Hey Cars and Zebras! Michigan native here, grew up in Pontiac not too far from Woodward Ave. where my dad would always race his firebirds! He had a 1968 firebird 400 black with a hood cut out for a working white trans am air cleaner he added later on. Had a 4 speed Muncie transmission and 4/11 posi. trac. I miss that car, he sold it when we moved to California along with his 69 350 champagne metallic and 73 Formula 350 metallic burgundy. Love your videos man please keep em coming
Awesome race zebra but I heard something pop in that cougar sounded like a rear end or transmission thanks to both car owners for bringing these classic automobiles hope it wasn’t too serious.
Another great Video, in my community a neighbor had a 71 Pontiac LeMans , Custom with the 455, he would not race my Car a 1970 Buick GS 455 Stage 1 Drop top 4 Speed as the king of Torque lives under the hood. Please keep the great Videos coming.
Both cars are awesome a rare excellent example of mercury muscle and a ram air goat complete with audible quadrajet roar from the secondaries ( insert Homer Simpson drool sequence) great video cnz
That’s some TIGHT racing! Both great cars and great engines, that were underrated for HP from the factory. Thanks to the drivers and you for the great content. ~ Chuck 🌮 🌮
I had both a '65 and a '66 Goat. 389's in both. Put a tri-power on the '66 and had a lot of fun with it back in the 1970's. That said, with the GTO a little sluggish out of the gate, but with great finishing ability... I fully expected the Cougar to take all 3 runs. MUST have been an issue with it. Thanks. I enjoyed the trip into the past.
Buddy of mines uncle had an orange and black Eliminator. It was somewhat of a legend around the small town we lived in. I had a 67 Fairlane GT i hotrodded around with during high school and a couple years after.. He always talked down to me like my car was slow but his was blown up for years and he finally sold it so we never raced. I guess that means I WIN! However i would have loved to have had his car. I always thought it was beautiful and rare.
The Pontiac gave up 28 cubic inches and weighed 205 pounds more and it still covered the Ford by a couple of MPH. A true apples to apples comparison would have been a Ram Air 4 vs a 428 CJ but why even bother when a RA3 can get it done.
Good day C & Z, I don't mind having a GTO ( Good Time Orgasim ) with a old skool Couger every now & then especially in the 69 model. He he he 😅 Cheers Louis Kats your number 1 Fan in Australia 🙂👍🇦🇺🇺🇸
Awesome how the goat walked him down in 4th that’s a lot like how my RA III Formula 400 did a buddy’s 79 TA with stock LS1 and aod trans. I had 3.42 gears and he had 3.27 I think it was it was less gear then me may be 3.23. His trans had a much lower 1st gear than my TH 400 so that made up for the gear and then some. We had identical 60’ times but as we shifted 2nd I passed him where he got me out of the hole by half a then tenth or three quarters of a tenth but it was half a car either way. Then it got sorta even through 2nd where the LS1 sweet spot seemed to be but when we shifted drive I walked slowly away. I did 13.50@104 and he did 13.76@102 It’s a neat race for comparison sake Pontiac 400 vs LS1 in pretty much the same cars same day same run. Keep in mind if you watch my video my formula is indeed a 1971 if you look at the fenders you will see the luvers but it has #48 heads and 068 cam. That combination works well. It will fly past 5k rpm to 6k quicker than my 94Z with M6 both in 1st gear. I like shifting the formula at about 5800 into 2nd and around 5200 into drive. Stretching it out further in 2nd gear slows it down by about a tenth. Hope ya had a good read and a great day guys n gals. ✌🏼
Great channel! I just subscribed! I had a ‘68 Chevelle SS with a number’s matching 396, 4-speed, with 18k ORIGINAL miles, and I wrecked it racing some other kid in a ‘69 Firebird 400. (I blew his doors off BUT, having had 11 margaritas-it was Chi Chi’s Tuesday night Margaritaville Night-I didn’t notice the kid pulling out in front of me on the busy, 6-lane divided highway, in his little 2-door Fiat.) Turned my wheel just enough to keep from broadsiding him (I was doing about 60 in 2nd gear) and I spun him right into the Firebird’s lane and all 3 of us did multiple 360’s before coming to a stop! Thankfully, nobody was hurt, and the police officer’s first words to me as he got to my window were “That’s a shame. What year is she?” (Hand to God honest truth) His FINAL words to me were “Look, I know you’re drunk as a fish so if you don’t argue with me about getting it towed, I will drop you off and we’ll call it a night. I figure you’ve been punished enough.” (This was 1984) Last time I EVER drove with ANY alcohol in my system. 😂 I guess it’s a lesson hard-learned but I miss that car to this day. I paid 3500.00 bucks for it and it even came with a completely perfect 1970 454 motor that had been “upgraded” with a Holley carb and was “rated” at 450 HP and 500 pound-feet of torque. I believe if I’d have done what all my buddies told me to do-garage it-it might be worth more than my 3500 dollar initial investment? 🤷🏻🦧🥹
My neighbor had a 67 Cougar blue with blue metallic interior 289 . I use to love that car & I am a Pontiac man but that car was beautiful I love the 289.
