Along with Samsung. Very tall and wide IMAX screen with Dolby Vision HDR, 48 FPS HFR, and 16k micro LED. That along with Dolby Atmos, vibrating comfy leather recliners with heating, dine-in, and the option for 3d.

A lot of this is theater dependent. Where I live, my AMC has the smaller IMAX Digital (LIEMAX) with the old, hard seats compared to the newer Dolby Cinema with the recliner seats. No contest. I always get the Dolby Cinema tickets for new movies when they come out. Great use of AMC A-List. There is a true 15/70 IMAX screen somewhat close to me, but those seats are even harder and older. So, I just stick with the Dolby Cinema and am very happy.

When I worked for Cinemark a few years back we had similar issues with our D-box seats where sometimes some of them wouldn't load right at the beginning of the movie, had it happen when I went to see Justice League, all you have to do is call the theater and let the person at the ticket desk know it's not working and what seat your in and they'll radio the booth to let them know to reset your seat, usually boots it right up afterwards, btw love the crazy sideways goatee!

XD is the way to go in my area as the closest 70mm IMAX is over 300 miles away. I made the mistake of seeing Oppenheimer on IMAX digital, while their sound quality was great, the seats were very uncomfortable and it got way too hot inside the theater. We have seen recent blockbuster films like Ready Player One, Bladerunner 2049, Dune I and II, Avatar II, and The Northman on XD and all were very enjoyable experiences. Excellent picture, good sound, comfortable seating and air temperature. Our Cinemark turns all the lights off during the movie, you might want to file a complaint with your theater.

My wife won’t go to a theater that doesn’t have comfortable seats. We have an IMAX near us and haven’t tried it for that reason. We saw Top Gun Maverick at Cinemark and enjoyed it. I noticed the film grain a little. We saw Jurassic World Dominion at Regal in RPX and enjoyed the visual and audio but the luxury leather seats don’t recline much. We’ll be going back to Cinemark XD for Thor, unless my wife wants to try out IMAX. AMC is not close enough to me.

FOMO, you're lucky as the IMAX theater in Irvine, according to their website, is equiped with the IMAX with Laser that produces true 4K images. Mind you, this is a digital projection system, so it can't show traditional 15-70mm IMAX movies on film but it can project to the traditional oversized IMAX screens with the original 1.43 aspect ratio. IMAX 15-70mm film projectors are a species on the verge of extinction due to the high cost of film production and distribution versus digital projection.
I saw Dune twice at the same Cineplex theater complex in Canada, both in regular IMAX and under their UltraAVX banner. Since there are no theaters in the major metropolitan area where I live that are equiped with the IMAX with Laser 4K digital projection system, my first screening was on a regular IMAX digital projection system with a 1.90 aspect ratio that is substantially inferior to the former according to the specifications. I felt that the picture was of the soft side and lacked some sharpness and detail while being overly dark.
The regular IMAX digital projection system uses two 2K projectors where the two 2K images are projected superimposed on each other with a half-pixel offset to increase the perceived resolution to approximately 2.9K. So much for the advertised "The IMAX Experience", that's what has come to be referred to as "LieMAX" by some people.
The Cineplex UltraAVX theaters on the other hand use Cristie 4K digital projectors. This second 4K screening on Christie definitely produced a sharper picture with higher brightness helping to bring out more detail, specially in those darker scenes, which there are plenty on this movie. Where the IMAX screening was superior was on the sound front with deeper and richer bass; the UltraAVX theater unfortunately not being equipped with an Atmos sound system

I'm having a similar situation for Avatar 2. I have a true massive IMAX theater, 60x75 foot screen, real film IMAX projector (which isn't relevant for A2 and most movies), but older Xenon dual 2k projectors. I saw original Avatar at the IMAX, it was a great experience, but since then there has been major Cinemark renovations/new Cinemark theaters. Cinemark XD has dual 4k projectors and recliners (IMAX no recliners, and I think recliners may be big for a 3 hour 10 minute movie), still a large screen, 70ish feet wide but definitely shorter than the IMAX. IMAX will probably have better sound and a bit larger although softer image. I think the newer XD projectors will be have better brightness (big for 3D glasses), contrast, and all that jazz. My XD theaters are pretty dark, so I don't think washed out blacks should be much of an issue. I think the overall experience will be better with the XD.

You should revisit this topic to include Regal's 4DX.
Is the only non-gimik of all the crappy stuff they have been launching lately.
I personally like Dolby for bright action movies, but only If I can get row E. The sound effects is the highlight, but not many movies use the back sorrouds and overhead channels.
For darker movies, I prefer IMAX with Laser. It has better contrast and shadow detail, despite what Dolby says. If you can get row J, you eliminate the grain problem.
4DX is good. It just lacks a tiny bit in audio but not much. If you have ot on your area, try row E (or row F if 3D).

Not sure about all this complaining about IMAX seating. The Digital IMAX cinema near me has full recliners as of a couple of years ago. All bit identical to what you'd find in a top end dedicated home theater. Sound is always on point.
Dolby is similarly top notch, but the closest one to me is at a theater in the hood.
You'll get a good experience at either. Stunned people are still screaming "Liemax!" a decade later, but whatever. I don't have a 70mm IMAX option (Most don't), but that doesn't mean I'm going to gripe, or go to a small format showing when I only get to the theater 2-3 times a year at most.
Pick the best theater you've got near you and go enjoy.

