lol awesome vid. I took the Ram Rebel off road the other day in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. I actually got stuck for the firsttttt time ever since owning it. I was really surprised at first. But then when I got out and used my traction aids I realized ohhh yaaaa it makes sense there is/was about 3ft of snow built up on a untraveled trail. Fun getting unstuck though, that's what its allllll about. Looks like its warming up around here lately, today it was +10'c so that's a good sign. Summer here we comeeee lol.
We've had a few come through thr shop now for PDI. Ground clearance is pretty good. Based on how that ELSD performed in other tests. I also wouldn't be surprised if it replaces the G80 on next gen trucks.
According to Transport Canada, the US Rubber Manufacturers Association and the Tire and Rubber Association of Canada, all tires with the mountain snowflake (winter AND all weather) are tested to the same snow traction test.
This vehicle has a dedicated recovery point. Like most cars, a hook can be screwed into the rear. You can see a small square cut out. The hook is likely in the rear storage area just lift of the rear tail gate and take a look see.
I was thinking the same thing about the white square above the hitch guard. I know many brands have the I-bolt that you screw in to the rear. I wonder if they just didn’t see this or if the AT4 honestly doesn’t have. Which would be crazy!
I came here to say the same thing. Not quite as convenient as a fixed tow hook but looks better the 99.9% of the time it isn’t needed and they aren’t really all that hard to use.
Curious if you guys have ever tested the Mickey Thompson A/T tires? They have great cold temp rubber compound, they have been great substitute for me on winter tires
If you look at the rear end there's a square knock out and the plastic bumper and I'm pretty sure that's a recovery point if you pull that off there should be something in the trunk that you could screw into there and pull on the trunk
Im a Land Cruiser guy, but nice to see GM step up their game. This SUV is a very big improvement from the previous model in comfort and quality wise. One thing I noticed that GM should review, the rear arms and axle are too low for a off road ride, Other than that I think GM starting to take the right path. The Middle East is a big market for cars and specially for SUVs and Trucks. General Motors SUVs and Trucks used to be a fierce competitor with Toyota between 1970s and the beginning of 2000s in the Middle East. Now is the right time to restore glory of the American Cars Industry
would have loved to see Big Green do that same area to drive home the point it doesn't matter what you have, ground clearance conquers all in the snow.
What is the cover just above and to the right of the hitch cover? Could that be an access point for a screw in recovery or is there another accessory? Great video guys. Keep up the hard work.
Good eye Dave - however it's an access to lower the spare tire. A number of viewers thought the same thing. The screw-in recovery pin is a heavy truck thing - and I wish other manufacturers would use it more - it would have been perfect.
@@TruckKing I'm giggling a little at your "heavy truck thing" comment. I immediately assumed that's what that little cover might be, because a screw-in recovery pin is exactly what I have...on my Subaru Outback. :P

Just when I think I'm settled on a Denali pickup, I watch this...thank god for supply chain issues, I'll have 'til 2023 or 4 to decide. Hey can you turn 35's in those wheel openings with the lift ?
Price is up there and no 6.2 . I am thinking of getting a 2019 XL Denali and turn it into a luxury homemade AT4 with 22in wheels factory and AT or MT tires(285/55R22)... It Would be like going hiking in a suit.😁
My Jeep Grand Cherokee with a small lift and some General Grabber AT2's on it eats snow alive, but its short wheelbase and roughly 13 inches of ground clearance body, and the rear axle seems to not care about snow (its an 08 so it had a solid rear still). While I haven't driven through enough snow to hit the skid plates I have dragged the axle and it seems to do alright. Also despite being about 31% shorter its only about 15% lighter so its equally as planted As for the AT4 line overall, you nailed it. It is made for dirt roads that could become mud roads or snow roads depending on the year. Its not meant to be a rock crawler or baja racer. Actually the Acadia AT4 has a special package for overlanding where they take the third row out and give you all that in extra cargo room and they give you a rail system. So GMC specifically really has an absolute gem on their hands with this lineup and I just wish they would give the sierra at4 a little more love, but the entire pickup line needs a little more love (and its emergency refresh proves that)
@@alexmcgovern2983 yeah, for sure. What I would like to see though, is an agressive snow tire, like an all terrain tire, but for snow. @@FunkMasterJunk also trucks need thicker ply tires for heavier weights, softer rubber compound would have a harder time meeting the requirements for a road worthy tire..
