TGM is actually a skate shop here in Michigan. A number of years ago they moved to a different city and started manufacturing different parts as well. Edit: I'm sure they outsource their manufacturing, but with the size of their building. I'm sure it's also a warehouse. If anyone knows differently, please chime in.
Was stoked to see TGM featured here! I was able to pickup a deck from them on clearance for only 35 bucks a couple months back. Definitely work checking out the deals over there.
always refreshing to see you lose your cool a bit, skateboarding can be extremely frustrating sometimes and its important to remind everyone that we all get those feelings 🤙
For anyone who sweats a lot I recommended drinking either Powerade/ Gatorade zero or some rehydration packets to properly rehydrate your body water also works but not as much because there is no sodium or electrolytes that you need to stay hydrated
@@Skotbro1 The sugar actually helps your body absorb the electrolytes better. It's why prime with zero sugar is a shitty drink if you are actually exercising.
I worked for TGM for a couple years, the black diamond griptape, core trucks, tgm wheels, amp bearings, dimebag hardware are all house brands. They are much more than just a skate shop/online retailer. They own more brands than that too and also wholesale some of their other brands.
Got my first complete thru TGM like 20 years ago. Looks like they still have great prices on stuff and has free shipping on anything over 10$ which is insane.
I’ve been skating for years and landed my first kickflip a few weeks ago, just helped my friend set up his first board ever and another friend has a board on the way, boutta shred out here with the crew🤘
about stealing, its something that shocked me when learning around different places, most of the places and countries I went to, stealing is a lot more rare and u can let ur phone on a table for hours in public and it will stay here even if ur not near it, but it shocked me to learn that there are places where people will try to steal it just because ur not holding it, its super scary
Core is a somewhat legit truck brand. They basically copy a lot of the Indy geometry. They’re so similar, you can even put an Indy hanger in a core baseplate
Yep! And I've bought them in the US, too. They're solid. It's interesting John didn't know about them, but glad he got to try some. Maybe this set wasn't his style, but they make other styles. Independent is still my go-to, but glad we have so much choice.
It fairness, Having skated since the 90's I didn't hear of them either until about 4 years ago when my son wanted to get a board and I starting looking around. I discovered Thunder trucks after my second complete and rode them for the better part of 25 years without ever considering anything else... As creatures of habit we often find what's comfortable and stick with it. At this point 2 of my boys had a set of CORE trucks and the TGM wheels from one of 2 Amazon complete kits and I wholeheartedly agree, they are a surprisingly good deal
I think I had a pair of Core trucks back in the day, probably 20ish years ago. I may have even gotten them from the TGM Skateboards website. Forgot that ever existed until now.
Me too, I had Core trucks in my skateboarding beginning. Long time ago. In the same time period 2007 or maybe something later. It was my first time I destroyed my kingpin on the back truck. I tried bs 360 Ollie's with the pivot (bs 180 plus revert). I was very disappointed. The Amphetamine bearings. I know them also, from the past. I bought it together (complete skateboard) It was a fair price. But not the best. I usually don't comment. But it gives me a little smile. Because I know the hardware from the past
Nice! I actually have a board with core trucks and people at the park actually tend to really like them funnily enough. Personally, I think that the trucks are decent, although the bushings aren't, so any bushings instead of the stock ones makes it enjoyable
I just got into skateboarding.. and yeah i spent 250$ on my skateboard set up after i bought my first one which was a walmart board. I use andy anderson's 9.13 flight deck with ace1 trucks and dragon formula wheels + Reds bones bearings
Love you’re videos dude you are so inspiring and relatable i watch ur clips before every skate sesh for inspiration also i was wondering how u made/got your bench ledge you skate a lot
GUARANTEE the problems u were having w/ the complete were the bushings & pivot cups.👀 Cheap setups cut corners in the smallest places most sk8rs don't know where to look, and the reason the trucks went from tight to too loose was because the bushings were an inferior urethane, and also the pivot cups were prolly settling&cracking as u rode it. Another thing about cheaper trucks is the kingpin might not sit well and be sturdy enough for the weight of an adult male. Cool vid tho, i dig that u can sk8 w/e kinda setup. These vids serve as PSAs to anyone bound to buy a random Amazon complete 😏 thnx John🤙🏾
I’ve been skateboarding the past year with riser pads (1/8). Found that I’ve been struggling to Ollie do flip tricks etc. I decided to take the riser pads off jeez it has made a huge difference I can now kickflip,Ollie do manuals etc with ease. The feel of the board just feels so more natural to me
@John Hill That grip job on the board is bunkAF. That could be why it feels weird and isn't flicking right. At 13:16 you can see all the air bubbles under the tape. It's an OCS nightmare. 😅😅😅😅 Those bubbles can screw everything up. 💯
those are the same trucks and wheels i had on my very first board, the deck i had was Tony Hawks Falcon 3 Birdhouse deck, I had red and black core trucks and tgm wheels. Spent my first two years riding those. I think theyre pretty solid for beginners compared to other cheaper options
Good review John and hats off to maintaining your energy and creating quality content in such heat. Also, I bet if people switch the bushings in those trucks it would make a big difference. I think pro bushings can improve any budget truck.
as of end of 2023 Elements and Zero completes are good. decks are "Standard Construction", which means they are the same as the Pro decks with generic graphic. pretty sure the board manufacturer is the same and is one of the "Big 4". think Anti Hero is good, too, but double check. Element wheels are similar to a 99a mini logo wheel, trucks are a surprisingly good stainless steel with decent medium bushings, and bearings aren't far off of mini logo either. fyi- the $15 Element "Premium" bearings aren't far off of Reds. Element had some crazy sales at one point, so a $50CDN complete is a $50 complete. got one and like 6 decks. if you are an older skater getting back into it or are just on a serious budget you really do have to watch out for some of the completes. Birch just isn't that good compared to maple, but it's cheaper and "OK", so some companies use it for price point decks and "beginner" completes. pretty sure birch with epoxy glue can be more ok than "OK", but haven't tried one yet personally.
Would love to see a review of the Joslin’s! I started skating this when they first came out in like 2018 or something and I’ve been skating them since! My favourite shoes ever!

From what I have read those core trucks and TGM completes are fairly solid, but the bushings are junk. Several people on reddit said swapping in Shortys Doh-Oh's or Bones Bushings made a big difference.
Tgm, core, and amphetamine actually have parts on some baker and zero completes. I also think core trucks also come on some dgk boards but I'm not 100% sure on that
@@zabukoii8081 Wow. It is hard to imagine they are that common. The closest thing I can think of is brushtail possums here in Aus. You see those every so often if there's a family of them locally but not very common.
