The fact that a GTA game set in LS made the hoods the smallest part of the map makes no sense. The mountains were a waste of space on the map and the actual interesting play space got neglected.
It was made on very limited hardware to be fair and pushed the console to its absolute limits. We def should’ve had GTA6 by now but unfortunately the market spoke and GTA Online became too successful
I grew up in the areas that Davis is based on and the infrastructure is pretty dead on. While most of LA is on a grid, a lot of the streets definitely have some nonsense patterns. So even if Davis was a rush job, they still did amazing work on it.
@@v_Falls_vFigured, That's Awesome. Also These Videos Are Great. GTA 5 is perfect for these deep dive lore kind of videos. Keep them coming, it's got me interested in the game again looking at at these little details.
Davis always gave me this weird feeling that it was once an area where it was lively during the 80s and 90s while still having gangs occupy the area, however as time went on the higher ups moved on to richer neighborhoods and leaving Davis to the next generation of said gang, and because of the constant gang wars the businesses while still being open is suffering as a result, sure it has a local police impound/department but it's not enough to renovate, it felt like a shell of it's former self.
This rendition of Los Santos is pretty interesting... it initially gives off the vibes of a modern cosmopolitan city from the outside, but anyone can look closer and see that it's infrastructure is unsustainable and just falling apart. Can't wait to see more of these documentaries!
Davis is South LA and Compton combined. - Del Perro is Santa Monica. - Vespucci is Venice Beach - Vinewood is Hollywood - Little Seoul is Koreatown - Rockford Hills is Beverly Hills - Morningwood is Brentwood - Richman is probably Bel Air?
For the street errors i think its based on many gateway cities old road infrastructure being replaced since there was a decent transportation system back in the 40s in LA but the car manufacturers came and changed all that hence why many street's in davis make no sense
True. But R* are also known for making some funny street layout stuff on purpose. Like the random signal lights in GTA SA, where there is no junction 😂
I had just finished packing for a trip and I was about to play some GTA Online but checked TH-cam real quick and saw you uploaded a new video…so I had to watch this video first! I love your videos man. I’ve been a subscriber of yours for some time now and this has been one hell of a series. I always love watching your videos and look forward to many more good sir!
Textile city is the Fashion District. Pretty lively place and home to Santee Alley. Lots of small businesses and stores selling clothing/fabric to toys and electronics
I think the reason for the weird streets is due to the fact that Davis was pretty rushed, in the first trailer, the alley you see the guy getting chased by the police in; is where most of Davis was worked on the most, and a rough draft at that point. If I remember correctly, there were some dev screenshots that showed other parts of Davis and how much was unfinished and empty. Mostly being dated around late 2011 - mid 2012.
these videos are my favorite . especially the sandy shores and grapeseed one because i've been writing a small story based in the gta universe in my free time and those videos really helped in establishing some world building lore
I love the lore that your channel and The Virtual Carchive have created. After all these years it's nice to see you breathe just a little more life into the game.
I feel like GTA 6 isn’t gonna live up to the hype. I mean to try and follow up a game like GTA 5 is already insane, but I feel like it’s gonna lack the "soul" that GTA 5 has…if that makes any sense. Ofc I want it to be amazing and succeed, but I just feel like it’s gonna come up short of our expectations. I, like MANY other ppl have been waiting for GTA 6 for over a decade, and now that the release is ACTUALLY closing in…I’m SUPER nervous.
No one else has this style to do a cool report about Los Santos. I like this so much and could watch it for hours. It would be great if you did other reports on other good topics on the island. In any case, you have found a larger community that likes it. Love your work!!! : )
I’ve really been enjoying these videos covering the map though, would you do one for Mirror Park? It has a lot of properties for sale. Also, there originally was supposed to be a third cul de sac, but it was cut from the final game. You can see where it was on the map in the metro stations which is the debug/beta map for the game.
04:36. I like to sometimes just drive with the actual traffic and this exact spot confused me SO much, cause I'm not so used to US-standard when it comes to signs and all in traffic. Started gaslighting myself, thinking maybe I was wrong for driving that exact way lmao
I personally think that Rockstar was pretty lazy portraying “Corrupt Police” in GTA 5. They portrayed is as “Oh… LSPD are greedy and get kickbacks”. For starters, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s department is more associated with corruption, not the LAPD. On top of that, the issue relating to corruption in the LASD isn’t really due to “greed” it’s due to bad hiring practices that led to a significant number of LA County citizens with gang affiliation managing to get a uniform (Cripps and Bloods finding ways into the LASD). I honestly think that if Rockstar had leaned more into this it could’ve been an interesting concept. Imagine if Franklin and Lamar got into trouble and were surrounded by LSSD. They believe they are going to be arrested but it turns out that these Deputies in particular were a bunch of Ballas who had no intention to actually arrest them but instead kill them.
For a video idea you could do a video about the cult community up in the mountains near Pleto bay if you havent already but I really like these videos about the lore of gta 5s community keep it up 😊👍
This is how Eastside L.A. is irl, so Rockstar did a good job. As someone who grew up all over SoCal and has stayed not too far from the Watts towers, it's crazy how neglected it feels compared to other places in Los Angeles, but it makes sense considering they don't got they own Mayor or jurisdiction. Good video tho.
How to solve the gangs of LS: GTA Online player with everything and an entire crew backing them. So basically what could have happened in the Contract DLC when you're going after the Vagos. There should be a gang war update where in private sessions you can literally wipe out the gangs and take LS for yourself or join one and take over LS with them. Would make a great final dlc for V's Online with the finale being a last stand against the cops and military using everything in the player's arsenal now that the gangs are cleaned up and Public Enemy 1 is unable to hide their movements by covering their tracks with gang violence.
I absolutely love this new "series" om your channel. I think they put less emphasis on Davis in GTA V after putting so much more into similar areas in San Andreas. They wanted to play up to the richer areas in V.
Always thought it was stupid they wouldn't let you live in the Davis area online.. or like you said have a trap house you can run a business from.. hopefully with the DLC that involved the Vincent off the books missions it will involve Davis Street
I'm glad Rockstar gave us options where to put our Bounty Hunter business🤗 I put mines in the hood right around the corner from my arcade so it gives me a reason to go back to Davis Street since they won't let me own a house in that part of town
My GTA Online character is a certified Classist, he only lives in expensive properties in Los Santos, like the Diamond and Eclipse Penthouses and Vinewood Hills Stilt House that overlooks his Downtown Vinewood Nightclub, Maisonette Los Santos.

The player characters might also be the final nail in the coffin for violence in davis lol. Seeing as people are always in that area for one reason or another, not to mention the syg location that can take place there right outside apartments.

Yeah also LA is way bigger than NY so having Los Santos the same size as Liberty city makes the suburbs too small in scale.
70% of the map is nothing but desert and moutains that add nothing to the actual game.
Nah, mountains are good
