Love this video! Older wooden boats deserve the love and respect to the concept of keeping them sailing. It's not about money. Owners who ascribe to this vision and who are willing to pass their boat along to those who keep the spirit alive deserve a special place in our nautical hearts.
What a special couple Nica and Jeremy are. The quiet passion they have for taking an old tired boat and giving it a new life. It speaks volumes of a person's character. Victoria's legacy lives on in Arabella, Annie's boat from the puppy pound.......
This boat reminds me of my teenage years and trips, three years running, on a 50ft o/a wooden Bermudan sloop, Laurence Giles design, which was built in Appledore, Devon, UK (Bristol Channel) in the late ‘30s. She won the Bristol Channel Race soon after she was built. I had one trip to the Channel Isles and Brittany, one down the South Coast & finally Norway, where we left the boat for a bit of a rebuild. Sailing on the south coast of Norway was superb. A solid comfortable boat leaving me with some wonderful experiences and memories. Martin, South Wales.
I spent my hi school years as a member of sea explorer crew #566 out of Long Beach, Ca. and later as an adult advisor on the boat. As a kid that was raised around the water I always dreamed about being a member of a sea explorer unit and going out to sea and exploring the channel islands and Mexican waters as well. We had a 40 foot open navy shore boat that was converted into a cabin cruiser that slept 12 crew members. The old Hercules 4 cylinder engine was replaced with a GMC 671 diesel engine acquired from the diesel shop at the Terminal Island Federal Prison. The boat cruised at 7 knots which one of the crew members referred to as "slow forward and slow reverse". Anyway, we had a blast on the boat and really enjoyed our adventures
At first I thought this might be, jumping in post-stream, another awkward boat tour which turned into a fantastic conversation. I would go as far as to say this is a video to watch for anyone who may consider a leap into "rescue restoration"'. Wonderful resource. Not easy going live, the audio was out of sync on my end but in the end it didn't really matter. Company I would drop anything and break bread with. Thanks.
Steve commenting on Victoria being the classic new keel, new frames, new deck restoration. Me thinking Leo's Platonic thought experiment with Tally-Ho.
Nice video. It is fun seeing people living in their boats and using them. Just like any home things are not perfectly organized and spotless, just plain comfortable. Thank you for sharing.
👍👌👏 Usually I don't watch live streams because most of the time it's simply wasted time (because the viewers usually ask the same questions over and over again). But this video was excellent for sure. Thanks a lot for making teaching explaining recording editing uploading and sharing this great boat and story. Best regards luck and health to all of you.
this IS a beautiful boat! Just missed you - but your livestreams are very nice snapshots of this show which I otherwise wouldn’t now anything about! :)
Wow it's just so cool to see people enjoying this life and I am constantly imagining what it would take to buy an inexpensive boat but not being a boat aficionado I seem to be living vicariously through all you guys who are actually doing it I've done the motorhome life starting in 1979 and just loved the freedom that it gave me but I guess I never had to worry about my RV sinking to the bottom of the drink I need to really think about this hopefully not too long gray hairs are expanding daily
Late, but still in Lutherville MD. You’d have to be a 4” fish to cruise up the back creek. I’m sure there are plenty of crabs Eastern Shore, too tired to trot line crab a bushel or 2. We’ll put a pontoon on the 18 or 20’ canoe. Then the 23yo can net as I guide downwind with 1 foresail that I found. So need to make a mast…
Now I remember why I don't use Notifications. Just got notified after the stream. Sadly I sat and waited for yesterday's which (sob) never apeared. Ha. Ce la vie
Cheers from Blue Highway off the coast of NC sailing fast. Met you in Spa Creek a few weeks ago. Will forwards this video to Debbie (formally from sv Beaujolais)!
This sounds like a cool idea. Conservation workers have discovered a 127-year-old farthing which had been placed under the mast of Nelson’s flagship, HMS Victory for good luck. The Victorian-era coin was found when the mast of the Royal Navy’s oldest commissioned warship was removed for restoration work in May.

At 7:28, I love how the oven door rotates under the oven, instead of flopping out in to the middle!

Was that Bristol Cutter in Deltaville Barry’s boat Anne???
He owns one, I think bigger than Nica and Jeremy’s perhaps.
Not to be funny, but there are many many talented people capable of rebuilding an old glass boat…..and then voyaging with it
Sure there are. Here’s the story of a couple of them and their philosophy. Thanks for watching.
