How to Counter Xerneas with MEMES! Pokemon Showdown Salt

- What is going on everybody, I know I don't typically upload Pokemon Showdown, but today I was experimenting with some fun anti meta Pokemon when I ran into my first victim, and needless to say, my opponent didn't like my strategy very much. Hopefully you guys enjoy the Showdown Salt, I've never had a player get this mad over Pokemon Showdown before, so hopefully you enjoyed it as much as I did!

@@The_Pikaboi honestly that's what gets me. A tanky pokemon that can get a guaranteed sleep that is weak to both of one of the opponent's stab moves... The other Pokemon on said opponent's team is a dragon... And you have a fairy... Yeah I'm seeing the obvious optimal target

@@zant2146 A lot of them don't realize that sites like Smogon are mostly just observing the meta, not a list of rules. It's like tier lists in Smash Bros. Some people live and die by them, even though they're just a reflection of what is being used at tourneys.
@@zant2146 That's why I love low ladder. It's full of noobs with teams literally full copied from Smogon strategies. I mean, at first might be a problem, but once you have seen the same set for the same Pokemon 50 times, you can easily predict him.
@@HannibalKantter And they get mad when they can't predict you. I remember playing a SpD invested Registeel with the berry that halves damage from fire attacks in RU to bait Salazzles and RKO them after in the middle of 7G. It worked pretty well but I got so much "Your set doesn't make any sens, why not just invest in Defense?" it was kinda depressing
the funniest thing about the competitive pokemon scene is that they all go on a set meta and will always try to anticipate that meta and build a team against it, so when someone does something that isn't meta and beats them they get super offended and call everyone cheaters/exploiters/cheap players just because they lost to someone who isn't playing the meta.
All of this. Lol. I don't do the competitive scene hardcore, and I've held my own using non-IV Bred Pokemon against people who meta the hell out of the game. Pokemon Battles are like a game of Chess; you have to think a few turns ahead of the opponent, and when people use Meta builds, It's easy to predict what they're going to do, and flip the script on them.
From what I've seen on YT it's more like a bunch of sheep following until someone finds sth that herds those sheep and then they'll try that instead
@@PinHeadSupliciumwtf VGC2020 forcing doubles format and being easily-played online with actual rankings (thus incentivising people to do it) has really exposed how narrow Smogon's playing field has been
And then when the off set gets to popular and punishing they ban it its why i quit conpetitive pokemon
@@RagnellAvalon i mean at least in gen 8 singles 6v6 isnt the same pokemon every single game (apart from urshifu and at least one of his counters) unlike ash gren being on every single team in gen 7.

Palkia is that one box mon I always forget exists until I see it. And it’s weird, because you would think that Base 150 SpA and Dragon/Water typing would be a bigger selling point. Like, “Kingdra with a Rocket Launcher”
@@spindash64 It's the design probably. Dialga looks more "impressive", "grand" idk how to describe it. It's just more memorable and it's unique Dragon/Steel typing at the time helped.

Ultimately, a creative set like this IS a metagame call. It relies on the opponent’s predicted threats to work. Metagame goes:
- Threat
- Counter to the Threat
- Counter to the Counter
- New Threat

I found the game on smogon replays, and Weedle said something else during the battle:
“Nice nicknames by the way, almost as original as your team!”
Regardless of game/setting I always name my Gardevoir "Warm Sleeve" and Nidoqueen "Mommy"

Personally, i would congrat my opponent for using such a creative team. Don't care if i losed or won in the end.
Some people are lifeless trashbags who can't accept defeat no matter what. Personally yes, I would also enjoy playing against this strategy. It's creative and innovative. But online gaming community tends to be very... crass. To them, the only way to have fun is winning.
Which is sad since you can have so much fun by being outplayed like that. Like really, if it happened to me, I would certainly be mad, but also impressed and amused. But hey, 1000 elo tho. :p

This takes me back to the days when I used Entrainment Dedenne with Mega Charizard Y.
Charizard Mega Evolves, Drought activates, then the slightly faster Dedenne shares Plus with it for a 50% Special Attack boost on both of them. It didn't always work (screw Rock Slide) but the times where this got sweeps were beautiful. Dedenne became my favourite Pikaclone thanks to that.
I think I used the same combo but with modest zard-y and plusle with entrainment.
I swear i face that same cheesy BS squad every game. Good to see someone shut it down like that

Beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. Ya know, your editing skills give me great inspiration. Every time I try out something different, I always use your videos as reference point before creating my own thing. Your videos show me just how far Pokemon content can go and be considered as original even during its absolute worst times. It sucks that I still have much to learn and am mainly lacking consistency. Regardless, maybe someday I can be able to do what you're able to do on a usual basis. Great work as always man. Keep up the amazing work!
P.S: Currently in the final chapter for Octopath Traveller. Just when I thought the music can't keep getting any better, it just does.They really did go all out on this one. Hope to listen to more of it in your videos!
I'm so glad I give you motivation to be creative, and I haven't gotten to this point in the game, but after hearing the first few tracks in Octopath I've looked up the OST knowing it would be amazing!

I really appreciate these. You play like I do! Do the unexpected! I cant tell you how many games I've won because people think my delcatty cant hurt anything (fake out, thunderwave, sucker punch, return with normalize and a silk scarf) thing cant take a hit but they have to hit it first.

IMO I would’ve brought something that can use Prankster + Taunt because if I saw a Linoone on someone’s team in a format like this, I’d assume they’re gonna use Belly Drum. Either that or I’d go for something with Encore, or even something that can hit multiple times so that after using BD, it’ll easily get finished off. Granted, Linoone used Simple Beam here, but I think my point still stands. Kudos to exploiting the popularity of Power Herb Geomancy Xerneas, at any rate. Very intelligent play!

This is exactly the problem with the competitive community. Everyone is so desperately trying to win in the easiest way possible, copying strats from online and using the scummiest teams they can. Then, they either gloat and act like a legend when they win or they throw a fit when they lose. People outright insult you for using stuff not considered viable in the tier.
