Great story but another story why can’t you break down each market by market and figure out why some of the markets are paying stupid money like a dollar a mile and $1.38 a mile on XL so why can’t those markets be the same everywhere what does it have to be so different and piss other drivers off and why are there so many drivers and everybody wants to do a brand new dance you can’t get mad at anybody that wants to get on the Uber platform if they’re making funny money or Lyft which I don’t do Lyft so I can’t talk about Lyft but I can’t talk about Uber as you will know I work from home now let’s talk about drivers that work from home making $2000 a week. Yes they exist. Let’s find them and tell their story there’s thousands of them but we’re under the radar because we don’t really want people to know what we make because they always get pissed off because other drivers are not getting paid properly so if Uber can pay us that kind of money, why can’t they pay everybody else exactly the same because there’s too many drivers that’s the big headlines get rid of some of the drivers just like to do in New York. Everybody can’t get on Uber and Lyft in New York as a waiting list what happened with having a waiting list? I don’t know you tell me and why does the professor always block people that has an opinion other than his, yeah Mr. Toreson you always block people that have another opinion if you don’t agree with him you don’t agree at all but you have a good one. Great story keep up the good work fight the big fight it was $.61 a mile that you guys have been getting paid is ridiculous, thanks a lot. Hope this comment stays up I’m just saying.

Torsten just brought a great point.
I could tell you about but I'll spare. Let's just say I had a rider who wanted to give me a $25 tip.
When he went into the app to do so, Uber told him he could only pay me $20 because the trip was to short. What balls!

If these companies expect us to pick up a passenger at point a and drop them off at point B while having a clean safe comfortable car for three dollars the education to the passenger should be to take public transit. I don't know any location in the United States a cab will pick someone up and drop them off even just down the street for three dollars.

Good Luck...it's bad enough we are NOT offered decent pay...but the idea Lyft/Uber can actually protect drivers is really just lip service...criminals don't after difficult targets, and let's be honest for a moment - Uber/Lyft Drivers are easy targets for criminals...the best way to protect yourself is to get yourself into a position financially where you don't have to drive Uber/Lyft...and if you just love driving & flexibility - just remember the price of that is the lack of safety that Uber/Lyft can provide...

    • @psaint60
      @psaint60 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

Being a riide share driver will never be 100% safe.
Let’s face it, just about anything can happen anywhere in Chicago-even if you’re not a rideshare driver.
I have a patch on my jacket that reads:
      “No One Is Coming.
      It’s Up To Us.”
It is unrealistic to expect Uber or the police to protect you if a passenger decides to become violent.
Drivers need to understand they are their own first responders.
You must be an active participant in your own rescue.
Your first line of defense should be your situational awareness. You will win 100% of the fights you never get in. See a problem before it becomes your problem.
Leave yourself an out. Always keep your doors locked. Always have your car positioned for an easy exit.
Always position your car so you can get a good look at who is about to get in your car.
This should be your final screen before unlocking your doors. If anything you see now doesn’t look right or feel right, this will be your final opportunity to leave.
I advocate that everyone should know some form of self defense. Driver or not. It is a good investment in yourself and if nothing else improves self confidence and helps eliminate a victim mindset.
Strongly consider force multipliers. Predators avoid fights they feel they will lose. Predators will do whatever they can to improve their chances of success so you must do the same.
I have seen people be very effective defending themselves with a small, high lumen tactical flashlight (like Streamlight)
They are bright enough to temporarily blind an attacker to give you a few seconds to either escape or to get off the “X” and counterattack from a different position.
Most of these lights have serrated edges that create a good striking surface.
Pepper spray/Bear spray/Wasp spray are also options but have the downside of possibly negatively affecting you.
They will also render your car virtually unusable until you can clean the interior.
Knives, box cutters, ice picks are another good equalizer. Fixed blades are probably best for emergencies.
Obviously, it’s hard to top concealed carry as your last line of defense. Unfortunately, this is not supported by any of the platforms, but if you need to employ deadly force to
prevent a passenger from causing you death or severe bodily harm, being deactivated will be a small price to pay for your life.
Carrying is a huge responsibility and requires training and regular practice to ensure you are an asset, not a liability.
Look up the Active Self Protection channel to see hundreds of examples of good and bad outcomes in this realm.
Never forget your car itself may be your best asset when things go suddenly sideways.
Thug lifers rarely wear seatbelts. You should always have yours on.
It will keep you from being dragged out of the car.
It will also allow you to use your brakes as a devastating weapon. Even at 20-30 mph, you can neutralize 3 attackers quickly doing nothing more than slamming on the brakes. And I mean pedal to the metal.
If some is in the front passenger seat, they are getting a face full of windshield. Back seat passenger’s faces will meet the headrests.
If Uber can do anything to improve our safety it would be to foolproof the passenger data system and be more proactive in assisting law enforcement to make it easier for police to identify and arrest those who try to prey on drivers. Word travels fast in thug land. If people were consistently tracked down and prosecuted, attacks would stop.
Always remember, no one is coming. It’s up to us.

