  • Cuba's government wants to revive the tourism sector with glossy new hotels.
    But families in the capital are living in ageing, dilapidated buildings.
    Inflation, the US blockade and mismanagement of the economy mean many people are forced to choose between having food on the table or a roof over their heads.

      keep in mind that there are no homeless people in Cuba , everyone has a house , its not perfect but its better than living on the road , people also have access to free healthcare and free bus and train transit and gasoline is almost free , overall Havana is still ranked one of the greatest cities in the world , just like Tokyo or Moscow or Chicago or LA or Berlin

      As a Cuban look at the Cuban constitution look up the penal code anything a Cuban citizen does to better his life gets him 10 to 25 years in prison . It’s not the USA embargo that’s killing us it’s the communist embargo on us that’s killing us . Yes I’m a Cuban

    I'm sure the tourists wanted to see the historic buildings of Old Havana. They should have put a priority on restoring those neibourhoods.

Other socialist countries dont even try to aid Cuba, because its a waste of money, so the regime should either change or remain being just the cheap supply of agricultural products and rum for Europe.
      I mean look at the houses of the communist leaders there. Cubas situation is only so bad, because as always the communist elite ironically exploits the working class.

There are enough countries and businesses who arent affected by the embargo, but unfortunately they dont sell anything under market price, so the communist elite has to choose between their golden steaks or a acceptable life for the working class, but yeah golden steaks seem to be very seductive.

    1:21 when I lived in Cuba there was a section of the balcony we couldn’t go on because it was crumbling and at any moment anyone standing in that area of the belcony could fall and die. Unfortunately someone did die and it was never fixed. It’s still getting worse to this day! And there are people who live there 😢

      @@infinitesoul8941 you can't demolish heritage homes , many of the buildings are heritage buildings so they take a long time to repair , its not as easy as it looks , repairing a heritage home from the 1940's is not easy , it takes a lot of money and time , a lot of the heritage buildings have been converted into 5 star hotels so it takes time but there has been progress

      Nov 2022. 185 member states sign on to UN resolution to end the US economic embargo of Cuba. Two countries abstain, Ukraine and Brazil. Two countries vote no, Israel and the United States.

      The socialism system is the really culprit of the cuban situation, the economy does not run properly in a socialist country, it doesn't provides the right incentives to companies or workers, most of the cuban workforce is state employed and the salaries are really low, less than 40 dollars/month, they need to steal in order to meet their basic needs, mainly food that's scarce right now.... that's the truth.... greetings from Havana pal.

      Man you spent 7,8 years in one of the medical universities in Cuba (Sancti Spiritus, Cienfuegos or Villa Clara), yet you are unaware of the real problem. Yes it's true that US embargo is one of the reasons but the major factor is the stubbornness of the successors of Fidel Castro.
      Isn't it hilarious to watch them renovate the government buildings and hotels but don't provide any assistance to the grief-stricken public.     If you want to truly help the Cuban people, go to Cuba, support the local businesses and help the average Cuban with things like toothpaste, soap, aspirin and a few USD. You should stay at a AirBnd which are owned by Cuban people, not the government.
    Havana is a very safe and beautiful place and as an American you will be treated as family.

    Cuba is one of a few extant Marxist-Leninist one-party socialist states, in which the role of the vanguard Communist Party is enshrined in the Constitution. Cuba has an authoritarian regime where political opposition is not permitted.
    I wonder if that has anything to do with their progress

      Since the USSR isn't aiding their system anymore, they slowly fall apart. Many people blame the US, but it isn't the USAs fault, that Cuba cant compete on the world market. Cubas biggest trading partner is the EU and its neighbours, socialist states like China dont do anything, because Cuba isn't profitable for them.
      In the end their former colonial master Spain is doing more for Cuba than communist countries, they are their largest partner after all.

      It's not the embargo that should be blame, it's the Cuban government failed system and policies that should be blame. Cuba trades with all countries on earth, including the USA, for the last 30 years the Cuban government has been buying the food it needs, cereals, vegetables, fruits, meats, poultry, etc., to supply their all-inclusive hotels chains on the Island from the US.

    Cuba has the highest doctors-to-population ratio. I think it's a good idea to turn those new hotel buildings into medical tourism buildings and start from there. Imagine the number of Americans who are going to avail of such cheap medical treatment.

      A large majority of Cuban doctors dont even know how to read an X-ray for a broken bone .

      @@infinitesoul8941 most doctors have been taught by philosophers not actual medical doctors over 75% that come to America can’t continue their practice in America because of their lack of experience. My cousins husband was a doctor in Cuba they immigrated to America he had to work at Winn Dixie to support his family he’s now in the trucking business. There are doctors who worked in strictly communist hospitals who are more experienced than their counterparts.

      In 1959, Cuba was the most advanced country in Latin America, today, today, even Haiti is better off. The very few Cubans who can afford it, travel to Haiti to buy clothes, shoes, meds, etc. What does that tell you about the situation?
