They really nailed the McQuarrie aesthetic with that cardboard backdrop! I'm not too fussed about collecting the playsets but this one actually makes an awesome display piece.
Hello GQ Jedi, ur videos are always good. Not too long, not too short & definitely interesting. The quality of thought poured into ur dialogue & emotional enjoyment on each piece is always present. U always seem to answer ur viewers comments/questions while adding in enthusiasm with humor. Don’t let it go to ur head, but u’ve got a nice channel. I hope ur subs go up.
Thanks very much for your kind words and thoughts, buddy! Truly. I'm a tiny channel and I appreciate everyone who subscribes and listens to me rant on about vintage Kenner Star Wars toys. Haha! Just happy to hear that people like yourself are enjoying the content. It makes it all worth it! Thank you!
Deadly review cant beat the oul 3D art work in the back drop. Early playset this one a world of imagination. I look at my young lads today and I tell them use your imagination and dont be scared of a bit of mud , have fun play with your toys best days of your life childhood 😁 as a vintage sw collector I'm blessed to own this playset , a great edition to any collection and another great review 👍🏻 cheers
Imagination is everything. Definitely a requirement for the 70s and 80s! Ha! Great advice to give them. Soak it up boys, soak it allll up :) Kudos to you for owning this playset. It's not easy to find and in good shape. As always, thanks for tuning in, man!
Did you ever see the Micro machines Bespin Playset that Retroblastng had rescaled for the Star Wars scale action figures about two years ago? its incredable.
That playset is in excellent condition. It's something I need for my collection but it's prices get silly. It would be so much better if some of the set was made from plastic. Literally no action features at all. But very good for displaying your figures. Awesome video my friend. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
I found some scans on internet. I am going to try to recreate this playset after printing out the parts at work 😁 I just want to see how good quality the printed pieces will be, and if it worth of putting together =) I wounder how it will turn out if you glue the printed paper on to vorbla (?) -The thin plastic cos player tend to use. Or some kapa board (?) (Kapa/Capa-plattor in swedish) a typ of thin styering foam (?). -Sorry for the bad spelling and all the ?-marks, even google wont to help me out with the spelling. Its 00:40 here, I am tired, and I have to go to bed 😁
I think that Kenner should have made a Cloud City playset like the Palitoy Death Star. Here in the States, we didn't get that version so that would have been a great reworked.
I too would have liked to see an expanded/bigger version of the Cloud City playset. Multi level and made from plastic, much like the Death Star playset.
I think if Kenner would've made the set two sided with some scenes on the back of the cardboard base as well would've been cool, such as the getaway scene with Slave one at the East Platform. That would've been neat to have an extra scenic background to set the Slave one ship up against and our figures Leia, Lando and company as they made a last desperate attempt at saving Han Solo. They could've made the freezing platform with a plastic round compartment lid to have over the mid section so we could at least stand Han onto a plastic base instead of the cardboard that sags down after time. They could've had it be a smokey honey orange color plastic base that blended in with the freezing chamber unit..
All are good ideas. Such a letdown to just get a flimsy cardboard backdrop. I truly wish it was made of plastic and multi layered. Kenner did a great job with Bespin World for the Micro line. If only they could have scaled that idea up to 3 3/4”!
Nice playset. Kenner really should have made the front in plastic with more features and with the awesome cardboard backdrop it has now. Your idea for an elevator and other features is great. I love the backdrop. Yours is in very nice shape. It looks great on display though. Roy
Once again very enjoyable video dude, like you say, very little if any play features, however I think It looks stunning on display....unfortunately due to rising prices it’s something else I don’t think I’ll ever own, but still love it 👍
It is getting pricey and hard to find in decent condition. Just wish she had some play features to her. Oh well. She does display quite nicely, as you said.
Nice video. Thank you for the clear explanations. Do you also have the box and instructions? I'm thinking that if a guy could find a scan of the cardboard pieces, sticker is could be made to adhere to styrene plastic.
Sadly, I do not have the box for this set. I wish! Anything is possible nowadays with the current technology available. I will still always prefer and only purchase the real deal.
@@GQJedi Same here. I am ok with repro parts if the vintage ones are prone to deterioration (like the Dagobah foam) or failure (like imperial shuttle gears); otherwise, original is best
I had this as a kid. The artwork is great, but the thin, flimsy card-stock is was made out of was it's undoing. Under normal play, it didn't take long for mine to get destroyed.
I’m not a fan of Hasbro. Think it’s lame what they do to collectors. The chamber should have been 2 pieces. Making you buy 2 halves to one set is dumb IMO. Looks cooler than Kenner’s, because it’s an actual playset. But again, shame on them for their tactics.
its sad they cut this playset short considering it had a huge part in the last chapter of the ESB film like the deathstr ,they could've really made something w just as much play value if not equal next to the 1978 deathstar playset ,I know u don't like repro's but I bought one of this playset and added a Han torture chair to it that fit nice in its box ,I couldn't settle for a just the art work painted on cardboard of one ,Iwant more ply value to mine
To each their own. Collect and play with what you want, how you want :) I too wish the Cloud City playset was bigger and badder. We'll just have to continue to do with what we have and "upgrade" and or adjust it to our liking ;)
Super neat display set. Can I ask you about the measurements for this set? I have been searching all over internet, but cant find any fact. I would like to know the width and depth of it =)
I think the "Interrogation" of Han wasn't an interrogation at all, Vader did it to cause pain to Han, making Luke feel his friends were in trouble, luring Luke to Vader.
This cloud city playset was a travesty. Mind you Hasbro hasn't done anything better either. It's a mystery to me why kenner would make a deathstar and no cloud city?
You are preaching to the choir! We ALL wanted a full scale plastic multi leveled Cloud City playset. That much I can assure you, my friend. And no, Hasbro didn't bother to make Original Trilogy playsets like Kenner did back in the day. TBH, playsets are more a thing from a bygone era I'm afraid to say.

Agree. The playset is beautiful. Just wish it had more play to it though. Bespin could have been an awesome playset.

Brilliant review!! Excellent condition too!
Thanks, Sean! I got lucky finding this one when I did.

Hope you can track one down, Sean! My pleasure. Thanks for tuning in!
So great - empire !! The best - great video man - !!
Thanks, buddy! ESB is the Best film in my humble opinion. 🤘🏻
This one didn't last long, but the four figures are still with me, Bespin Han rules
Awesome that you still have your figures! And yes, Han does rule! 👊🏻
Your videos are Awesome! ☺
Thank you kindly! 🙌🏻 Glad you’re enjoying them!

Plastic would have been much better. But Beggars can’t be choosers though I guess. We’re lucky we got a playset. :) Thanks for tuning in, Bud!!

Rowlands Reviews - I totally agree with your summation of the playset.

A plastic playset with a couple levels to it would have been EPIC! Absolutely. But I'll take what we got :)

I need that! But there either expensive or in horrible condition. Great video
Pricey little pieces of paper. Thanks!
I never knew any one that have this as a kid.
Kids trashed it since it was paper. Didn't last too long and it was an exclusive as well.

Sure! It’s roughly 12” Wide x 9” Tall -
Hope that helps. Fits perfectly in a Detolf Curio Cabinet like mine.
