Regarding air vents: Every time you open the door, you lose oxygen. Which means losing ice. Depressurizing just stows the air in tanks so it doesn't blow away when you open the door.
No kidding, first thing to do is grind all those blocks down for their parts and make a standard cockpit with which to pilot the ship. Windows, doors, lights, ramps and etc can all go.
@@dustinstanley9134 You need a bit more than that. You need the Survival Kit, O2 genny, gyros and etc. But yeah just enough of a ship to slap a drill on the front. I typically plumb it to a cargo box and find nickle so I can make a ore detector. Plumb the standard cockpit too and you wont have to worry about carrying o2 tanks and refilling them.
You have 3 forward Ion engines and 2 upward ions, grind down one of each and you now have the parts to make a drill straight away... you can replace those two engines later on. Grind down the air vent and the doors (i consider them a useless distraction), you are in a space suit so use that to help conserve your air. Ice asteroid is the best base. 🙂
You and those doors. Do yourself a favor if you are watching this and strip that ship of the doors, air vent, windows and the decorative blocks first. There is a lot of components in them. Move the Survival kit and you can break down the conveyor block and tube for even more components. Then build a regular cockpit atop a inventory port so you can sit in it and get air. Also, things like the o2 genny are 1st order progression so grind it down past the hack mark and weld it back up again and unlock those blocks.
The Never Surrender scenario has been broken for over a year now, the drones will spawn in but half of them will just sit there and not move in. This means you have to go to them to destroy them which will bug out the wave respawn mechanic and nothing else will respawn because it thinks the other ships are still there. You get to about wave 12 before it just stops and Keen has been aware of this since Warfare 1 but can't be bothered to fix it because that would require them to get the person that made the original mod back in to help (Keen only knows how to do reskins...) but he refuses since Keen didn't even give him credit for it when they added it.
I tend to be grind Down the right window place a conveyor junction then a advanced rotor with a small head then a small grid drill it usually saves on steel plates
This certainly reminds me of a good few times I've rebuilt the starting Ship too! Though often I had to dock it to something with a merge block to be sure it would remain in existence.
Yeah the basic space pod is a good starter vehicle it has everything you'd need except solar panels tho those are quickly obtainable anyway But it could definitely use a straight up cockpit I find those way more reliable than control seats
I just expanded the drive section, converted to hydrogen, and added a docking limb for small grid daughter ships. Once i got set up with some resources, i extended the conveyer system, expanded the habitatable area, and then integrated an industrial / storage zone. When that was working smoothly, I finished up by wrapping it all up in light armor. Simple.
Depressurise allows you to suck out the air from a room into a tank so that you don't lose it when you open the room to space (like you did when you opened both doors at the start of the episode). On a planet with oxygen, a depressurising vent on the outside of a vehicle or building can fill oxygen tanks and pass oxygen to vents inside sealed rooms to oxygenate them, all without needing ice. This is especially useful when on planets or in areas with low oxygen levels, so that you can make sure that a room or cockpit has high oxygen levels (and/or that you have a filled oxygen tank) to allow you to refill your suit/bottles oxygen or work with keeping to need to refill with O2.
I break everything down except ions, cargo, and gyro. Then I move the respawn, built the basic assembler, and basic refinery. After all that is done I build a standing control station and a drill. Ready to go and I didn't even have to collect resources.
even that scouting resources can take a sh** ton of time i mostly like to start as a space nomad and the ship is a perfect start base to build upon. looking forward for what you do about it.
So what I do with the space pod: * Harvest about 80,000 stone and start processing it * Build the basic refinery followed by the basic assembler right on top in that order * Make about 6 solar panels and stick them on the sides * Hunt for Iron first then Magnesium, then Cobalt * Built a Gatling Gun somewhere on the ship * Build a drill (piston is a bonus) * Hunt for Ice * Build the Assemmbler and big refinery on bottom * Build a connector at the very bottom * Build an opposite (new grid) connector and join them. Start moving things and building my first large grid ship * Get one large hydrogen tank and one large cargo container in the middle * Build around that for propulsion, gryo, and at least 4 batteries * Hopefully find the Silver, Gold, Uranium, and Platinum * Get some reactors and ion thrusters + hydro * Pick somewhere in the middle of all that and build a space station
Oh, man, I just saw this first episode.. This scenario is hard. I've attempted it once, and failed miserably.. I expected the waves to attack me, but noo, they went straight for the beacon.. I hoped I can prep properly on site, but no, as you get close the waves start, barely any prep before so you need to bring what you think you'll need. I thought I get some stuff between the waves from salvage, but it was hard. There will be a lot of small ships, as you might expect.. There's very little prep time before and between the waves so perhaps have 1 big ship that you can just sit on top of the beacon, and a small ship that can attack and also can repair every turret and cannon you have.. I'd also consider another functionality: some sort of a tub with grinders, like a grinder pit, but for space, so you can grab a few wreck and get some ammo and resources - not sure how much time you'll have for that though.. But it will be fun! I'm interested, mate. Keep going! 🙂
It's way less if a hassle to grind structures than to manually grind rocks. You should revisit your starting process lots of room for efficiency and speed improvements.
Nice video. Good tip on the GPS markers. You've made me want to go back and play this scenario again! FYI that most (all?) asteroids have two resources in addition to stone.
You depressurize the cockpit because it doesnt have an airlock setup. So every time you open the door, you vent the air to space. So, depressurize> open door >exit cockpit area and vice versa.
Yup, however, in this game to have a true airlock you need to build an air vent between the two doors. Also, you need to actually use it, and from the videos of Dave, I believe he is psychologically unable to use one. Probably because this is a game, with respawns, and therfore he has no true risk.
Depresurizing also allow to drain the air out of a planetary atmosphere, even if low, to charge up oxygen tanks and cockpits with oxygen for "free" (only costs the power requirements of the air vent).
you can adjust the settings after the world is started by double clicking the folder icon left or right i cant recall off hand but after that you click on teh save file/backup that is in it and go to edit settings...
Hi pandemic, @ 16:40 i like to remove the airvent cause i always forget to close it ( loose unnecessary air) and instead put the basic assembler there.
why didn't you route the drill straight through the front windshield directly inline with the survival Kit? You could have saved all the materials from the conveyor junction, and still maintained the airtightness (if thats a word) of you cabin
The air vent control is for people like you who are horrible about using an airlock properly. To prevent wasting ice, can just stop pressurizing the cockpit and rely on the O2 bottle.

I never had to grind thruster to find the parts for the drill.
No reason to remove the atmosphere from the cockpit. Just 2 engines need to be ground down to the pipes.

Merging to an asteroid is SOP for space pod starts, especially on public servers.

Break down two of the rear thrusters and you can build a ship drill immediately.
Awesome, didnt know that you can /gps to quickly create a waypoint!
Nice start on that scenario. Happy to follow you on this and see what is done different.
Could have saved some resources and put that drill directly on the survival kit....
Let's see this evolution of your craft!
Was afraid that I would damage the survival kit if I hit the drill to hard onto an asteroid

Yes, but if used properly, he'd only lose the airlock volume and not the whole cockpit.

Likely a weekly frequency
Are you still playing this series?
Yes, unfortunately, I have this lingering cough so it makes for terrible commentary. Once the cough is a lot less I'm going back at it

No mods in this series at the moment. Straight up scenario setting. I'll add in the description if I do add mods
