Wake County EMS launched its Advanced Practice Paramedic (APP) program in January 2009. The program works to make EMS delivery more efficient by matching the most appropriate care to community members in need. Many subsequent programs developed and have truly realize the concept of Mobile Integrated Healthcare (MIH) to meet needs of community members in many parts of the country. Some EMS MIH programs use the term Community Paramedics, which is a descriptive reflection of the term Community Policing. These programs have many parallels across public safety. EMS has Mobile Integrated Healthcare. Law enforcement has community policing, and the fire service has fire prevention.