5:00 The lights in XD theaters don't actually get dimmed or turned-off until the actual movie starts FOMO.
IMAX is only worth it if the actual film was filmed in IMAX, and even then that's only if you have access to 70mm IMAX.
Not all AMC theaters have Dolby equipped, many just have Prime.
19:00 XD and AMC DO NOT have the same reclining seats. In fact, many Cinemark theaters still don't have reclining seats, and the one's that do only partially recline while allowing leg-raise.

The XD theater I'm pretty certain depends from theater to theater, for instance the one that is nearest to me was designed with auro 3d in mind originally before atmos was even announced I think, 2013-2014, not a big issue since it translates into atmos just fine, if not better than a more intended layout zero complaints in that aspect, bass hits hard also there depending on the movie on play. Also while the seats are fine they are similar to imax without reclining. Light control at ours is better than what you described however they have these exit lights next to the screen also which does bleed onto the screen and I just wish they'd do something about that. Just little addressable things that keep it from being punching at dolby cinema for that 2nd place spot. Anyways, our XD theater is due up for an update at this point and I'm hoping for those reclining seats when they do update it.
Imax I think is better though in 5.1 sound, while an array works very well at having a large sound and needed for atmos, it doesn't help with detail retrieval and imax's 5 very large full range speakers simple brute force really fine detail similar to watching something at home on nice speakers. It's not to say xd sounds bad, they are really good JBL speakers and they are large for theater speakers but those imax speakers still dwarf those and you can tell.

I just went to the large laser IMAX theater and I do see that the visual projection is greatly improved over from what it was a decade ago, however will never be as good as the original 70 mm analog. The audio does not come close to matching the quality and accuracy of Dolby Atmos in an AMC Dolby Cinema. The bass is over blown and inaccurately bombastic, lacking really subsonic bass like AMC. The Dolby Cinemas have ribbon tweeters which are extremely accurate, but bass is phenomenally accurate and deep.

Fomo could you PLEASE answer these few questions. I dont do gaming I do watch a lot of hockey football and movies. I have heard that the Hisense u8g is a great TV BUT
it has a microphone that wont turn off and will motion blur be a problem watching fast moving scenes like hockey ? I also heard that it is android based and can have pain in the ass pop ups that occur how often ?

not sure if this is confirmed but maybe FOMO can confirm - but supposedly the dolby Cinema has a higher resolution compared to the imax cinema. you do end up seeing a sharper picture in dolby cinema?

I live in a decent sized city and have none of these options :( Best we have is a regal RPX. The sound is actually pretty good but the screen (although a good size) just has terrible black levels and is pretty blurry to me. Our best screen is unfortunately in one of those moving seats 4DX rooms. Wish they could get the same projector in the RPX room.

4DX (2D or 3D), Screen X, and RPX(Regal's version of Dolby Cinemas) should've been added to this video.

I saw Free Guy in an AMC Dolby Cinema theater and was unimpressed. The Dolby Atmos sound was good yes, but the picture didn't look any different from a regular screen. The blacks might have been slightly better but not by much. IMO Dolby Cinema is overrated. IMAX is much better, it just sucks that most movies barely have many scenes shot in them on IMAX cameras. So most of the time you aren't watching true IMAX.
IMO the best movie experiences are 4DX and Marcus Theaters Ultra Screen. 4DX actually adds so much to the movie experience and makes you part of the movie with the motion seats and all the practical effects. The Ultra Screen combines the best of IMAX and Dolby Cinema together. They use massive screens (same size as some IMAX screens) and include Dolby Atmos audio. You get the benefit of 3D audio and the massive screen. The audio is very impressive as well, on the level of IMAX. I saw Top Gun recently in the Ultra Screen, and it was glorious, hearing and feeling the rumble of the engines. In fact one section in which the jet fly's over the screen (so the ceiling speakers are used), was so loud, it made me duck my head a little because you wouldn't expect Atmos speakers to get that loud.

for me its IMAX 1for the extra and sharper picture and louder sound 2 Dolby if IMAX is not around the picture is sharper then normal but the sound is lower then IMAX and it has broken speakers most time 3 XD the sound is lower then both IMAX and Dolby the picture looks about as good as dolby but it has black bares on the top and bottom because it not scope and uses the regular version of the movie so its almost the same as the normal theater

True IMAX is by far the best movie experience and it’s not even close. Sadly to many “IMAX” movies are shot and displayed in LIEMAX now a days. So my go to currently is Dolby Cinema. The audio reproduction is next level.

    • @ccateni28
      @ccateni28 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I’m a Big Fan of IMAX here in Vegas
I have a Regal Unlimited Pass and I only pay $5 a film and I see almost every IMAX Film religiously as for Cinemarks XD I had a Great Time watching Halloween but when I seen the film Us I was not feeling the surround sound effects the seats are great same with The Screen but lately I prefer probably to set a bit closer to the screen as for IMAX I set in the middle section and for Dolby Cinema I set in the middle too as for Dolby Atmos Surround Sound it’s Awesome but it’s a half an hour away from my home so I really don’t support The AMC Theaters these Days because of The Gas Price’s.I love Regal Theaters but I wish Regal would let them play The Netflix Films so at least I can have a chance to watch them on The Big Screen for 50 cents apiece instead of Cinemarks Higher Price’s.I got a 4K Oled but in a Crazy Way I still love seeing films on The Really Big Screen at a Affordable Price these Days.Great Video Fomo.

We don't have Dolby Cinema in Oregon, it sucks, infact we only have 3 AMC theatres in the whole state, regal cinemas dominates our market and they only have LieMax theater's, we used to have a OmniMax in Portland, but that format is more or less dead and they converted it to a regular Atmos theater because IMAX wanted way too much money to turn it into a real modern IMAX theater, I haven't seen a movie there since they converted it.