Battle of the Hide Aways !! My brother had a 68 GTO 400, RamAir II, Hurst Dule Gate(his & hers)shifter. Mayfair Maize(like a pale yellow) black vinyl top. It was a Beautiful car !! Now that 366hp for the GTO's was easily upped to over 400 with a couple carb & timing tricks!! It was an 12sec car on stickers !! PMDTTF !! 🇺🇸🏁🇺🇸
Both car's are sweet ride's, thanks to the owners that raced them 👍 up to both of you, it's a lot of work getting everything ready to race, and thanks for the video CZ
THESE CARS WERE VERY EVENLY MATCHED .... BOTH ARE DESIRABLE .... ALWAYS THOUGHT THOSE COUGARS WERE OVERLOOKED TOO MUCH .... DECENT TIMES ... GOOD SHOWING
Gonna have to send this one to my dad, he's a Ford guy and I'm a Pontiac guy, and we have these same engines although both 4 speed cars. 1969 Mustang fastback and 1971 Firebird (engine is swapped, was originally a 350 car)
If you could pull to redline in 3rd you would be doing 160 mph or so. With low compression guessing you would push 140 though and not hit redline..? Just a guess.
I love 60's cars. However, my daily driver is a 4 door 2018 Buick Regal Sportback 2.0 L Turbo (preferred II trim / Canadian base trim ) making only 250 advertised HP. I ran the 1/4 mile exactly the way I brought it home brand new from the dealer and twice it ran 14.3 @ 96 mph. Crazy how good our new cars are nowadays.
That was a tight match till the end, thanks for sharing... With those specs so close I figured it might come down to driver error or mechanical failure, any chance we can get a follow up on the Cougar?
Another great video. Cougars are great. The GTO was good too😂 if you left out the funny parts it might sound like that teacher in ferris buelers day off.
I remember the days where I felt that anything beyond a 10 second run was boring and not worth watching. Must be getting older because I really appreciate seeing these cars run...sometimes more than the sub 10 second runs.
Cars and zebras... !!! You son of a bitch...!!! You did it again... !!! Very informative and humorous as always... The haters and trolls can find another channel..
so the car with the lower number at the top of the timer at the finish line is the winner? I've never been to one of these before and i have getting a little confused because sometimes the car that passes the finish line second has been called the winner?
The 428 Cobra Jet is probably the best Ford performance engine of the 60s but that's not saying much compared to its competitors like the Chrysler 426 Hemi 440 six pack 427 and 454 Chevys and 455 engines from Buick and Oldsmobile. Even this base Ram Air 3 Pontiac 400 gave it a tough time. If it was a Pontiac Ram Air 4 version this wouldn't be a close race at all. Yeah Fords of the classic muscle car era never really impressed me that much.
If you think the 428 CJ was Fords Best Performance Engine from the Muscle Car era, you obviously have no clue about Fords, does the 427 SOHC ring a bell ? Boss 351,s Boss 429,s along with the 429 SCJ Drag Pack cars, C'mon man the 428 CJ was a Good Street Engine, no were near Fords Best.
That GTO was most definitely having trouble getting off the line, for whatever reason? More than likely it was driver error, or lack of experience. But had he been able to get off the line like the Cougar did, it wouldn't have been close at all, because the GTO was playing catch-up every round and coming on strong at the end each time. Those mid 1960's thru 1971' Muscle Cars were the best era ever! We'd drive them to school each day, and then race them at night.
I had a 67 Cougar in my late teens. Thank God it only had the 289. If it had the 428 I probably wouldn't be alive today.
