This Ninja 500R is a masterpiece of motorcycle styling. Everything is integrated without all the sharp angular visuals of modern sportbikes and the cockpit looks like that of a jet aircraft...A true blend of Kawasaki reliability and rolling sculpture . Two thumbs up !

I have a 2008 it was dropped pretty badly a few times (by previous owners) when I bought it but it runs fine. Its my first bike. I had to change the spark plugs and extended mirrors because half of my mirror reflection is my arms. I get about 45 miles per gallon and if I'm a dick to it can run it dry at 168 miles on a tank (not recommended) The carburetor gives it less of a power shock when it comes to the throttle but Kawasaki is known for its torque and this isn't an exception. I really like it being in the desert around mountains and highways where everything is far apart and is a good hour to anything. The lack of a fuel gauge doesn't bother me, since I intentionally ran it dry at 168 and it starts dying at 148 I just refill it every 130 miles on each tank. The most I ever paid to fill it was $14 on premium gas. Its my only mode of transportation and starts fine with choke in 32 degrees in the desert morning. I just have to make sure I have enough layers, but leaning forward and hugging the tank to use the windshield to have the airflow not hit you in the chest is a good key thing to remember in winter.

It's trully a beautiful machine. The look of this bike goes along with the aesthetics of the 80ths that's becoming more popular in fashion, popculture in general, on Netflix series etc. The fact it was produced until 2009. says alot. So, quite old or true classic? I'm planning to buy one as a first bike because it is a classic.

I have been riding since 1992. I've had lots of bikes. Picked up a silver 2004 Ninja 500 in June for $1500. 17K, decent shape. Replaced the fork seals and added bar risers. This is a GREAT all-around bike. Comfy. Powerful enough. Reliable. Parts readily available. Cheap to insure. It's a fine bike. Wish I was smarter and bought one sooner. Mine is more or less a toy (used for recreation and occasional commuting). I am 46, 5'9" and 180 lbs. fits me perfectly.

This is a great starter bike. I was planning on getting a 500 when I first started ride but I got a ex250 instead. The only down side the ex250 and the ex500 are the forks and the stock tires, which is pretty bad. Do consider at least putting heavier oil in the fork and a decent set of tires. Have fun and ride well.

I have had mine over a year now and i still ove it, although if I can get the money saved up i will upgrade to a 600, probably fz6r. You will really like the upright riding position and thats why i wont go to a 600 super sport. If your gonna be riding it a lot youll want the upright position

I'm not sure why people consider this bike ugly. I mean, it's not the best looking bike, but it looks decent for what it is. It's almost better than a very good looking bike, because you're not as worried you're going to drop it. I'm considering this bike as my first bike, as the Ninja 400 is too expensive for me at the moment, the SV650 or FZR6 is too powerful, Honda CB500R a bit too docile. Haven't got my drivers license yet tho, and where I live that does cost some money for training and exams, very strong regulated (netherlands). I wish Kawasaki or Suzuki made another 500 sport tho.

Like the others have said, use the reserve but after the first time needing to fill up after running a full take you can use your trip miles to Guage how much a tank will get you. If I'm not reving a bunch or wasting gas I can usually get 160MPT and about 35mpg. Just remember to reset your trip meter at each fill up.