@@alexmcgovern2983 None of those tires, are a "Winter Tire". They are all Terrain tires. Did u watch the beginning of the video? The explanation? Winter tires are softer, for Winter conditions. Unlike an All Terrain Tire. My point is, a winter tire for a truck, has the same tread pattern as a car. Like you said blizzack's, xice etc, you buy a set of blizzacks for your car and a set for your truck, the tread pattern on both will be the same. But they will be an "LT" rated tire for your truck. Tire manufactures make a winter tire to perform for car owners who want as little tire noise as possible, not affect fuel economy too badly; But still provide safe, on road performance in winter conditions. I want to see a company make a "winter tire" dedicated to truck owners who want an agressive tread pattern, who dont care about noise and want better performance in deep snow. That DOES NOT EXIST. Having an all terrain tire with a snow flake on it is not a winter tire, its an all terrain tire. A winter tire and an all terrain tire do not perform the same in winter, studs or not. The all terrain has a harder rubber composite and is not as effective for traction in colder weather, " They turn into Hockey Pucks". You wouldnt want a soft all Terrain tire, cause they wont last on gravel roads and rocky terrain in the summer, you would have flats all the time. So, again, I want to see someone make an agressive "Winter Tire" where I dont care about the noise (cause my summer mud tires make a lot of noise), that will get me into my camp in the winter in deep snow and still handle half descent on ice. The reason they haven't engineered a tire like that, I suspect, is there is not a large enough market for that type of tire. The market share is too small.
Another awesome video...I agree the GM full size brands are the best in ride comfort...I am a Caddy buyer, but they are all basically the same, great rides all around for those long or short trips
Loved it guys and hi from Australia. You can’t beat a Canadian snow test :) I’m looking at this with the diesel or a Lexus LX for future BC Highway ski runs. Just concerned with reliability, not sure that’s a fair call but hard to match Lexus on that point, seems like the Yukon would beat it on most other metrics.
Just curious, when you get stuck like that, I wonder if lowering the ride height for a second would pack the snow down, then your can raise it back up and see if that'll allow it to back out? Maybe another tool in the box if your in a real situation.
Hey. How do you think an suv like this AT4 would handle bad snowstormy roads (on and off) and highways and weather compared to a pickup like the new Ford F150 Raptor, assuming both had the best snowtires possible on them?
Truck Kings, This video explains perfectly why there are no turtles in the Yukon. In terms of the GMC Yukon being the perfect road trip vehicle, I suppose if someone else is paying for the gas.....

Worthwhile review. Thanks. A question: If you pop off the cover over the rear tow hitch, and I do think I saw that this AT4 had the tow hitch and cover, is there a hook in there attached to the frame that could be used for pulling weight, possibly right next to the tow hitch itself? And I should probably also ask, is it a quick and easy thing to pop off that tow hitch cover, and then to reattach it? Clearly the two red tow hooks up front can be used that way, but as your review showed, there are times that a rear tow hook would be useful to have. You got creative and found a part of the frame underneath to attach the tow line to, so it's great knowing that is an option, but it would as you mention be nice to have a rear hook as well which would be easier to use than having to climb around underneath. I didn't see you check under that tow hitch cover, and years ago anyway, there always used to be a hook next to the tow hitch on cars we had that chains could be attached to for added safety while hitching up and using the tow hitch to pull a boat or something. A long shot perhaps, but I thought to ask. Thanks again for the useful review.
