Hi. Would you know if changed all the capacitor of my US Dreamcast all to solid capacitors make it read the games again (not even the CD can be read- music CD)? The Dreamcast is relatively new, it's not been used for a 1 week (24 hours each day) in total. It was working well the last time I used it but now it won't read, after being stored for more than 1.5 years. I already cleaned the lens with 99% alcohol but it now won't read. Suggestions are welcome. If yes, replacing all capacitors in the unit (except the modem) with solid capacitor, will fix this, is there a shop who sells a complete Dreamcast solid capacitor? If there's none, any list of all the unit's capacitors and values? I have another PAL Dreamcast, I've replaced it's GD-ROM but it keeps burning the chip in it, I wonder how this can be fixed. It first started when I left the Dreamcast for about 8 hours playing one song, from a music CD, in an infinite loop (I fell asleep). Thank you. Stay safe. God bless, Rev. 21:4
How do you reconnect the ribbon cable? I disconnected mine by accident, and I can't seem to reconnect it. It looks a bit messed up but I don't want to even get another if I can't manage to get this one in.
debes desarmar todo y quitarle el el metal entonces vas a encontrar la ranura donde puedes reconectar el cable y luego le pones otra vez la tapa de metal y conectas el laser con el cable y listo
I know that this is very late, but the ribbon is easily reconnected if you remove the whole laser rail assembly. It is held on by one screw in the bottom right. it pops right out, and will give you all the wiggle room you need to reattch the ribbon safely. Look for a little white plastic piece with a screw in it.
Hello. I have a problem with my Dreamcast. It shuts down when i close the lid with disc inside. If there is no disc its working showing menu but when i insert disc ans close the lid it shuts down and it does not turn on for couple minutes

I think he misunderstood me, I'm Spanish and I'm using the translator. I think what you have done to fix the Dreamcast has been to change the flex cable and put a new potentiometer to the lens, picked up from another reader. Is it like that?
i think what he meant was that blue wire from the pot. a cable should be easy to find on any website. im curious too on what is that blue wire and where it go. hope to hear from u soon.

I'd just replace the CD drive it's about 30 bucks

So what is the part you actually replaced & what did you replace it with?
ImmortalInflames it was the ribbon cable between the laser unit and the circuit board , I replaced it with a new one from Ebay

Erikop they was just cheap ribbon cables from china , makes no difference what colour they are

No i just changed the flex cable , i didnt fit a new potentiometer
