    6:50 you need all six pins of the DPDT switch for a series/parallel switch. It's not possible to do two humbuckers series/parallel on one pot. (Well, technically it is, but you'd have both humbuckers on the hot lead simultaneously, so your 3way selector switch becomes useless).
    Single coil switching, on the other hand, takes only one side of the DPDT / three pins to work, so you can split two humbuckers (and have your 3way toggle working still)

      You're absolutely right about the DPDT switch and series / parallel wiring. Thanks for the comment, let me pin it so that people don't oversee it. 🙌 Cheers //Kris

      I confirm that you can split the 2 pickups with one Pod. My LTD viper do it

    A note on microfiber - use it with caution! I was removing a sticker from a Strat (plastic) pickguard, and ended up "micro-scratching" the surface... :( I think I was too much of a microfiber believer, and worked too hard with the cloth on the surface... And perhaps there are better/worse cloths as well? (I managed to make the scratches much less visible with some furniture polish. It's not doing any "sanding", it's just the oil/wax that fills the scratches.)

    • @ThomannsGuitarsBasses
      @ThomannsGuitarsBasses  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Very good point. Strong rubbing can scratch plastic. Mostly it's those little dust particles on the cloth that you don't even see. There are adhesive removers that help to get rid of stickers without hard rubbing, I highly recommend using them. Thanks for the heads up Lars! Cheers //Kris

    Hi Kris, love the tech tips vids! Helped me alot in recent times! Quick follow up question to Allen's query regarding the LP buzzing until touching the strings. I recently bought a Gibson Les Paul and noticed I have the same thing happen, but not if I use one of my other guitars (example my Ibanez with passive bareknuckle pickups, which has more output than the Gibson pups). Do you know if shielding the electronics cavity will help, or should I just leave it as is? It doesn't bother me too much really, just curious why some guitars buzz like this and others don't.

    That is great Kris! Do we have a video about general wiring schematics? I have been suffering to design a Split Coil in a DIY harley Benton Kit, as it is designed for plugging only and not soldering. When I needed to change the soldering scheme... I completely got lost. The guitar now is hanging for 3 months without solution because I am a little frustrated with the situation... (my fault of course)

      Just cut the plugs and solder the wires, no problem there and you can find all the wiring schematics ofn the WWW

    i have a few questions 1. coil-splitting/ coil tapping a high output humbucker like a Dimarzio super 3 and Stacked humbuckers like fast track 2's is there issues with muddiness, or thining out the sound, too much treble. I am thinking on adding a coil split i believe to my Charvel model 475 for not only the 2 Dimarzio fast track 2 (Neck and Middle) but For the Dimarzio Super 3 in Bridge. 2nd is based off of that is there way when you do that where the pickups do not drop in volume, I heard Dean Zelinsky has humbuckers where you can coil split and they don't drop in volume. 3 is a floyd rose tremolo better if it is made throug CNC machine cutting it out of block of steel or from a cast. I being a left handed guitarist hate that floyd rose does not offer all their models in left handed because i perfer to replace the specials, and licensed floyd rose and schallers with original floyd roses, but they don't offer seven string or 8 string, or low profile or titanium version of any of them. I was wondering on the specials is it the bridge plate or body of the tremolo i heard the floyd rose 1000 series the body/bridge plate uses the same steel as the original floyd rose but the string saddles, sustain block is what is made with a alloy. but the specials the entire floyd rose system is made with the alloy and not the steel used for the original floyd rose. why is it there is no videos on how the floyd rose tremolo systems are actually made from the ground up. in fact you don't seen any of the companies that make bridges and tremolo systems showing the process of making them but you see toons of how guitars, basses, amps, etc. are made. Even skb cases did a recent video showing how they make their cases. Also if there are grooves from the strings worn into the locking nut will that effect tuning. and how easy would it be for me to replace the schaller floyd rose left handed tremolo and locking nut on my 1990 lefty charvel model 475 guitar with an original floyd rose and locking nut.

    Hi Kris, love the videos! I need some help. I currently have a Floyd rose guitar that I’ve set up myself and made sure everything is good from intonation to bridge height.
    The current issue my guitar has is that when I play any open chord that isn’t a G, C or Am the intonation is perfect but when I play those previously mentioned chords, the High E and B strings go sharp. When I check my intonation on the 12th fret, it’s perfectly in tune so I don’t know what to do at this point. It only happens on the 2nd and 3rd fret.

    • @ThomannsGuitarsBasses
      @ThomannsGuitarsBasses  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey man, thanks a lot! Have you checked if the nut is low enough? It sounds like the strings are too high on the nut side for the first few frets.
      Check out our Ep.2 if you're not sure how to check the nut height: th-cam.com/video/Z-uxEydowio/w-d-xo.html

    With my squier cv 70s Tele thinline, there is buzz until I touch the strings and the volumeknob. Any idea, where the error might be?

      Ground cable is almost broken or broken at the Jack connectors, does that happen on both pups?
      Take look at the pots too

    • @WhereSilenceDies
      @WhereSilenceDies 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@melexdy thank you man, i was going to check the soldering when I restring. But I did not have a real idea what to look for. Pots should be alright, as they are new, but i am going to check and if needed swap the ground wires, hoping it is not the ones of the pickups.

    • @ThomannsGuitarsBasses
      @ThomannsGuitarsBasses  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@WhereSilenceDies As told in the video (first comment) that has to do something with the grounding. To a certain degree that's absolutely normal. Still, check the ground wires (solder joints, etc) and best is to grab a multimeter and check all the parts that are connected with ground wires for continuity.
      Here's an episode that might be useful: th-cam.com/video/-dnQtN3Yzso/w-d-xo.html
