Where Do Bass Go In Summer?! (And The Tricks That Catch Them)

- Summer fishing is amazing when you know where to fish! As temperatures rise, bass follow predictable patterns. Once you know where to find the bass, catching them is easy! Even when Summer temperatures are at their highest, bass behavior can be predicted and you can keep catching fish consistently.
For those that don't know where to look, Summer bass fishing is tough. Here's what you need to know... Since the spawn, the bass have separated into two distinct groups. The first group goes shallow into cover and the second heads out to main lake structures. The shallow fish are fun because you can target them with a variety of power fishing techniques. The fish on outside structures group up around current when available and hard bottom when the water is calm. These fish can be caught on a variety of lures and tend to feed in aggressive "bite windows".
Below you'll find links to the key baits we discussed in the video. We've also included details on size and color for each lure, as well as some great budget-friendly rod and reel combos for fishing these baits affectively. All the links go directly to Tackle Warehouse where you can see detailed photos and descriptions of each.

Happy Father's Day, Tim and Matt!!!🎣👔🎉
Always perfect timing for work 😅
Happy belated father's day and for the great videos thank you guys
Thank you Tim,i needed this video today ❤️👊
I needed this video today I got skunked last week, hopefully I'll do better tonight 😬
Only last week? (I've been fishing for a year and caught a whole 5 fish... just bought a kayak though, so maybe I can catch some now)
Stick with it bro !!! I won the local derby a few weeks back, the mayfly hatch is what has the fish all screwed up I think
Keep with it! I started fishing during covid and I think I caught one bass my entire first year. Now 4 years later I catch a limit almost every time I go out, the learning curve is steep
BFS will change those days
@@ReactionGiants BFS is one of those things that I want to get into but it's very overwhelming and I don't know where to start or anything.... and I don't have much money, being a fresh high school graduate and all
I caught four today at a pond using a Junebug T-mac on a Canterbury head. Crazy how much confidence I have in that bait just from how much yall talk about it!
博主的发音十分清晰👍我的英语不是很好,但可以用字幕的自动翻译来理解博主的意思
Different subject: I'd like to thank Tim helping me catch a lot of fish.
I switched back to the Owner Mosquito hook, #2 ,and my hook up rate went back to 100%
I tried the VMC weedless, and I was getting a 90% failure on hook up.
I got rods, reels, and hooks on Tim's recommendations and they are always good.
Even caught them in the middle of winter at the deepest part of the lake.
It’s finally night fishing season! Can’t wait until you guys do a night fishing vid, I have a couple of questions.
Night fishing is relatively simple big ones roam shallow. Big Colorado blade dark colors. Buzz bait dark color big 10-12 inch worms dark color chatterbait dark colors. Works all summer on multiple lakes for me
Baits aren’t actually something I have issues choosing, aside from my personal experience I have followed TB’s advice successfully but there is one question I am curious about when it comes to full moons.
@@richardbossman9875 gotcha my bad
Damn, you guys are revealing my summer strategies.😂
My shift starts in 8 minutes 😂
Call in & say ‘your arm is in a cast’🎣
✌️🤟🤙
Bro mine starts in 20 😂 still gonna keep the video going
Never too late to call in sick 😂
@@FobbyThugthen how will they pay for the $80 Sun shirts😭
We’re all living the same life 😭
I’ve been having so much fun using the spro popping frog 40 on my shimano zodius 7’2 ML and shimano aldebaran bfs setup! The only thing more fun that frogging is bfs frogging!
I kept wondering why the two of you looked familiar. I'm almost sure I ran across the two of you either on Clear Lake (maybe Clear Lake Outdoors) or on Shasta or Oroville. These were my old "stomping grounds" before the fire in Paradise forced us to move. We came out to a small "city" on the east side of Bull Shoals lake and fell in love with both the small town and the lake itself. We don't get quite the size as Clear lake but a much wider verity of fish. I've found you haven't lived until you've landed a 3' gar and had to figure out how to get your bait back! Love the show the two of you put on and look forward to watching it again & again. Thanks!
We (my wife & I had Paradise Tackle Co. - jig heads, under spins, hand tied jigs.)
Man, I would love to see y’all fish Watauga Lake.
As you pointed out early in the video, you aren’t addressing 90+° water. Here in NC where I live on a small 63 acre pond, I find many bass in the 5 to 7 foot range with water temps in the low 90’s. The deepest part of the lake is about 20’ but the thermocline sets up at about 13’. I catch 90% of my fish dragging a wacky rig senko. The top water bite is basically non existent, the bass won’t chase down baits at all. I am looking forward to Matt’s “July” video to see what his HOT SUMMER patterns are. Keep the informative video content coming. Been a long Tim fan of your videos!
