I worked a total of 7 seasons, including a winter so i know the wonderful seasons. I was also blessed to have had my dream wedding there at Inn at Stonecliffe, 2005. These are some of the best years of my life. The Island is and will always be a part of me. Mackinac Island IS Pure Michigan!

Love spending my summers with my Grandmother on Mackinac Island up in the village. She had a giant wicker swing I'd sleep on sometimes at night. It was an amazing childhood. Grocery shopping at Dowds, ballet lessons at the town hall. My brother-in-law was the Chef at the Grand Hotel. Sisters worked at tracers and the Grand and me and the St. Onges and other kids went all over the island. I wanted to spend the winter with my Grandmother and go to school there but my mom would never let me. I cherish those days.

I am a Native Texan and my family has been in Texas since 1835 (before it was a state) so I don't think I could stand the Michigan winters. However, I do want to come visit Mackinac Island, Detroit and other places in Michigan. Mackinac Island intrigues me because of the bicycles and horses only rule as well as history- MY kind of place! I love this contrast of Summer Tourist Season and Winter Citizens only season. I love the Mayor's vision! More cities need her vision! By the way, one of my Swedish ancestors who came to Texas in the 1870's left for Michigan because he said it was too hot in Texas! I want to see the carriage museum and stable! Maybe I should come in the Winter since I am not fond of big crowds and like the local feel! Jackson train station looks amazing too! Perhaps my Swedish ancestor, Victor Sandstrom was there! I am a Certified Historic House Specialist and Horse Property Specialist so these places are right up my alley! I'd like to compare the "Texas" Bar B Q to TEXAS BarBQ. Sure looks authentic! My husband Ralph has his own smoker here in the Austin Texas area so we are BarBQ afficionados! LOL
We got our credit card robed from that restaurant across from that big hotel, never let the staff take your card away make never let your card out of your site. The fraud department contacted us but they looked after it . They had charged 800 bucks to our card, one of the servers that took care of us at that restaurant so please be very careful. The police said it goes on a lot at that island
Michigan winters can be deadly. but if your smart it shouldnt be an issue. Detroit sucks. its a dangerous dump. we do every thing we can do, to avoid detroit. The island is very expensive. very touristy. very busy. but wonderful. shop the main street. THEN go ride around the island. Wife and I kayaked from the mainland to the island last summer. amazing experience.

Come to Mackinac Island during Christmas. It's awesome. You will experience a warm comforting visit. Mackinac is awesome during the winter.

Let me see, Ella Sharp Park, the birthplace of the Republican Party, if down South the antebellum homes on Washington and Franklin Streets, the diversity, Cascades, the old Jackson Car Manufacturing plant, and all you can find is a train station or some barbecue joint. WOW!

LOL I live here and Mackinac Island does not have motorized vehicles like cars and motorcycles but we DO have things like work trucks, police cars, and ambulances. So stop trying to pretend that Mackinac Island is not unique! Mackinac is the only city that bans cars in the United States. Point proven Tong Yang who probably never even been in the state of Michigan.

All the signs and maps say "Mackinac Island". How come many people including you say "Mackinaw Island". I was amazed that even the mayor said it wrong! Mackinaw City and Mackinaw Bridge but Mackinac Island. There might be a native American accent the way Mackinac is pronounced. But isn't it officially Mackinac Island? Please verify and let us all know. I am a proud Michigander and very fond of its history. Please let me know what is proper. Thank you.

Actually not a lot of native population on Mackinac Island, moreso northern at St Ignace.
