How To Play Sleepwalk On Guitar | Santo & Johnny Guitar Lesson + Tutorial
In today's guitar lesson we are going to learn how to play the chord changes to "Sleepwalk" by Santo & Johnny.
These chords are the foundation for one of the most hypnotic sounding rock melodies of all-time.
I'll be counting this out in a 6/8 time signature, and for the majority of the song each chord will be lasting 6 beats. The strumming pattern uses 8th notes with a slight accent on beats 1 and 4. The original recording is in the key of C and the main chord progression goes C, Am, Fm, and G7. One thing worth noting is the use of the Fm chord, this is what I call a minor iv chord, it's a sound and a chord movement that the Beatles used quite often as well. I'll break it all down for you in today's featured guitar lesson.

Hi Jon, fantastic as always! Was wondering about your fingering for Am chord. Never seen it done that way, was wondering reason for that fingering. Also, agree, a melody lesson would be very nice! Thanks for what you are doing. You are a tremendous teacher!!

Thanks Neal! So glad you are getting value out of the lessons. I play a lot of unconventional guitar fingerings. My Am is a normal Am chord I just take my middle finger and cover the 4th and 3rd strings on the second fret. It's in the middle of the strings and getting both notes, it may seem weird at first but once you get used to it, it's very valuable to your playing.
