What is the best laminate for sticker shops? What brand works best for you? In this video, I'm going to be discussing the pros and cons on both the Avery Self Laminating Sheets and the Oraguard UV Protection Laminate! Both are great options for beginners, hobbyists, or successful Etsy shops in 2021. Create beautiful, water resistant stickers with these laminates!

So I got my Oraguard in today and I am stunned at how professional my stickers look and feel now. I have been DESPERATELY trying to figure out where to get supplies to make matte laminated stickers like the ones you can get from professional printers. You are the only person to give clear enough instructions about the product for me to be able to find some. I really didn't want to use the Avery, I didn't want a glossy look and I wanted UV protection. THANK YOU LIV!!
Does the oraguard have a textured finish
@@andrewfranklin45 I wouldn't describe the matte finish as textured, it's almost like a smooth satin finish? When you first put it on it will look textured. You have to burnish it on with quite a bit of pressure to get it to be completely smooth.
I'm sorry, I'm just now seeing your comment!! So glad I could lead you in the right direction!! & yes, definitely burnish it down hard, it doesn't scratch as easily as Avery so make sure you have good pressure!

what setting do you cut the stickers on the cricut after applying the oraguard laminate?
How are you cutting out the sticker on the black lines? It looks so bad when I try to cut it..
Thank you for sharing. I have adjust my settings a few times now and somehow I end up with a ribbed feeling all around my stickers. I'm using OnlineLabels Matte finish and Oraguard 210 Gloss laminate. Anyone else get the same?
Do you put this on your sticker sheets BEFORE you cut them with your cricut? What setting do you use to cut?
Yep before & I use medium cardstock or posterboard+, depends on how new my blades are!
Does it matter what sticker material you use? I am planning on getting printable vinyl, but I see several people saying that the 236 didn't help their stickers from fading. Would that make a difference?
It will depend on the purpose of your stickers. The industry standard is oracle 651 for outdoor use and UV resistance. Factors like vinyl quality and laminate do affect the fading, however the most important would be the ink used. Unless you're printing things professionally, your prints WILL fade at a much quicker pace.
Can the Oragaurd one be used with sticker paper or just printable vinyl?

@@8newcreation a link for the oraguard? Just do a google search for oraguard 215 and it should come up! There is HUNDREDS of small vinyl shops that sell it, you just have to find the cheapest one at the time you're purchasing because it's constantly changing! Sorry I don't have a direct link!!!

I know this is late, but they sell matte laminate. It's called oracal 215 and you can select glossy or matte when purchasing in a roll

what's with the numbers in the oraguard? 210 pvc vs 290 pvc vs 236 pvc, which one is best?
When I created the video, I didn’t know there was different numbers. I use the 236, it’s the matte version!

I tried Oraguard 236 and was severely disappointed with how much my stickers that I placed on my car faded. :/ Not blaming you, just sharing my experience. They faded way more than I expected.
Oh, good. It's not just me.
I've tried Avery, Vvivid, and OraGuard lamination, and they've all faded quickly. Why do they brag about UV protection, if UV fades the product as quickly as one week after applied? I could see a difference, in 2 days, with this last test. I don't understand why it is so difficult to get a UV laminate that is actually has resistance against UV.
@@Richard97402 If all these laminates have failed you, the issue is probably with your print. Water based dye inks will fade FAST, no matter which laminate you use. Water based pigment inks are a little better than dye based, but if you want superior fade resistance you need solvent based inks or latex, which require the proper printers for each respective inks. In the past, I have used water based pigment inks and laminated with Oraguard 200; the stickers last for about 2.5 to 3 years on rear vehicle windows. Now, I only print with solvent based inks, which etch themselves into the printable vinyl and last much, much longer. I laminate according to the application. For small outdoor decals, I used Oraguard 200. For window perf or larger fleet graphics that require longer life, I use Oraguard 290F. Laminates can be expensive when you get into the optically clear, cast versions. Spend some time researching the best laminate for your application. It is not very economical to use an expensive laminate on a car decal that is expected to only last a year, so choose wisely and save some dough.
@@Richard97402 There are various things that affect ink fade - type of paper and laminate, but most importantly is the ink. Pigment based inks are more suited for outdoor printing however these machines cost about 25k+. On the other hand, most regular printers use dye inks which are combined with water. No amount of UV protection will be able to prevent a water based ink from fading.
True, UV resistance is to resist the stickers from degrading or breaking down from sunlight BUT not necessarily from fading, but it did help in some way from the weather. I tested DYE ink and PIGMENT ink printed stickers, outdoors and pigment ink has been A LOT better -so far 10 months for me and it is still as vibrant when I placed it. DYE ink faded in 2 months, laminated. The type of vinyl stickers also gets affected by UV degration. One vinyl type curled on the edges of my stickers due to UV and the other type printed with picment ink has not fade after 10 months and still intact. Funny how Sharpie black ink (marked the date it was placed) has faded quicker than my pigment printed stickers. Both my "vinyl and laminates" are those inexpensive ones and in Amazon.

It’s called common sense. There are 16,000 views on this video- it sounds like at the time of this video, her supplier was small and sold out frequently. If she linked it, it would sell out everywhere and not be available for the people who need it and have the price skyrocket for everyone trying to buy it (not just for her). I’ve had this happen before- a youtuber recommended something I used all the time in my business. All of a sudden the price doubled and now it’s impossible to find… just most TH-camrs don’t care bc they want the money from the affiliate link. This way only the people that are actually serious about needing it will find and buy it. If it was selfish gatekeeping, she wouldn’t have recommended it in the first place- she even advises you to buy as much of it as you can find bc it’s always sold out.
Often years of experience go into videos like this- she had to research the right brands, probably wasted money on the wrong brands, figured out what works and what doesn’t. Not to mention filming and editing the video…. And is now sharing all that hard fought information with us free of charge. But you’re right, how selfish of her to force us to type a few words in the search bar.
