Awesome concept. I've been trying to learn the boxes lately but feel like I'm pretty much playing the same stuff in different places. This really opens things up more
Hi Robert... new subscriber, love your videos. You're a great teacher. Do you have a video that goes over the basics (amp settings, effects, etc) of how you get your sound? Of course, all your gear is way better than mine, but I'd be happy with a rough approximation of the sound you get in this video.
That would be great, even just a few quick minutes on the settings you like at the beginning of a video. The sound you tend to use in the videos that I've watched so far is a great balance for someone learning. You can hear what you're doing very clearly, but it's still got a great tone. I've tried to emulate it as best I can with my tiny practice setup (Mobile POD app/Sonic Port), but it's not quite there.
Robert: thanx for sharing this cool lesson...Reminds me of a Ted Nugent interview in Guitar Player magazine many years ago - The interviewer asked: Why do you use your pinky so much while so many great players do not? Ted replied: "got that baby there, might as well put it to work for me"...I took that to heart & I'm very glad I did... much peace
This is crazy man, I had the exact same moment you are talking about in this video! I remember figuring out, literally, to the note...Lick #2 in my room! I was trying to expand my pentatonic so I mapped out all the octaves, stretched the scale out, and I came up with that exact lick! hahaha amazing lesson man! This sure as hell would have saved me ALOT of time, excellent lesson for players who haven't done this yet! Like you said, for me it was a big light bulb moment. Where I then started to do this with ever scale I could think of and it dramatically changed my playing style. I started to take the stretched out pentatonic and sweep it to make it even more awesome. Doing six string sweeps, alternating 1 note per string and then 2 notes per string. So.....the 6th string had one note, 5th had 2, 4th has 1, 3rd has 2, 2nd has 1, 1st has two. And you do the two notes sections with a hammer on to make it fast and sweep-able. Maybe do a lesson on something like that for advanced pentatonic uses!
When I open this video '' Eerr not another pentatonic video'' My reaction :'' Dude this is acutally a genius way to approach scales to overcome the gap bewtween shapes!''
Hey Luis, that guitar is bad-azzed! I'd love to have one, the way it's built and the stuff they do to it. That is one amazing guitar from a forward thinking company. You may think it looks a bit crude, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but you sure should take a look at their website and see what is inside that guitar...
Really like your teaching style. Very easy to follow and entertaining. Makes it easy to learn.
thanks so much
1:08 Lick #1 (blending boxes 5 and 1. Three note sequences)
3:44 Lick #2 (Same boxes, with 3 notes per string)
6:26 Lick #3 (blending boxes 1 and 2. Four notes sequences)

They are in fact secret pentatonic gym exercises. Once mastered you can fight Chuck Norris with your fingers and survive! Cheers!
