Long overcoat is the traditional style as people usually walk in the cold then and the long overcoat will provide warm almost to your entire body while walking. Have you seen Peaky Blinders? Do you think Tommy looks stupid and short with that long overcoat?

If it's that cold that you need to wear an overcoat, it doesn't feel right to wear shoes without socks.

I'd suggest a knee length or longer overcoat, because you wear an overcoat for warmth and the extra length traps more warmth.

Traditionally (as in classic style) overcoats are meant to be worn at knee level and even slightly below. It is more contemporary to wear it higher.

I agree. I find the classic knee length cut to be much more stylish, plus if it's too high, it can make you look top-heavy/unproportioned.