These cars were very evenly matched.
Pontiac also had a 428 in '69, and if GM had allowed it in GTO's, the Cougar would have gotten shagged.
Love them cougars both kinds.
Who doesn’t
Brandi Love with a 'hot biscuit' in the kitchen! yowza :)
The subliminal Cougar was a nice touch, and making you a sandwich, priceless.

Love the intro, and all the cougars out there!

"Cougars:They don't swell, they don't tell, and they're horny as hell"- William Shakespeare
I'm a GM guy but those Ford 428 CJs are no joke. I went with the Cougar this time. 😋
i love your show
Awesome matchup! I enjoyed every second of it as usual.
Silly Cougar, she just couldnt take being ram-aired by that Poncho power ✌💖☮
I had both a '65 and a '66 Goat. 389's in both. Put a tri-power on the '66 and had a lot of fun with it back in the 1970's.

Thanks. I enjoyed the trip into the past.
These are both nice cars. Thanks to the owners for letting us watch them run and to CZ for the video.
Thanks for watching!
L⁶
That goat knew when to pull out right at the end!!
Thought the cougar had the first race, but the goat has strong pull out game. The cougar didn't see it coming
Awesome , Thanks C&Z 😊
Whatever you do, don't let up with the crazy talk! Don't give up your stripes!🦓

If my cat ran 14.21 I'd shave its ass and make it walk backwards.
Gotta Love a Blue Cougar.
Gotta love these beautifully styled high performance vehicles
I like the narrated version of CARS AND ZEBRAS far more.
The Pontiac gave up 28 cubic inches and weighed 205 pounds more and it still covered the Ford by a couple of MPH. A true apples to apples comparison would have been a Ram Air 4 vs a 428 CJ but why even bother when a RA3 can get it done.
Cool video C&Z! like the top and bottom comments too! 👙🩲🤣
I like Cougars. That kind too.
Great racing.
Amazing race and I can't believe how close it was but i miss your videos and humor and keep up the amazing work too
Good day C & Z,
I don't mind having a GTO
( Good Time Orgasim ) with a old skool Couger every now & then especially in the 69 model.
He he he 😅
Cheers

Cougars are very underrated…..so are Mercurys…!
DUH Cougers are Mercury's! Fords were Underrated TOO ! And Mercury's are Fords !"LOL !
Wow I have to admit that cougar really sweet. I love the GTO 400 and a 4speed awesome. 👊👍
realizing its a rare car, love to see the cougar have aluminum heads and intake.
I came here for the cars but stayed for the crude jokes!
The cars are nice but I'm just here for the farts! 😤
Brandi Love 😮. I’m glad your back uploading content. Even my 10YO son laughs his ass off at your videos.
If you’d increase the crazy talk you’d have a great channel
Awesome how the goat walked him down in 4th that’s a lot like how my RA III Formula 400 did a buddy’s 79 TA with stock LS1 and aod trans. With such a name like this I was waiting for much more from this cougar! Nice race no more .
This video reminded me that I was conceived in the back of a 64 GTO, and I wouldn’t have it any other way
Back of a 69' no pun intended
Great channel! I just subscribed! I had a ‘68 Chevelle SS with a number’s matching 396, 4-speed, with 18k ORIGINAL miles, and I wrecked it racing some other kid in a ‘69 Firebird 400. Wow, real street cars doing real street times. How refreshing. Nice cars, thanks for the ride -
My neighbor had a 67 Cougar blue with blue metallic interior 289 . I use to love that car & I am a Pontiac man but that car was beautiful I love the 289.
The transmission popped. Only reason why the GTO won. Was a great Race though. Both are amazing vehicles.
It popped alright, as that GTO put it's Ram Air stick in that Cougar.
Awesome races, with typical ETs from back in the day as well.👍
Was hoping the Cougar would take it all. Man that second race talk about close!! So cool though thanks... great episode!
Battle of the Hide Aways !! My brother had a 68 GTO 400, RamAir II, Hurst Dule Gate(his & hers)shifter. Mayfair Maize(like a pale yellow) black vinyl top. It was a Beautiful car !! 🇺🇸🏁🇺🇸
If you take flowmax and meet a blond cougar you could blow a gasket and never finish the third race.
This makes me miss my ‘69 Cougar XR7 done up with Eliminator mods. It had 54K miles on it when I bought it in ‘93.
