjoying your obsession with Okinawa. Have always wanted to visit the Hawaii of Japan, but after walking with you ... I even know where I want to go (at least a beginning schedule). Don't eat meat or friend, so do have to fast forward through your meals / snacks. Best part for me is when you walk 'n talk ... camera facing forward and you read those signs for us and alert us to the shops. Love looking at the landscape in the residential areas, the diversity of shops / home n an area, and the way people dress. I am ready to get my tickets ... probably in 2022 (spring / fall). Keep striding Shinichi!

    Nice stuff! I lived on Okinawa for 18 years and the only thing I don't eat is Spam (OD'ed when I lived there) but Goyaa is my favorite veg. We used to buy all our kamaboko from Jirambayaa, they really are the best. My uncle used to dive for mozuku during our beach parties where we would put shiikwaasaa juice or vinegar on them. Spaghetti from the sea!

    Thank you for another Okinawa video. If I'm not mistaken, the reason a lot of the foliage reminds you of Hawaii is due to the after affects of WWII. Are you familiar with 'Pigs from the Sea'? I know there are some YT video's about it. It's how Hawaii's Okinawan community helped Okinawa by shipping a bunch of pigs on a boat. Because of WWII, they needed help to get pig farmers back on their feet. According to my uncle, the vegetation was also decimated and Hawaii also supplied a lot of that, too.

    I am curious to understand the differences between "PO" and Musubi. Of course, fillings are different, the way the nori is used is also dufferent. But the pork, is it close to the usual Spam ? more sweet ? A different canned product, or a specific local recipe ? Is the rice seasonned differently ? Thanks for this nice discovery :-) Cheers to you both from Canada !

    • @Shinichisworld
      @Shinichisworld  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The one at this shop isn’t really a true onigiri. It’s what I’d call a rice sandwich. Nigiri in onigiri means to mold with the hands. The PO is constructed rather than molded.
      I’m not sure about what pork they use though. It could be spam. Also the rice is seasoned the same way as onigiri. Just a little bit of salt to taste.

    Yes, many shops have closed permanently because they lost so much income during the lockdown. We're still being careful because of the Delta strain, even with the 3 Covid shots (boosters are still available). I feel sad for the shops that had just opened briefly before lockdown, most of them didn't even had a chance. But now as things open up a little more, a few new shops have opened. During lockdown, we were encouraged to support the local stores and many eateries you could order food onlne (and some on the phone) and have it either delivered or you could go pick it up, couldn't go into the store though, they'd bring your food out to your car or out to you on the street. I hope the shop owners learned how to be creative and more open minded about how their businesses could be continued during unexpected events--they put up outdoor dining areas with the seating at least 6' apart. I have never liked crowds and will continue to avoid being in crowds whenever possible. Maybe of the food stores, like grocery stores, got into deliveries (for a fee) but the Japanese grocery stores never did and I missed being able to buy Japanese groceries over the past 2 years.
