  • If you want to step up your game in the woodworking trade, it typically requires upgrading equipment. Jon B., the owner of Seventeen20.com, went for the biggest capacity he could find. The Felder K 940 S sliding table saw offers a 12-foot sliding table, and more. Not only does the Felder K 940 S tackle the projects, Jon is extremely pleased with the performance.
    Felder will help you configure the machine/s for your needs. The Felder K 940 S we reviewed included a 7.5 hp motor running on 3ph 460V power. Seventeen20 makes hand-crafted furniture, routinely ripping an cross-cutting 12/4 (3-inch) hardwood.
    You can run up to a 16-inch blade, without the scoring blade. When using the scoring blade, it requires a 14-inch blade or smaller. This particular Felder K 940 S sliding table saw is set up with the extra large outrigger table and workpiece roller.

    Tonight I came to TH-cam to find videos of one of my favorite drummers playing drums. What I found was a video of one of my favorite drummers, reviewing a giant saw. What a world.

      That's right!! You can't be JB on the drums or on a sliding table saw. ;) Great guy. Thanks for watching.

    Great overview of a very seriously well engineered machine from a real user.
    Every time I look at a Felder panel saw video I learn a bit more and now understand the points of differentiation across the range.
    It would be good to see a practical follow up demo on a project.

    I bought a Felder 700 S around 10 years ago. The best investment I ever made. I watched the video to see any improvements made since I bought mine. There's very few changes, while somethings are identical.I guess Its hard to improve on perfection. I'm not saying there the best, maybe they are. One thing is for certain, If it up and died tomorrow, I wouldn't hesitate, I would order another one.

      That's great to hear. We agree, there are 3 Felder / Format4 machines at this place and all of them are great quality and great performance.

    Felder is Austrian, not German.

  • @AJsGuitarWoodWork

    Well thats more an quick overview than an review in my opinion :) those typ of saws are awesome if you have the space for it (like crosscut a full sheet or more) you can break down several sheets quick easy and with almost no effort. And if you get or build yourself a "Fritz and Franz" jig you can cut very smallparts safely and make cuts just by marking it because the end of the jig=cut line
    Also I think one thing is missing here, you can flip the ripfence on its side so its only about 1/2" high. In that position you can get very close to the blade when its tilted and you can cut thin material while using the dust shroud.
    Also a trick that was told me some time ago, if you turn the fliped fence upside down "you have a gap about 2") and aline it with the left side of your blade you can use the saw for flush cutting. Could be very fast if you have to do alot of it and workpiece is big enough.

      Felder makes great machines, and they have a great reputation. Felder USA will deliver to anywhere in the States. You can contact them, and they will put you in touch with your local rep/distributor. They're great to work with.

      Felder has a showroom in Sacramento. Call to make an appointment before just dropping in. Bring LOTS of $$$$. Their Hammer line is less expensive, but as their entry line, it's not in the same class as their Felder or Format lines. Their Format line is the top flagship line but it will set you back a very pretty penny -- plus an arm and a leg. You will quickly get used to cutting to 1/10th of a millimeter and really enjoy the benefits of a true precision machine which will allow to you to cut with astonishing -- and repeatable accuracy. As for me, I can only lust for one, at least until I win the Lottery jackpot or the Nobel Prize in Physics, which have about the same likelihood.

    How far out on the front of the sliding table can you mount the outrigger table, can this be moved out to the very end , so the outrigger table is sitting flush with the front of the sliding table?

    • @vincentrolfe1384
      @vincentrolfe1384 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes, flush with slider end to the face side of the crosscut fence; I leave about 6" of slider table hanging out for putting pencils, tape measure and whatever. Get the longest table you can afford.

  • @ravenmooore

    May I ask what the scoring is for? I only use the normal table saws and only know a Riving knife..

    • @Shoptoolreviews
      @Shoptoolreviews  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The scoring blade makes a very small cut in the surface of the wood, just ahead of the main blade. This keeps the "blowout" to a minimum when the main blade cuts.

    On the cross cut fence, does the one flip stop out on the very end of the telescoping part of the fence stay out on the end permanently? And then you have one flip stop that slides along the non telescoping part of the fence section? Thx

    Looks like you could rip an entire 8'x4' plywood sheet on that sliding table. Amazing saw! Don't even want to know what it costs, though :(

    • @Shoptoolreviews
      @Shoptoolreviews  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, it will definitely rip a sheet of plywood with ease. In this configuration, the K 940 S will run a little more than $20K.

      Felder has a sliding tablesaw that can cut a 4x8 sheet for 4000 dollar.

    • @woodworkchannel3353
      @woodworkchannel3353 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nick speelt what kind? At 4000 I doubt it has a big enough slider to rip 8 feet, for that sliding table must be at least that long , i was looking everywhere and anything under 5-6 k is 6 foot tables or less, ended up buying grizzly, 6 foot sliding table saw.

      Rich Guilford accurate in which way? Cross cutting or the slider table? Thx

    • @rguilford10
      @rguilford10 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@tundrawhisperer4821 I don't want to sound like an advertisement for Felder. However, I really like their equipment. I have the K700s with: 1. Longer slide (9 ft). You will need this do full 4x8 sheets long. 2. Remote start. Also pretty necessary for full sheet goods. 3. Dado set-up. 4. Scoring blade motor. Really makes plywood cuts clean. 5. Longer crosscut sled.
      I didn't feel I needed a power option for raising and lowering the blade and digital angles. The manual method works well. The analog dial for blade angle is spot on. I do a lot of live edge slabs and this saw cuts 3" oak very well. I really like using the slide to get a clean, straight edge on the non-live side. I also use it for up to 4" end-grain butcher block cutting boards. I don't have 3-phase power in my shop. I use a phase converter...no problems. Good luck in your hunt for your saw. Give Felder a call.

      @@rguilford10 do you have any other automation on this saw such as a auto rip fence or digital flip stops perhaps ? Thx

  • @MerelyAuditing

    $20,000 is nothing if you’re a professional engaging in production. $333/month over five years. That’s $1.90 an hour added to labor. I’m sure you more than make up for that with the efficiency gained from the digital blade tilt and remote start alone.
    If I want to rip sheet goods it involves a straight edge, clamps, non-plunging circular saw... and it’s nowhere near straight 😂

    • @Shoptoolreviews
      @Shoptoolreviews  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is a great point to make. You have to look at these machines as production units, and investments that bring income to your business. They enable the maker to do bigger and better jobs, and do them more efficiently.