Totally agree with Sergio in trying to get legislature attention. But that also will take actions on driver actions like collectively agree to support online protest. Also the ones with online platforms like YT, have to consistently talk about it, educate the hesitant folks. This fight has to happen and should involve all drivers. Protest one day a month. 2024 should be the year of change and drivers have to contribute to the effort. Please mention the protest everyday on your platform. Drivers can do this. Drivers do have power but drivers have to believe this. If you get this petition going, this can be a great start. Let’s get this started. If this movement gains momentum, there’s no telling the things that can be accomplished as a unit. Drivers can also influence legislation. This is a movement that needs to get started. Now.

It's true they are SCARED, many of change itself! some are afraid we want to only unionize and fight for hourly... it's like um no, we just dont want to be told we're IC's while someone else decides and changes our pay at will and constantly----pay which happens to earn us below the federal min after operating costs----ridiculous. It wasn't like this in the beginning and unions weren't needed. At the same time, others say only unions can guarantee the demands people are requesting. What I say is people need to grow a pair, wake up and realize we don't need a middle man. if we are INDEPENDENT contractors, we can act like such and stand for ourselves and each other in solidarity....as strong, competent, working adults.

But Looking at the long game I believe that a focus on an official change management process with gig companies that requires a signoff by a duly elected group of driver representatives would be something more worthy of striking for, as opposed to some short term financial gain or assistance because they are constantly changing the rules of the game unilaterally and often with little notice or buy in with the driver community. The companies are constantly throwing things at a wall to see what sticks. Well we need referees to lay down the rules on which walls are allowed

Driving 5+ years for both companies, I had this realization recently, I have never seen a CEO (Dara) of a major corporation to turn his back on a key component of the rideshare experience. A lot of drivers made financial decisions based on their history of paying well, keeping the number of drivers at a reasonable level so those of us with 5+ years aren’t struggling, not meeting our financial obligations and maintaining our vehicles so they are safe.

He is an absolute tool for this. Like you say, they have a brand but the actual deliverer of the experience, whether a ride or food, is the independent driver carrying their banner. No, we are not employees, but YES THERE NEEDS TO BE A HARD CAP ON A COMMISSION. A commission is a minute (usually 5% and no more than 10%) of the top line. As CEO he needs to figure out how to run the ops on that budget. And if need be charge the customer a bit more but there would be plenty of money both for the now (under this theory) happier driver who will PROUDLY AND SAFELY do his job... and for the company and its shareholders.
In contrast, the current NIGHTMARE has them literally taking upwards or 75% of the top line for themselves..a never ending game of AI, machine learning, algorithms to take every last penny they can..getting the customer-driver match accomplished whilst taking as much of the fare as they possibly can while still having that ride happen.
It is ludicrous. The same biden admin that goes after banks for onerous fees on your checking accts...and other fees, is MUM about this. Friends in high places for their lobbying. ..and their ultimate owners, Blackrock, state street, vanguard, etc. Are playing along and want the stock to march up. But a tripling of their stock price only on the backs of millions of individual drivers' earnings getting CUT in just the years when all other prices of life are going up!! (Including the price of the uber/lyft ride) is out of control!!! This is an app and needs to take a capped fee. Always capped. It blows my mind this is allowed. Some intrepid dept of labor type or a savvy politician in the democratic party needs to make this their mantle at the national level and they wld garner lots of votes.

I've scene many strikes in my 7 yrs of rideshare but they are always for like one day. Has there ever been the thought to strike one company at a time but for like a month. This way the drivers continue to make money but I think it would have bigger effect on the companies bottom line. Pepsi and Coke are two separate companies so are Uber and Lyft but we seem to treat them as one.

Would be nice to see the Apps give total control to the passengers allowing them to communicate with us through the app to set up "private" rides all "legal" and we can let the passengers decide who they want to ride with all the time based on availability and distance to pick up. Then instead of losing money during strikes, drivers will make way more money per trip and the Rideshare companies lose 100% of their take.
What is needed. 1) single day insurance. 2) Digital sign: On strike Cash Only 3) use Uber Lyft driver’s background check as proof of background check…etc, etc.

The question of how much the rider paid should happen halfway into the ride. This allows for a dynamic conversation. When I’m asked, “Is Uber keeping you busy?” My response, “Being busy is relative. With these companies taking a larger portion of what you’re paying. How much were you charged for this ride?” Then this starts a legit conversation about take rates, how they’re ripping them (the rider) off and how they are surging them but not passing the increase to us…

This is why they won't do upfront pricing here in NY. Drivers would storm these offices and create huge waves. What we need is a newer more honest gig company to break through and shake things up. Drivers, ask all your riders this simple question: "Btw, if you don't mind me asking, how much is uber/lyft charging you for this ride?"
It opens the conversation. Educating riders is all upside for drivers. The simple fact that uber/lyft hide the rider paid amount from the driver surprises most riders.
