Moved my family to the Upper Peninsula 3yrs ago. Northern Michigan sounds nice. Drove straight through it. Da U.P. Is like no other. It’s another world up here.

We love it up there. Headed to Camp Paradise on the Tahquamenon River. So peaceful and quiet.

Harbor Springs native here. It's my favorite "northern" Michigan town too 😊. My mother's family goes back almost 200 years in the area long before it was incorporated. I have lived in the U.P. as well, so I view it more accurately as being northwest lower Michigan not just simply northern Michigan.

Lower Michigan has a lot of extremely beautiful places, but I wouldn't trade living in the UP for anything.

The UP is amazing. As Northern Lower MI gets more crowded the UP definitely becomes more appealing. In particular, I find myself at a place on the Tahquamenon River each summer. Unreal peace, quiet, and natural beauty.

When you are in Harbor Springs check out Bar Harbor for their cheeseburgers/fries - 100 State St, Harbor Springs, MI. It is our go to place in Harbor Springs.

Truly does depend on what you like when you go to Northern Michigan. I used to like the towns of Petoskey and Harbor Springs and Charlevoix, , but they’re all growing so much, just like Traverse City is way too big, too much commercialization and horrible traffic jams at times which frankly is miserable. When I think northern Michigan, I prefer something more rural , pristine quieter lakes and not so crowded. It seems like everybody moving into these areas are basically duplicating what they’re running away from. They are nice to visit, but I can’t stand the traffic and the crowded restaurants. I seek something more peaceful. We bought a place on a beautiful 100 acre clean lake near Lewiston Michigan and just love it, much quieter ,all the convenience we need but it’s certainly not overrun with commercialization. And the real estate is much more affordable.

@@livinginnorthernmichigan thank you, I agree totally actually those are the times or in early June ( winter also) that we drive over from our place in Lewiston, to go there because we do love those areas. They’re so beautiful and it’s just so much quieter and enjoyable.

@@livinginnorthernmichigan When I went to collage at WMU almost all of the Michigan students did not know the Upper Peninsula is part of Michigan. Interview some people in the southern most part of the state and ask them what is on the other side of the big mac. Everyone in Wisconsin knows the U P is Michigan.

You are true trolls, you are not up north until you cross the Big Mac bridge. Until you get to Mackinaw City you still are in Mid-dle Michigan. St. Ignace, Sault Ste. Marie and Newberry are my three favorite places to visit.

I wouldn't put any of those towns in my top ten, and I've been to them all many times, when I worked in the area. I guess if you are from Traverse City and don't want to drive too far, they are nice enough.
Those town are Convenient and that's what really makes them "Nice" for people who live in the area, they aren't really NICE enough to visit, not if you live anywhere else in the North, because there will be nicer places closer to you that are not nearly so overcrowded.
This must be a list for people who don't want to drive far from Traverse City and who don't mind a lot of traffic and crowds.
