Frickin glad to know I'm not the only one who's into this song..the lyrics are burnt into my brain and I hear it on auto-loop. Also love the playful video.
Incredible song from a great band. I saw them once in the 80s and after they played this, lead singer and songwriter Dave Faulkner said into the mic, "I wrote that." And I was like "Hell yeah you did, dude!" He knew it was a classic just like everyone else.
They were touring with the bangles in 86 and played the Arlington in Santa Barbara. The bangles were a known commodity but these guys were much better. I was in the first row at the side of the stage because that's where Susanna Hoff's was standing. The huge speaker was also there. I now point it out that's when I lost my hearing. I was planning on sweeping ms. Hoff's off her feet with my $27 in cash and my AAA card. Noooooooo.
I love this band my prefered. I will watch this guys in Australia. This year (2023) they came again to Brazil and it was amazing after 26 years they are the same!!!! Allways briliant. ❤
It’s luv me some Gurus!!! Got that wrong once and once only! Said to a DJ could you play some Hoodoos. Bloke said sure thing and put “And we Danced” The Hooters. From that day on I said Gurus only!
Saw em live soo many times. Best night ? A hot, sweaty Selinas , Coogee bay hotel when you could still smoke n drink at the stage. 80's pub scene in Sydney was 👌
@@jcost0099 hell yeah good stuff I surfed the bob hall? pier in the early 90s and I was always impressed by the level of surfing that was happening down there ,very similar to the south eastern coast in terms of life on land
Saw them open for the Bangles in Six Flags over GA in like 1988 or around then. My older sister and I seemed to be the only ones around us that knew the songs😂💜
'My Girl' is one of the most brilliant broken-heart songs ever written. But as you say.....so hard to choose, as all their songs are awesome. I think that perhaps 'Axegrinder' was before its time. That song would blow most radio charts now, considering how overdubbed and over-sampled music has become as of 2019....
coolrunnings There was a band years ago called The Hooters so when anyone referred to the band as The Hoodoos and not The Gurus that person was made to buy everyone else a drink! Bourbon and coke thanks Cool Runnings!
@coolrunnings Yes, love that one too ! I've been on a Hoodoo's marathon the last couple of days. I hadn''t listened to them in ages, now I can't stop : )
Loved this song and video from when I was 12...I’ve played it right throughout..I’m pushing 50...brad Shepard was/is the coolest..the orange gretsch is iconic...
Heard this in The Tote public bar. Nostalgia pangs, what a lovely song. I can smell the beach and a long drive through the Aussie bush on this song, funny how music captures the senses.😂
Ironic, started surfing in 84, I was ten. Plus i bought my first 3 cassette tapes that summer too needles to say my world was changing for the better. Talking Heads "remain in light", U2 "war", Gurus "stonage romeos" / surfing movie = Beyond Blazing Boards
I loved these guys. I already had encountered them on USA Friday/Saturday programming -- They were introducing this song on MTV (you know, back when it had music videos), and the singer and the bass player were on -- and they looked even more like burnt-out druggies than they do here... Bass Player: "Hi! We're the Hoodoo Gurus!" Singer: "On MTV!" Bass Player: "Who are you?" Singer: "And what are you on?" LMFAO. Stoneage Romeos was a great album.
Seems to be an issue with the west overall, not just Australia. America’s music scene is a mess, England still has some great artists but going downhill as well, I can’t remember the last great Irish artist lol. We just don’t make music like we used to, except for a handful of notable exceptions. Oversimplified, mass produced, with a noticeable drop in talent/skill. I personally think Japan will be the next hotbed for new exciting music, even though I don’t care for what they’re doing currently.
Just realized: these guys were in their heyday about the same time Jeffrey Dahmer was in the midst of his killing spree in their hometown. At least from '87-91.
My mum used to call this band Who Needs Haircuts!
Classic Mum Joke
My mom used to refer to the Jesus & Mary Chain as Jesus,Mary, and Joseph
Sounds like a funny lady
That didn’t age well.😅
😆 🤣 😂 😹 😆
Your MOM'S freaking funny for sho
I’m 18 and grateful to have stumbled upon this band
I'm 57 saw them live when I was your age. Awesome song and band
Their first album is amazing, Stoneage Romeos
Saw them in a very small bar in Mobile, Alabama in 1987. Freaking amazing and now going to see them in New Orleans in September! Like Wow!
I remember playing this cassette over and over in the 80s ! What a great band !
Me too.
.... Cassettes!
Same, same.
Absolutely. A GREAT band!
most underated Aussie band with a cult following.
Best Aussie band never to have a No. 1 single
Wow! I’m in a Cult.
I'm drinking the KoolAid
Just PURE GOLD.
One of my regular albums in high school (way back)
Frickin glad to know I'm not the only one who's into this song..the lyrics are burnt into my brain and I hear it on auto-loop. Also love the playful video.
13 & learning how to surf while listening to the Hoodoo Gurus. " Beyond Blazing Boards " greatest surfing video ever "!!!
Can't get hold of beyond blazing boards anywhere!!
100 percent. Sure do miss Chris Bystrom, he stayed at our house in Hawaii in the 80s and was a great man.
Never gets old.