We need a good vid from you guys on how to pattern Texas Flooded Lakes. 🤣
So, question for you guys, LOVE the channel btw. I live on Broken Bow lake, which is a highland reservoir, and it gets VERY deep, up to 180' in parts. The average depth is about 50'-70' in most spots until you get out into the lake, with shallow slopes from the banks to the depths. Our spawn just ended recently here too. So when the fish split, I know that we don't have tons of structure in most spots, it's mainly flat bottom in 80% of the lake. So, when I'm out in my Yak in the 50' depths, what part of the water column should i target? Also, while im way out on the lake, do topwater baits even work out in depths like that?
I think most of it's just about covering water. I'm struggling here lately even getting a bite on a wacky senko.
almost all lakes are done but my high school state tournament was just won last weekend fishing beds
Heavy pressure has given the bank and off shore bass lockjaw in my area. I can’t wait for fall when the sportsmen venture into the public lands to pressure all the deer and not shot nothing.
It’s like standing in line at the supermarket on the weekends to hit a good point or hump.
Thoughts on southeastern cypress/swamp river systems? Max 5ft across the board.
Happy Father's Day to you guys a tactical boson. Hope you have a good one
Thank you!!
I know I know we love bass fishing but fish for what the bass like every season I do just to get a eye for what I’m lookin for in the chop shop
Tim, I fish the bass mecca NJ. All public an most private lakes get poisoned to the hilts! Come summer most if not all the weed are gone or snot! Yes, docks, but get in line! I go off shore but its been so hit or miss any help would be greatly appreciated.
Should make a shirt (ilpt) I love paddle tails have our own little slang. Cause boy those things are money def gonna hook myself up with the kitec
i live on lanier and usually dont have a problem catching them in summer but always seem to lose the bigger 3.5 -4lbrs. they have a secret cave idk about or something
Most of the time spots are going to be offshore or on points with schools so you kinda have to weed through them check your points and brush piles
Now for large mouths your on your own
Where do they go in a neighborhood pond with a big fountain, no structure or grass (just hairy algae clumps) that gradually slopes down to 12-15 feet? Some days they come shallow and I can get em on a spook but more often than not I can't even get a nibble.
Near that fountain. Most oxygenated waters within the pond
I suggest going on cloudy days when the bass are more likely to be on the move and hunting.
I fish a power lake cooling pond can you address the problems we have with water temps out of sink with normal water systems. I am in north carolina and water temps are closer to Florida in the winter. We rarely get below 55 degrees and in the summer we can have 90 degrees by June
I've been really suffering this summer, barely any bites
Rod for a DT-20?
I am still having trouble with frog fishing.
My hook up ratio is 2 out of 10.What am I doing wrong?
I use the frogs that you recommend Rob that you recommend With fifty pound bread test??????
There could be a few reasons, when they blow up on frog always wait a couple seconds before setting hook to let them get it in their mouth good. Sometimes, they choke it but sometimes they dont. Sometimes in those couple seconds your frog will rise again (they didn’t fully commit). When I am missing some, I find it is usually smaller bass, bigger bass usually choke it for me. Sometimes they also short strike the legs, so taking a little length off legs can help. Then sometimes they kind of smack it (to like “shock” it or something) before taking it. So, give it those couple seconds, if it comes back up then kinda slowly pop pop pause and often they’ll come back and take it. BUT if it stays under those couple seconds, set the hook hard cuz shes got it. I struggled for a while on frogs, but once ya kinda figure out the timing and get that down, itll be like riding a bike.
Is your fishing rod stiff enough to collapse the hollow belly frog?
@@midwestfischermanI made the assumption it was because He said he was using the rods they recommend with braid. But yes thats a very good point as well
What do you do when the water is 87 degrees .
At tactical bassin
Ive bee with tactical bassin since the beginning i live everything Matt and tim have done but the 210 wake needs fixed the durability the bill is a fail first thing it touched busted the bill lose for the price it should have more strength than a strike king 1.5 square bill just saying a lay down no rocks no bank just saying the durability should b better ...
Hardest body of water to find bass in summer...GRAVEL PITS....i swear, the Bass take a bus to the river or a reservoir
Never fished one but the old Bassmaster magazines used to say that the bass would hold on ledges or areas where the sides slid down and created rock piles. Have you tried those?
@@richardbossman9875 I've tried just about everything...they suspend alot in these gravel pits, so I may go out towards the middle & try a jigging spoon...occasionally I'll get a couple cranking those sides as they drop off quickly
In mass I catch them off the bank in every pond every hour
Correct me if I’m wrong but I feel like you can always catch fish at the bank but targeting the bigger ones is where these details start to matter
@@Gio-nl7egdepends on the place tbh... everywhere near me is far too pressured from the bank, so most people don't catch anything from the bank.
its not hot ? lol gonna push 100 today in nashville
