Me! I have a 27G patio pond that I built for less than $80 including fish and plants! I've got longfin gold and leopard danios, a rescued red-tailed shark, albino gold mystery snails, water hyacinth (and some "pest" snails they brought with them), aponogeton, water onion, duckweed, anubias, java windelov, and anacharis. I have a sponge filter, and a little shelf I made into a trickling waterfall too. I found the liner that you suggested at home depot, and I think I'm going to get one, since I like the round shape better, and I'm using a rectangular container.

      2. Get at least 29 more cages because there's a horde of them.
      3. Catch them and figure out where to put them
      4. Build pond and enjoy.
LOL. There's too many, it's illegal to kill them because they're not a threat. They don't carry rabies here and are, somehow, fairly friendly. Anywho, as much as I'd like a pond, it's not going to happen at this particular house. I could never hurt a raccoon anyway, they're just doing as they do. It's also illegal to trap and release them elsewhere lol.

We had a 2’ x 6’ x 3’ deep metal stock tank in the ground fish pond just off our back deck for 11 years. We had water lilies and arrow plant potted in the base of tank and a rush plant on top of 2 cement blocks on one end. Also had floating plants. Originally added 8 3” gold fish that later multiplied to 14 over time. We put in a filter system on the outside of pond with a waterfall entry to run during the spring, summer & fall + a ‘bubbler’ all year round. Had a piece of cork wood that birds could land on in the center as well. Added a stock tank heater during the winter to keep the fish alive. This was in northeast corner of Kansas. Planted a variety of annuals, perennials and a rose bush on 3 sides of the pond. Loved sitting on our deck listening to the water fall and the many insects and frogs that also enjoyed the area.

Love it! I did one in a half whiskey barrel and it’s on my front porch. It looks amazing and I have 8 little goldfish that I love to watch. I use the small AQUAScape container garden pump/filter and I have several plants in it as well. So far the water is clear and everything seems healthy. 🤞🏻 I’m a little worried about the heat this summer(Florida). Again, thanks for sharing!

    • @cathlinejohnson9179
      @cathlinejohnson9179 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@xburningindigo Ive learned a lot this past year about fish keeping, specifically goldfish. I realized it was WAY overstocked with goldfish. They are huge poop producers and I had not cycled the water to make it safe for them. I upgraded to a 40 gl tub but The water still got very hot as it was above ground. I eventually re-homed those fish and upgraded to a 100 gallon stock tank from tractor supply. I stocked it with 8 oranda goldfish instead of common goldfish as they don’t grow quite as large. I have lots of filtration and plants and do 75% water changes every week. It’s in my air conditioned and heated sunroom so it’s out of the elements. There was a lot to learn but I love it! Best of luck!

I would love to see some Carp in there! You could either have 2 Common/Comet/Shubunkin Goldfish/American Koi or up to 5 Egg-Bellied ("Fancy") Goldish! If not, I would definitely recommend some Fathead Minnows no questions! They are beautiful fish that get quite large (well, at least in MY experience!). They get along extremely well with Goldfish as well as Shrimp, Snails, etc (pretty much any fish that's okay with them), but usually if you want them to breed, you'd have to keep their temperature at around 52-56 degrees to have them breed, which is why they make such good companions for Carp! I once had 3 large male Fathead Minnows (2 common and 1 "Rosy Red") which grew 2.5 INCHES!!! They are such sweet, fascinating creatures! I would also definitely recommend some Bristlenose Plecostomus, Mystery Snails, Ramshorn Snails, Cherry/Amano and Ghost Shrimp, or maybe even some VAMPIRE SHRIMP!!! Those guys are insanely cool!

I have a turtle pond. I built a wooden cage around my pond and filled it with sand. My purpose was to keep my dogs from eating my turtle and to keep the pond from getting too hot.

Nice job! 9:24 Frog planter -- I am thinking that is a Spike Rush -- Eleocharis of some sort - palustris maybe? Pretty much always found with it's roots in mud or shallow water. Remember kids -- "Sedges have edges and Rushes are round!" ;)

Pozzolane is indestructible & keep all his efficiency for years without changing or clean so it's the best .
In addition i & it's up to me , add Wood coal with it on the filter to have optimal cleaning .

MurkinWithMichael You could only put fancy goldfish in that sized pond and only two if daily water changes aren't gonna happen. And fancy goldfish are better inside than outside, along with not being able to put other kinds of fish with them unless it's snails or a pleco. Not good pond fish for this pond.

And small flowering plants would be good beside the shelf of grassweed I think.
The frog pot was a great idea. It adds a nice touch
The brown dirt is alright, but it makes it look less cleaner than say...smooth gray/black rocks or white smooth pebbles.
Would it be nice to add a "zen" rock, a big jagged one, so you can grow moss on the rock or some succelent varieties? Behind the plants so it adds a nice backdrop?

That paint I use for fake rock in fish tanks that's drys with no toxic residue you could have put that in the whole thing. Benefit to coating the whole Pond would be lower heat temperature black conducts heat. But good job.