The small cover you see in the bumper is to release the spare tire. There is no rear tow hook. The cover for the hitch is just two plastic clips and they come off quickly. We could have attached to the safety chain hooks - however there are those that think that isn't safe. We have towed from the hitch ball before and got murdered in the comments. ')
@@TruckKing Thank you for the very clear additional information, and correction of my mistaken assumption regarding that black cover. I thought that larger black cover at the center bottom of the rear bumper was for hiding the tow hitch, not realizing it was for accessing the spare tire. It was the safety chain hook(s) I was ultimately referring to as something that might have worked, but I was not aware that it was unsafe to pull using those, or arguably unsafe. I just assumed that those were solidly attached to the vehicle structure, same as the red tow hooks were in the front, so could be used just the same, but apparently there is some question about that or about how reliable that attachment is. Live and learn. As to why people would criticize you all for towing from the hitch ball, that doesn't make sense to me. I would have used the tow hitch myself, just as you all have done in the past. If it can hold and pull a roughly 8,000 lb boat, I don't see why you shouldn't use it to pull the vehicle out of a ditch or deep snow if it is the rear that is accessible. I guess I don't understand their criticism of you on that point. In any case, since the hitch ball had apparently not been hooked up to the AT4 yet, it wouldn't have been there for you to even consider using anyway. In the end, I'm with you, it would have been nice had GMC put one or two red tow hooks in the rear as well, red or otherwise. Maybe in a future model.
Behind the little white lid above the hitch you can put a " towhook". It's probobly located in the cargo area under the floor. Every car in Europe has the same solution. 👍🙈💥
Strange, over here they put the spare tire inside the car, under the floor in the cargo space. We have like a threaded towing "hook" that we screw in behind that little lid. I guess it's different from car to car. 👍
I decided to come work full time here at Truck King and run my own channel, that's all. Still have a great relationship with Roman and all the fellas over there 👍
The big problem is the differential it is very low but the 2015 until 2020 it was high and it is having a good clearance ( not bad ) bu the new one is having very bad differential !
On the back bumper of the GMC there is a little square cap that’s visible in the video! Pop off that little square cap there is your recovery hook. Duh!
Great review but, this Yukon at4 is way too heavy for winter off roading with that much powder snow , almost a 6 thousand pound vehicles ain’t go to cut it.🇨🇦👍🏻👍🏻
Also add I do have a 04 Tahoe and it’s good on long road trips. If I started over with a young family I would buy the new Tahoe/ Yukon for that reason on taking road trips to arenas for lacrosse 🥍 and all their players and goalie gear.🤣👏🏻👏🏻

I definitely like this channel more than TFL
Winter tires are vey good for hard pack and ice not so good for deep snow. You would have gotten a lot further with all-terrain K02s.
Is that small cover on the back bumper not hiding a recovery point hookup?
No, spare tire lock-dropdown
@@ELRORRITO1 Ah, guess the hitch is really the best option then.
Would be interesting to see a winter tire test for cooper at4 tires. Also an all weather rated light truck tire vs a dedicated winter.
I am waiting for the Diesel version here in the U.S., only way to buy these.
I use the towbar (towhook) to tow.
How much of a difference would the Tahoe Z71's mLSD make vs Yukon AT4's eLSD in similar situations?
With the depth of snow we were in - none. They would have both been stuck.
@@TruckKing sorry, I meant how much more worse would the Z71 do? Do you think that it could even handle the parking area the AT4 did so well in?
Behind the little white lid above the hitch you can put a " towhook". It's probobly located in the cargo area under the floor.
Every car in Europe has the same solution. 👍🙈💥
No. That's the spare tire release.
Strange, over here they put the spare tire inside the car, under the floor in the cargo space.
We have like a threaded towing "hook" that we screw in behind that little lid.
I guess it's different from car to car. 👍
what happened between you and tfl? I miss you over there..
Duh!
No - that’s the spare tire release. We looked.
My dad has a GMC sierra 2014 4x4 😂❤
Does it have a rear locker at least?
Yes
They are fairly similar in price I’m considering a AT4 Yukon or a Z71 Suburban.
no your not
Hey Truck King and Howard!! Not sure but isn't AT4 the New Z71 pkge for GMC?? Enjoy the day 🌞!!
You are correct
@@TruckKing Thanks Truck King!! 😀
Do you think Ram rebel would have done better? With stock good year duratracs.
yep
I've got Duratracs, they aren't great in snow, only ok.