The background reminds me of that 70's show "The Land of the Lost."
I love this band my prefered. I will watch this guys in Australia. This year (2023) they came again to Brazil and it was amazing after 26 years they are the same!!!! Allways briliant. ❤
Great live, which is always a good sign
Luv me some Hoodoos!!!
40 years on,still love this shit!!!!!
It’s luv me some Gurus!!!
Got that wrong once and once only! Said to a DJ could you play some Hoodoos. Bloke said sure thing and put “And we Danced” The Hooters. From that day on I said Gurus only!
Love this band forever they will always be my Band and in my Heart Forever

The greatest video ever made.
Good song too.
I think I may have seen them over 20 times in my youth. Never gets boring
One of my fave forgotten videos. I always thought drummer was the coolest !
You are such a brave man luke you are amazing💜hey from Australia👋
Beyond blazing boards ,Occy doing the sequence at Bells, classic
that surf flick is what introduced the Gurus to me! I was sitting in a surf shop in Corpus Christi TX glued to the screen
@@jcost0099 hell yeah good stuff I surfed the bob hall? pier in the early 90s and I was always impressed by the level of surfing that was happening down there ,very similar to the south eastern coast in terms of life on land
Our fav Guru song from the great debut album Stoneage Romeos! Thanks for the inspiration.
Saw them at The Palace after this album was released. I’ll never forget this album or that concert. Good times.
Saw them recently in Boston. Still rockin.
Damn, how did I miss that?!
Because back in the day, you'd have heard the show advertised on 'BCN@@kimrileymusicweeks beforehand!!!
Mars DOES need guitars.maybe in 2024 we can take them up finally!
Saw them open for the Bangles in Six Flags over GA in like 1988 or around then. My older sister and I seemed to be the only ones around us that knew the songs😂💜
Consider yourself extremely lucky! 😊
Saw them opening for the Bangles in Salt Lake City, late December 88 or January 89.
some great power pop songs
My favourite Hoodoo Gurus track....or is it My Girl?
I can't decide....lots of really good tunes from this band....
'My Girl' is one of the most brilliant broken-heart songs ever written. But as you say.....so hard to choose, as all their songs are awesome. I think that perhaps 'Axegrinder' was before its time. You mean The Gurus!
coolrunnings

It's a hard choice, both of those songs are brilliant and Bittersweet is one of my faves. Such an awesome Aussie band !
@coolrunnings Yes, love that one too ! I've been on a Hoodoo's marathon the last couple of days. I hadn''t listened to them in ages, now I can't stop : )
These chaps wrote some very, very catchy songs. Without trying to sound like a moron...really well crafted, well done.
Sun burnt surf memories
Loved this song and video from when I was 12...I’ve played it right throughout..I’m pushing 50...brad Shepard was/is the coolest..the orange gretsch is iconic...
Best video ever, Thriller had nothing on those dinosaurs doing harmonies😂 Legendary tune.
The greatest band ever
I thought I was the only guy to love this band!
Little known up here in Canada, but loved by the select few who do.
Saw them a number of years back when they played at the Horseshoe in Toronto, Canada. Small venue and they put on an amazing show.
This one, Wipeout and the classic What's My Scene. To quote Vyvian, "That's brilliant, Mike!!"
ah, thank you for that flashback - still holds up after all these years !
Hoodoo Gurus never get old.
Great band live ,really turned it on ❤️✌️
Sending a message to myself I want you back ,I'm not getting enough of the digital level ,
Heard this in The Tote public bar.
Nostalgia pangs,what a lovely song.
I can smell the beach and a long drive through the Aussie bush on this song, funny how music captures the senses.😂
The greatest song ever that no one knows about!
Them : " perfect guitar pop doesn't exist

Saw this band several times when they came to Christchurch in the eighties BLOODY GREAT STUFF GET PISSED AND JUMP ABOUT AH GREAT TIMES
Have seen them live many times in their early days.....just Brilliant 👏👏👏👏🇦🇺
The anthem for 2019. Please come back 2019.
Saw them at Krackers, Liverpool 1985. Well good.
This is W-A-Y more than just a great song. It's a FEELING.
I grew up listening to these great songs
There were monster waves of mosh-pit fans at the Selinas show in 86.. it was Guru-mania ! Caught them again at Rooty Hill RSL in 96. Awesome songs ♡
Oh what a beauty, see you at the rooty.... I remember those ads.
Fantastic song
I remember Stoneage Romeos + Talking Heads Stop Making Sense as the soundtrack for every surf trip 84/85
What an Awesome Band
You could be forgiven for thinking this one came out in the 1990s.
Simon F did this one justice, too.
I loved these guys. I already had encountered them on USA Friday/Saturday programming -- They were introducing this song on MTV (you know, back when it had music videos), and the singer and the bass player were on -- and they looked even more like burnt-out druggies than they do here...

Stoneage Romeos was a great album.
Nice to watch all the vids I missed out on seeing back then.
1984, a great year in high school 🙂
Another good pop song from the band only a dozen people have heard of.I'm one of them.
One of the greats
Love this song still 2023. Best decades for music 70s 80s & some 90s
Toppppp
Nashville, 1240 WKDA, also 91.1 WRVU (when it existed)
this chorus rips
Gotta give the bass player credit.....his hair looked cool in 1984.....now that’s saying something.
But what's worse: She thinks it's true
But that's just her (She always was a little bit confused!)
She's not worth the time I had to lose.
Now that's the real shit
BON SANG
Magic
Gretsch guitars!
Who had bigger hair, hoodoos or the alarm?
If this was new on the charts today in 2021 it will be top of the pops
This was my 1987
I was 17
la portada del disco parece una foto de la película el valle de Gwangi...
Simon F
Brilliant song, but wow, that hair!!!
I want Brads shirt, like the Hoodoo"s It's fucking awesome.
Celine
They look like a bunch of Stone Age Romeos.

Hello, does anyone know which is Faulkner's guitar please ? Thx in advance
Hey guys if you want to check out some more good music, check out Silent Decoy
The original drummer was so cool, whatever happened to him?
Spontaneous combustion
