Surprising that NO ONE has commented on this episode! As Tom said in the video, numerous times, Beaver Island TRULY is a gem; a great place for a vacation or short get-a-way! Whether you're alone, a honeymoon couple or a large family, you are SURE to have the time of your life on "The Beav!" The wife and I, along with our folks at times, have been visiting this beauty for years; short AND extended stays and let me tell you, it NEVER gets old or stale! The majestic beauty, the tranquility and, yes, even the "in-town crowds" are sure to please. Even though it's close to the mainland (about 18 - 20 mi.), you're worlds away once your feet are on the island. HIGHLY recommend a visit to this relatively still unknown wonder of our great state of Michigan! Thanks, Tom and crew, for shedding a little knowledge and some wonderful camera work about our home away from home, Beaver Island!
My grandfather was Bill Welke, he founded Welke airways so I know the island well. Haven't been there since I was a kid. One day I would love to go back. My uncle Paul still runs Island Airways.
Visited the island for a Memorial Day weekend back in 1990. Before the weekend ended my wife and I bought two condos at the Beaver Island Lodge. We have been going back and forth on vacations for the last 34 years and have since turned the condos over to my son. The island is everything you would hope for in a vacation paradise, all withing the USA.
We have property on Donegal bay. Love the island but quite a bit has changed since this video. Steve is no longer on the island, Stoney Acre is closed and the Shamrock and Beachcomber are for sale. We do have a new brewery that opened up a couple of years ago.
@@suzypos4571 love it over there. My wife worked at paradise bay coffee for a summer and I know the owners have a place on western shores. Very peaceful bay
This will be our 3rd trip to Beaver Island in August and we look forward to coming back every year in the future. If you do decide to visit, there's plenty of places to eat, so don't worry about a few closings. Also, there is a terrific supermarket in town that truly has everything you'd ever want foodwise. One of the real attractions are the near empty beaches where you feel truly away from the hullaballoo. Pro-Tip: Iron Ore Beach (south part of island) and Donegal Bay Beach are particular favorites. The Community Center (near the Beaver Island Ferry Docks) has yummy pizza at a great price. Don't miss the Toy Shop (Museum) shown in the video - and the inland lakes - which you can rent kayaks for (which can be delivered!) Truly a gem of a place.

My favorite place in America. Can’t wait to come back in June for a camping trip.
You didn't mention Drummond Island! Maybe you should go there!

Is it expensive to get to Beaver Island?
Whatever you do do not go to Donegal Bay for a view of the sunset. It's terrible. 😜
