    To the people asking about what will happen after the expiration:
    "The tenant and Power BI are still there. You just loose the items that come with E3/E5. Doesn't stop Power BI though. If you went the E5 route, you would lose the Power BI Pro piece but still have the Power BI free license assigned."

    Since I've taken several PBI courses, I've used the MS Office E3 method. Once that was used up, I set up tenants/users in Azure AD. I'm maybe on my 4th pro trial. Yes, I've been at this for over a year but DAX has been compared to a course in physics, conceptual rather than procedural. This video was so direct to the point, it's been a life saver.

  • @goldylock

    so u still have to pay for AZURE PORTAL? essentially you can't create powerBI account for free with your personal email?

  • @wexwexexort

    So, there is no workaround. You basically generated a work email somehow.

  • @Marcel-dt5du
    @Marcel-dt5du 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Q: How to sign-up w/o work email?
    A #1: Use your work email.
    A #2: Create a work email.
    IMO only #3 is legit, since creating an Azure subscription is/remains free, and behind the user that is added in AD, there's no outlook/office license underlying it. Also this is the only way you can pay only for power bi Pro and not an office plan at the same time.
    Also, the catch you're referring to about being able to purchase licenses in your tenant _only_ with accounts created in that tenant is golden information.
    When I created an Azure subscription with my personal @outlook.com account (which became subscription owner), I had to create a support ticket to find out why I cannot purchase additional resources using that account

    • @GuyInACube
      @GuyInACube  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah i should have called out that my preference is really #3 as it is cleaner also. technical #2 will create the azure ad sub and get you the same thing. the E5/E3 trial will run out, but the AD tenant will still be there and you can get to it from either Portal.office.com or portal.azure.com. Technicall you can use the portal.office.com with #3 as well. You aren't paying for any of it.

    • @GuyInACube
      @GuyInACube  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Appreciate the comment Gaurav! Someone else commented on that as well. The free part is public data though. And, technically you can do that with Power BI as well, you just can't use a personal email address. I get that it is a pain to have to set up something like this, and seems unnecessary, but that is the direction that Microsoft chose to go. Of note, the items I called out in the video don't cost anything.
      Make sure you make your voice heard to the engineering team at ideas.powerbi.com.

      Hi gaurav. While I see your point, most companies still use Power BI because it's more secure for confidential data sharing within the organization. The main reason I need this tutorial is because I want to explore Power BI on my own without the shackle of work/school e-mail requirement. Cheers!

    Bottom line is that you have to submit a credit card to "validate" who you are to MS. Apple did this at one point and they eventually changed.
    I'm not going to submit a CC for something I"m trying for free. MS, don't offer it free and then require a CC for "verification". Nobody wants to offer their CC when they don't even know if the product will meet their needs.
