Controversial Vanderbilt University professor Carol Swain spoke out about the student-led petition calling for University leaders to suspend her for her beliefs.
For those who don't know. This is a woman who started life in a 2 room shack with 12 family members living there, and no bathroom. They lived there until she was 13, and her Mom moved to the city and got on welfare. She saw that trap (welfare) which her Mom and other siblings had fallen into, so at 16 she married a boy just so she could get out of that house. She got a job as a nurses aid, and one day a doctor told her that she was a beautiful and smart woman, and she could do better if she tried. No one had ever said anything like that to her. So she studied hard, filed for divorce and got her GED. Then on another recommendation, went to her local community college, and on to several Master's Degree's......
LMAO - That's great that she made it but -- Political free-zone? I don't think so. She has lied with her so called proof that the parties didn't switch after WW2. AND Her experience on welfare is limited to one state in the 50's and 60's and has nothing to do with her disabled mom and abusive stepfather. Typical lack of understanding of multiple factors. The constitution is a conservative document, but the whole idea of what the US was conceived as is pretty liberal. Even the very limited democracy was something new in Europe. Today, no one is less defensive of free speech than conservatives.

Keeping a journal is a good way to see if and how your political views change over the years. I have read my journal entries from years past and have noticed that while I am a liberal and an atheist, that my views can still fluctuate and if anything I welcome a little bit of fluctuation. I don't agree with Carol Swain, but I think playing devil's advocate is important. Personally, if you need a reason to keep a journal, that would probably be the reason.
I love this woman! She grew up in a shack, dropped out in 8th grade, got her GED at 21 & went on to go to college for a 4 year degree and graduated at the top of her class. She is amazing! Went on to get multiple more degrees. She's great!!

She has her agenda. The 1500 students have their agenda. There is one easy solution to the problem: don't sign up for her classes. They don't have to have her as their professor. Vanderbilt is a very large university. There are just as many hateful conservative profs as liberal profs. There are little snowflakes on both sides who get triggered by every little thing. Too bad. Get over it.

Propaganda is not truth. "Telling the truth" entails more than carefully selecting some actual facts that suit your biased agenda, while at the same time, omitting any and all facts that would contradict or debunk your narrative. That is exactly how successful propaganda is produced. And it's why PragerU exists.
Swain's PragerU videos including, "The Inconvenient Truth About the Democratic Party", and "Why Did the Democratic South Become Republican?" are two perfect examples. They include factual content, but also lie, sometimes by omission of truth she intends to hide, and other times by flat-out falsehoods. Her mission in these videos is not to "educate", but rather to INDOCTRINATE the unknowing into right-wing ideology.
Simply put, her long historical "lessons" exist for the sole purpose of hiding the fact that white supremacists, white nationalists and most other anti-black racists are overwhelmingly right-wing extremists. So LOGIC dictates that unlike 60 plus years ago, the vast majority of anti-black racists are proud and loyal Republicans. And THAT is "the Inconvenient Truth About the Republican Party" that Swain's videos exist to hide. And just like Candace Owens' PragerU videos, her complexion is not by coincidence or happenstance.
Her beliefs are welcome under our lovely FREEDOM OF SPEACH laws.

However, I am perplexed by how some students perceive common sense as a reason to suspend a professor. In my experience, I have always engaged in active listening when someone discusses their views with me. I take the time to compare their perspectives with my own, drawing from historical knowledge and my beliefs. This process of critical evaluation enables me to make well-informed and progressive decisions about my own opinions.
It is crucial to emphasize that I harbor no animosity towards individuals with differing viewpoints or opinions. On the contrary, I am appreciative of those who offer alternative perspectives, as such discussions foster progress and broaden our understanding of complex issues. The ability to acknowledge and learn from differing viewpoints is central to personal and intellectual growth.
In contrast, the students who advocate for the suspension of a professor based on their perspectives seem to exhibit a closed-minded and activist-like mentality akin to a cult. True academic progress thrives in an environment where diverse ideas are respected, discussed, and integrated into the learning experience. Encouraging such open dialogue is essential for nurturing critical thinking and fostering a deeper appreciation of various perspectives.
