The plant at 15:15 is a pennywort, it will have tiny white flowers eventually and is a great ground cover, grows very fast and loves the water. I have some in my bog filter and it took it over, no other plant in there now but the pennywort. You may end up trimming it back by the end of summer, it dies back in the winter, and springs back to life in the spring. It grows from the roots, like a tuber sort of. Soon you’ll have a ton of it! I certainly do!

    Dear Jennie
Having recently lost my father i realised how much pets/animals play a big part in our lives, having had many dark days it's having my fish and especially my 2 Chihuahua's that depend on me and give me so much love unconditionally that have helped me through the dark times. I've ordered one of your prints just to show my appreciation. Keep up the good and keep smiling x

The soil you have looks very sandy, to help protect the grass it may be an idea to add organic matter. You can do that gradually with a fine compost raked into the lawn. It encourages microscopic life to enrich the soil profile which in turn encourages the roots to go deeper. Organic matter also acts as a shock absorber. It will take a long time as the organic matter gets broken down constantly. Palmer looks like a cute happy pupper, it’s great watching him go about his day in the background 😄

Unfortunately, I am having a major hip surgery on 4/30, so 6 days away and won’t be able to break ground this year for our dream pond. The pond looks so beautiful now. It grew in so lovely. The fish are beautiful. I don't have a lot of space in my yard but I just upgraded my "feeder" goldfish, my biggest is around 8", to 300 gallon stock. A water bridge will connect the new and old "pond" so they will have access to both. I would love to have what you have for a pond. It is so pretty.

Good to see you back! I learned my lesson years ago in my koi pond. After growing them up from when they were 3", a great blue heron made 2 visits to my backyard pond in one week and ate all of the koi that were in the pond. It was so disappointing. Ever since we use a taught mesh netting that sits a few inches above water level. Enough room for water lettuce to still float around. I'd recommend it! You barely see it if you keep it taught. :) welcome back!

Hi Jenny! I have a 60 gallon plastic pond inside my patio area. I also had a lilly and the 2 big goldfish in there never stopped eating it. But recently I have been rooting pothos in the pond just for looks. I would use small plastic plant containers that I cut the bottom out of so the roots would be under the water, but the leaves themselves would be out of the water as I thought they would die and rot if in the water too much. I put paper clips on the pots through holes to hang the pots on the side of the pond.Long story short some of the pothos leaves got really huge (the roots too). Sorry this is so long.... to get to my point, the huge pothos leaves are now laying on the water surface and they look like beautiful Lilly pads! The leaves seem to be just fine on the water surface and the fish don't touch them. Lilly problem solved! Thought you might like to try it! Love this video. You sound just like me. I love to sit and listen to my pond. The only thing different is that I have bird feeders outside the screen too. That would be cool for you and your kitties to watch too!

Love your pond fellow central Floridian! Glad to see an update especially with plant talk- I’m also obsessed! If you are interested in a fast growing flowering shrub that attracts hummingbirds, try Mexican Petunia. The small round leaf plants around the pond look like dollar weeds which can get out of hand if you’re not careful, my backyard has tons.
In my pond, I planted an arrowhead plant that’s taken off and leaves grow above water but also offer nice cover.
We have hawks, owls and other birds of prey in my area so I’ve tried to “hide” my fish- from above anyway- as best I can.
Palmer is the sweetest! ❤️ I also have 4 kitties!

The plant growing next to your waterfall is dollar weed I believe. Also you could plant pineapples. They look similar to agave with the sharp leaves. They so simple to plant and low maintenance. Just cut the top off of one and put it in the ground! Takes about 2-3 years for its first fruit. Spider plants (like snake plants) are another one you might like, easy and can leave out all year. Love how your pond turned out! And yes dogs defiantly don’t give your grass a chance to grow in Florida! Lost cause. Lol

You might enjoy chocolate mint in your yard. If kept confined in a small planter it's leaves stay smaller and it sort of trails over the sides. If you touch it it smells like chocolate mint. I have some that I let have a patch to grow in the year instead of confined. It will try to take over if allowed freedom to spread but it might work where Palmer runs around. He might limit it's ability to spread. The best part about letting it have freedom is when the lawn is mowed the chocolate mint smell is so wonderful and lasts for several hours, at least here it does. It could be different in different climates.

The plant near the waterfall that sways around that you like, theyre called dollar weeds (: . They are a pain here in fl where i live because they take over every flower bed, but theyre string like so you can get a lot if you follow the roots when pulling them.

You can make a little pathway to your pond with stone when the jasmine grows so you don’t have to worry about stepping over it or you can do that around the pond also 🙂 think that would look nice

Love your little pond area and the cozy backyard you've created. I also live in Florida with the same type of sandy/dusty dirt under the grass. My two dogs have done the exact same thing to my yard. It sucks during the summer with thr daily rain storms hahah

A really good pond plant is actually papyrus! The fish wont eat them and they grow really well in just the dirt they come in. The lily’s do tend to get eaten by the goldfish down to the bulb if left in. We rotate our lily pads and that keeps them from getting eaten down too far and gives them a chance to grow. The little round leafed plants are pennywort btw! They are an herbaceous plant native to Florida that is actually edible. Theres a really great app that can help you identify natural flora and fauna that might pop up around your pond called iNaturalist where you can snap a picture and it’ll provide you with the names of the closest match. Ive been testing it for awhile and it works really well! Love your videos and your pond is beautiful💛

Try cris-crossing fishing wire across the pond about a foot above the water! Will stop birds from taking any fish plus with it being fishing wire, you wont see it unless your up close!
