I wonder if they added frame gen options if it would be better. The game engine doesn't even know the difference because latency is basically the same.
Check out pureDark's mod for this - You can add all above as well as frame generation. I've been playing it ultra modded with Xess 1.3 and its fantastic to really push the visuals
I been using it while playing on high textures with other stuff medium on 18 watts and yea! Its good its inconsistent as heck and capping the frames to 90 dosent seem to apply to it but it went from 30-50fps without to 70-90+fps in open areas and 35-80 fps in congested enemy riddled areas (yea i know what a wide range ) but stops it from going 30 & below In short i been playing 1080p high/med in 18 watts not plugged in
The half FPS bug doesnt affect the SD LCD, just the SD OLED (a Proton hotfix was just released to fix that). For better performance on the Ally on Windows, run F4 using dxvk dropped into the games directory; it optimises the ridiculous amount of draw calls the game makes, when using the Vulkan translation layer, which is mostly what tanks performance in DX11. Its the diff between hitting 60fps at 15W w/o vs 60fps at 12W w/.
Fallout tale of two wastelands is an awesome mod that combines FONV and FO3 together into one game. Might not work on steam deck but it's fun way to play both game with new Vegas mechanics.
Why don't you try 1080p 60fps high in handheld? These games and systems have serious bottlenecks that cause low settings in a game to run the same or worse than the game running on high. You can also get higher minimum frame rate by locking the game to 60 or 45 as the chip would be running cooler not having to put every frame that it can all the time.
I had Fallout 4 uninstalled and on a backup drive. I'm currently installing it and downloading the new update to see how well it will run on my current rig.
Not once was the GPU fully flexed in this video, I think it peaked at 92% on Fallout 4. The game is CPU bound here, badly but enough for 60 fps at least.
I wonder what the FPS would have been on top of the Corvega Assembly Plant and/or the entrance stairs into Diamond city. Those are two places that make the FPS go down HARD on lower end hardware.
The Deck Oled is capped at 90 fps, full ultra settings 800p for a 10 - 11W TDP settings. But the deck feels way better at lower TDP than Ally and consor. No reason to put more than 20W on steam deck either. 20 - 30W as barely any effect.
For the moment I'm playing FO4 unmodded. You have to give the creators time to patch them now that Bethesda updated the game and broke who knows what. Which is sad because I had the game running better on the Steam Deck with more then 100 mods vs my living room PC with nothing more then the unoffical patches.
@@Lo-Zipper 4 months late but as someone who owns both. They are both fantastic. The steam deck is less powerful but much more stable. The Ally with a bit janky but runs more demanding games.
to be honest, the performance is good enough, if you're already wanting to play it, just play it and try it yourself, youll know within minutes if it's good or not
If you take and turn god rays down to low and turn down shadow distance to medium or high you will get around 60. Of course it's fallout so there are tons drops but other than that it's not bad

I have mine running Fallout 4 on the silent 10w mode, I can get it to run between 30-50 fps but it gives me two hours plus on the battery compared to 1hr when at 15w mode.
Huhh??? that update has been around for 6 months I'm sure. You NEED to keep your Ally updated because any updates at this point only increase performance and features for the better
so im a big modder if i get one of these can i mod my fallout4 like pc? is it basically windows like on a pc where i can just download vortex and start downloading? my steam deck is hard to mod like my pc so i want something to have for all my modded games.

I’ve been playing FO76 at 720p ultra settings on the Ally and am getting around 45fps. I’ve noticed with FO76 higher graphics is better than higher frame rates. On lower settings the game just looks ugly.
the hiks or lags in fallout 4 is not Asus Rog Ally fault is the game engine this happens even in good and great gaming pcs. the devs of this game dont put much effort on that and top of all if you add mods to the game get even worst. so dont get mad a your portable because the real problem is the game not your asus rog ally. i say this because i see a lot of videos from fallout 4 on steam, Asus and other handhelds and people complaining but what they dont understand is the engine of this game i so old that we dont understand how this company continue using that old engine look the engine is flexible but they dont care to update it at all.

howcome the higher res and the lower settings instead of the other way around? whats the reason you do that (do you change the res ingame only or in windows aswell?)
The 3D fallout games have the RTC tied to frame rate, so you want to run 30/60 FPS, any higher and you can promote game crashes, bugs, weirdness, etc.
I wonder if they added frame gen options if it would be better. The game engine doesn't even know the difference because latency is basically the same.
I'm surprised they didn't add FSR, DLSS and XeSS. It could have helped on weak PCs.

Why not use fluid motion frames? It's a huge new perk.
It’s a limitation of how drivers are shared with OEMs. So, ASUS will need to update their AMD drivers. Nvidia owns their updates. Just a little quirk.

Honestly, there is no point in running Fallout 4 at more than 60 fps as the game wasn't designed for high framerate and it glitches.
Fallout tale of two wastelands is an awesome mod that combines FONV and FO3 together into one game. Might not work on steam deck but it's fun way to play both game with new Vegas mechanics.

You have to cap the framerate to a maximum of 60fps. Even after the update, the physics are still tied to the framerate.
Great video again. Is there an upcoming video about AFMF on the Ally and its impact please?

One of the ssd load time mods is a must, I had never played FO4 on my current rig and every load screen was 3-5 minutes of wait time.
Not once was the GPU fully flexed in this video, I think it peaked at 92% on Fallout 4.

Fallout 4 isn't really that cpu intensive ( and ryzen Z1 extreme is more powerful than most cpus from 2015), it's just an engine quirk.

Fallout 4 behave on steam deck very well actually, and after last update especially
I wonder what the FPS would have been on top of the Corvega Assembly Plant and/or the entrance stairs into Diamond city. Those are two places that make the FPS go down HARD on lower end hardware.
I wanted to see this game running on the Ally in the 120hz@VRR@40fps mode, to see if it runs smooth as it runs on PS5.
I would concur that if you haven't played a Fallout game, you should try New Vegas first.