Nice Luxury GMC SUV
Great review but, this Yukon at4 is way too heavy for winter off roading with that much powder snow , almost a 6 thousand pound vehicles ain’t go to cut it.🇨🇦👍🏻👍🏻
Also add I do have a 04 Tahoe and it’s good on long road trips. If I started over with a young family I would buy the new Tahoe/ Yukon for that reason on taking road trips to arenas for lacrosse 🥍 and all their players and goalie gear.🤣👏🏻👏🏻
@@erniearruda8861 😅 a young family buying a 70,000 suv yeah..
@@Noah204. it depends on your income for sure , if you can afford it sure. Or wait a couple years later and get a used one.For a family of six this would be a good vehicle with a lot of sports stuff to haul around.I did the mini van a few years back with the family going on road trips to different arenas in the province and trips ,not enough room for passengers and luggage/ equipment to haul around. If you really wand more space the suburban is the way to go.
Great video guys! What Suv would you recommend for those snow depth conditions that would not have the same problem?
4 Runner
None
@@TruckKing so a Pickup would be the best option ?
@@markgasparro i'd say a SnowCat
Jeep with 35 inch rubber
No solid rear axle?
No.
I dunno how I feel about that. Reminds me of the small nissans. R51, independent suspension and lots of 3 wheeling. I get it tho, and maybe they should still offer one or at least mounting locations for solid axles.
I’d like to see how the Toyota Land Cruiser would Do in that amount of snow too.
The Toyota Land Cruiser does not remotely compare to this GM piece of Junk!
The land cruiser is infinitely better than any GM product😂
@@harryballsonya7182 I’m agree if you said land cruiser is more reliable, but Yukon is far more luxury and high tech than old school land cruiser.
@@michaelxu7132
The Yukon is Cheaply built just like it’s older sister the Cadillac Escalade.
The quality of that so called “luxury” items put into the yukon/Escalade are outright bad!
It’s all cheap chrome and plastic Michael. GM products since 2008 have been some of the worse in the industry and now that Chevy/gm has a plant in Mexico it’s even worse!
Quality control is basically non existent with GM just pure junk
@@harryballsonya7182 I don’t blame you to hate GM products.I’m just saying lots Toyota cars that are too outdate,it’s 2021 now,but look those techs in 4Runner,sequoia,it’s just like they are from 90’.
I not saying Toyota is not reliable, just wish they can update their techs
@@michaelxu7132
100% agreed the tech in Toyotas may not be as advanced as the competition. BUT!!
No matter how new or innovative the technology in these new cars is, the reliability of the technology as well is definitely almost non existent.
Take for example Kia/Hundai GDI system which is notoriously known for oil/fuel dilution.
Yeah, gdi engines are some new technology....but none of the technology combined can beat the tried and true Toyota build quality in general.
I don’t hate GM. I simply dislike when companies sugar coat their product and years later the damn clearcoat peels off😑
Or....the transmission goes out at 80,000miles....typical GM product
Needs the 6.2 engine.
Join the 2020s and get a kinetic rope for recovery… still a great video :)
Can you try the Chevy suburban
That rear axle looks about to hit the ground i dont know why not just stick to solid axles
Interior space that's why
Deserves a better suspension set up. Buyers are already reaching deeper into their pockets. Give us king, blisten, fox shocks and a steering stabilizer. I’d sign the dotted line then.
What use is a steering stabilizer on an IFS set up?
My thoughts on this particular AT4 color and all sexiest looking big SUV ever followed by the new Tahoe. like if I had the money to choose one vehicle any vehicle super pricey Like talking 100000 and up and despite the new electric trucks that are super cool Id still pick this! Has all the Room in functionality I need an I'm in love with the outside styling of this thing the way they did the DR else are super slick scrooge that whole front facia alone the only thing I change is I would put black door handles!
Thank G for the Jeep

Can you review the Ford Ranger Tremor?
When we get one we will - summer maybe
@@TruckKing yes can’t wait!!
It did pretty good in the parking lot. Does that mean it's a mall crawler?
It will do a bit more than that Richard - I think we were expecting too much for the conditions.
@@TruckKing Sorry, it was my failed attempt at a joke!!!!
You should probably have tried to use chains. If even the chains would not allow you to drive on this snow, then I think this is a problem in the design of this skid plate.
We don't use chains in Ontario.