Both car's are sweet ride's, thanks to the owners that raced them 👍 up to both of you, it's a lot of work getting everything ready to race, and thanks for the video CZ
Looks like a MI born Cougar in the background.
The funniest one yet....
THESE CARS WERE VERY EVENLY MATCHED .... BOTH ARE DESIRABLE .... ALWAYS THOUGHT THOSE COUGARS WERE OVERLOOKED TOO MUCH .... DECENT TIMES ... GOOD SHOWING
Hilarious!…Awesome cars!…Thank you sir!!
Man, it don't get much better than that
Gonna have to send this one to my dad, he's a Ford guy and I'm a Pontiac guy, and we have these same engines although both 4 speed cars. 1969 Mustang fastback and 1971 Firebird (engine is swapped, was originally a 350 car)
What a coincidence! I actually had a '74 Cougar XR-7 for travel! And just before owning it, a '66 cougar for fun!
I had 2.41 posi gears in my 455 T/A. I used to call them Nascar gears back in the day, when I walked away at 130mph from the 90's cars...
If you could pull to redline in 3rd you would be doing 160 mph or so. With low compression guessing you would push 140 though and not hit redline..? Just a guess.
That Cougars Found On Road Dead parts kept it from the overall win!!
Was some of your closest racing.
I always appreciate a nice Cougar. Why go to college when you can get yourself one of them.
Popa's got a brand new bag!
Zeroboostbuick your car will never be as cool as the Pontiac GTO or Mercury Cougar. 😁
Cars, Zebras and Brandi Love. Anyone else recognize her?
Great vid! Sad that the Gar pooped out.
Both amazing cars especially that Cougar. Love to see a Cougar 428 SCJ versus a Goat Ram Air 4.
That was a tight match till the end, thanks for sharing... With those specs so close I figured it might come down to driver error or mechanical failure, any chance we can get a follow up on the Cougar?
A bit surprised the goat could out run the CJ on the top end
Another great video. Cougars are great. The GTO was good too😂 if you left out the funny parts it might sound like that teacher in ferris buelers day off.
Brandi Love, good choice❤
I remember the days where I felt that anything beyond a 10 second run was boring and not worth watching. Must be getting older because I really appreciate seeing these cars run...sometimes more than the sub 10 second runs.
That cougar was hot, but choked on something midway through. Unacceptable!
Cars and zebras... !!! You son of a bitch...!!! You did it again... !!! Very informative and humorous as always... The haters and trolls can find another channel..
Awesome video 2thumbs up....
I'd love to see more FoMoCo wins on CnZ, but sheesh, they don;t win. WTF?? More cubes. Less pounds? Caramba!!
The last run I'm sure was expensive for the Cougar, hope it wasn't too serious damages done.
Too bad this channel has gone dark, I really liked the content...
You would love to drive a RAM Air to the Ram Ranch.
so the car with the lower number at the top of the timer at the finish line is the winner? I've never been to one of these before and i have getting a little confused because sometimes the car that passes the finish line second has been called the winner?
Goats lay down really good, just ask farmer Brown 😂😂😂
Bro you are hysterical and that olds should smoke the chevy
Did this channel end?
Excellent cars - I hope whatever failed on the Cougar wasn't serious.
Who else wanted to see the Cougar get Ram by a Pointy D... I mean Pontiac.
I love Brandy Love too!!!
Correction Brandi
The best thing about being a Mercury salesman is getting into a cougar
Still waiting on a crude joke laden video about zebras......
Where do you go? Maybe we don’t want to know😂 My son and I really like your videos and your humor😮 keep em cummin👍
Wow, that racing was tighter than Dicks hat band too bad the Cougar had to shut it down. Any idea what broke?
The 428 Cobra Jet is probably the best Ford performance engine of the 60s but that's not saying much compared to its competitors like the Chrysler 426 Hemi 440 six pack 427 and 454 Chevys and 455 engines from Buick and Oldsmobile. How many noticed no vacuum hose on the Cougar's dustributor advance?
I love it
Wonder what the hp is at 6000 rpm
Ford - living up to it's acronym
👍
👍
If the GTO was automatic do you think would have done better?
That GTO was most definitely having trouble getting off the line, for whatever reason? More than likely it was driver error, or lack of experience. Awesome, what do I get for winning the bottom comment?
dang
