Subscribed. Sorely underrepresented fish on TH-cam. I love them. I *think* i have a female to pair with my standard and blue males. Hopefully i can get them interested in each other. At the moment they seem more interested in striking at her. I tried introducing by having her protected in a bag, so she was safe from the striking. Alex over at Fishtory used this method in one of his videos from a few years ago. The temperature in the tanks they're in is about 22°C (72°F). Would you say increasing the temperature to that 78/79°F range is a key factor in getting them in the breeding mood? I've also heard decreasing the water level (distance from surface to substrate) can help encourage breeding as well.
Hey Toothpik! Thanks so much for the sub! I started with a male and two females. Two of them paired up and then picked on the third wheel until she died. I had no problem getting the pair to spawn in a 75 gal tank. I know, probably over kill but I think the space helped them. The male still chases the female around. Temp wise I think the sweet spot is between 74-80. That is when mine spawned so I think raising the temp a bit would help. Good luck with them and thanks again for the support!
Great video on them 👏
Thanks so much Steve!
How neat!! Hopefully you have a high success rate with the fry!
Thank you! So far they are really growing well. I have a ton of them, but I’m sure I can get them to other local hobbyists and stores.
