There were 720 men fighting in few bunkers trying to stop whole german panzer corp - about 40.000 of men and 500 tanks. Impossible mission, but Raginis swear that he will defend his position or die defending it. After three days of fighting all the bunkers fall and there was only the command bunker which was still fighting. Almost all defenders were dead. Cpt Raginis was heavily wounded. Germans were furious that they cannot brake polish resistance send an emissary, with demand that remaining soldiers should give up in an hour or they will shot all captured polish soldiers. Then Cpt Raginis ordered soldiers who was with him in bunker to come out and give up. He stay in bunker alone and kill himself with hand granade. From the 720 polish soldiers defending Wizna germans took about 70 prisoners, rest of the defenders died in battle.

I was lucky to know personally one of the defenders of Westerplatte in September 1939, who was my cousin's grandfather. A wonderful warm man - a real hero, who was taken prisoner by the Germans after the capture of Westerplatte. He managed to escape from a German camp disguised as a woman and returned to his family in 1945. He died in 1999. Honor and glory to the heroes !!!

Need to know that SABATON writes songs about many forgotten or not taught in classroom battles, warriors, wars regardless their conflict site- good or bad (from public opinion and history perspective). Along with the great music comes a history lesson. When other bands focus on describing emotions, life philosophy, personal tragedies, SABATON created a niche to remember each men and women around the world and through cards of history, who give their lives, so we could live now in subjectively peaceful times. They break the bias that metal is satanic and brutal and pure evil. For example, they have visited the Wizna city in Poland, where this battle from "40:1" took place and met with the grandson of Wizna's defense commander kpt. Raginis. In Poland is one of the biggest if not the nr 1 fanbase of SABATON, thanks to the songs they wrote about Poland history. We are very proud nation and really like when outsiders know our history and praise our successes and victories. Advice- if you want to earn some points when visiting PL or hanging out with poles, learn a bit of history of place you're going to visit or know some polish artists, songs, movies. Despite such a huge numerical advantage, Polish soldiers resisted the Germans from September 7 to 10, 1939.

Thank You for this video. Great respect to Poland - Thank You for that! The meaning of this videos was 40:1 in number of soldiers, but it's only one aspect. The German army was much more better equipmented and future machines assigned. Moreover they have ruled in sky, so the aircraft and on sea.

40:1 means that 1 polish soldier had to fight with 40 german soldiers because in the battle of Wizna 1000 polish soldiers were defending the town for three days against 40000 german soldiers. If we look at it from the math side 40000 / 1000 = 40 so here we have 40 : 1
40:1 means the for 1 polish soldier fighting with 40 germans :)
Bc in first atack we hav only 1 soldier for 40 enemy but we still maintain a long time for warning rest of country.

I won't be repeating others corrections- meaning of 40:1, SABATON origin country. I'd like to point that this is a pure reaction video- you didn't background check that song or it's context- relying only on others recommendations- that's good, fair and honest. Now, since you familiarized with this song and comments You should dig a bit deeper in WW2 history of Poland if You want know more about it. Need to know that SABATON writes songs about many forgotten or not taught in classroom battles, warriors, wars regardless their conflict site- good or bad (from public opinion and history perspective). Along with the great music comes a history lesson. When other bands focus on describing emotions, life philosophy, personal tragedies, SABATON created a niche to remember each men and women around the world and through cards of history, who give their lives, so we could live now in subjectively peaceful times. They break the bias that metal is satanic and brutal and pure evil. For example, they have visited the Wizna city in Poland, where this battle from "40:1" took place and met with the grandson of Wizna's defense commander kpt. Raginis. In Poland is one of the biggest if not the nr 1 fanbase of SABATON, thanks to the songs they wrote about Poland history. We are very proud nation and really like when outsiders know our history and praise our successes and victories.
Advice- if you want to earn some points when visiting PL or hanging out with poles, learn a bit of history of place you're going to visit or know some polish artists, songs, movies. We dislike ignorants but love foreigners who put a little effort to learn something bout our culture or history (preferably both :P)

In addition, the Germans had: 450 tanks and armored guns, 274 guns and mortars and 195 anti-tank guns, while the Polish soldiers had: 6 75 mm guns and 24 light machine guns, 18 light machine guns and 2 anti-tank guns. Despite such a huge numerical advantage, Polish soldiers resisted the Germans from September 7 to 10, 1939.
