Love how Sam's channel SEEMS to almost always be these very formal reviews, and then you get stuff like this that's *just* out of pocket enough to be unhinged (See "Digest Size"). Love it.
Somehow you manage to combine one of the nerdiest hobbies in existence with self-effacing humour and a welcome occasional glimpse of surrealism. As well as a genuine love of the best models and a shrewd critical eye. I haven't touched a model railway since I was about 14 (51 years), but digging some out of a loft last year sent me down the rabbit hole you seem to rule. I need to get out more.
the bags of crisps have nitrogen gas in them to stop them going stale, the 3:55 am refers time they were made. I am an retired crisp maker who worked for walkers , but I love model trains in all flavours 😁 love the channel Sam
Sam, April Fools isn't for another 2 months :D But in all seriousness, thank you for the delicious review and I will certainly be trying Seabrook chips when I visit the UK one day. Also, don't forget those biscuits Derails threw in a pack for you once!
Hi Sam, Being a mint fan, I bought a six wheel tank wagon from Rails some years ago labelled 'Uncle Joe's Mint Balls'. Both tank wagon and supplied mint balls were very nice indeed!!
You bet,as soon as they announce Salt and Vinegar Vans Im gonna get as many as I can! There wonderfull...oh and I guess they come with a model van,oh wel...
Hornby are joining in the fun by producing a paper bag that is smaller than the competitors, containing 3 crisps, each sporting a picture of John Lennon and costs a mere 500 pounds.
Rails also did a Henderson's Relish van which came with a tiny bottle of the relish- which is a Sheffield staple and goes great on your fish and chips. That wagon was in OO9 and made by Peco though.
My dad knew and did business with Charles Brook - he had a fish and chip shop first. The name Seabrook came from C. Brook. Their crisps have always been the best standard level crisps IMHO.
But this is a model people could easily use on their layout. The Beatles stuff would look a bit weird. I think that's why people find the Beatles stuff so strange, since there would never be a wagon like that in real life.
Sam, it's February and I didn't eat any crisps for a good long time now but for gods sake tomorrow I'll go buy THREE bags. To be honest sea salted is not my favourite anymore. It used to be when I was a child but now I prefer paprika flavour (and yes, I am team crinkle cut over standard cut). As a swiss bloke, we mostly consume Zweifel crisps. Not too bad, but rather mainstream. Though I'm a bit of a weirdo and prefer Lays chips when I'm in Germany and I see them. However, as someone who likes to visit the UK once a year now, I only tried Walker's sea salted when I visited the Salisbury shops. I remember liking those very much, but this year, I'm going to try some Seabrook ones. To be completely honest those look absolutely delicious. The ideal thickness combined with the crinkle cut is a solid 9/10 for me. Only paprika flavour could beat it for me. But yeah, in all seriousness, what kind of crisps do you recommend? I've heard of Walker's, now Seabrook and McCoy's. Which is the most superior? Just so I know which ones to buy so I can also take a bunch back home to Switzerland. Absolutely bloody fantastic review BTW. Just the kind of quality entertainment I needed on Monday evening. I sure as hell didn't think you would do it, but I'm glad you did. Its great fun and within all the serious reviews, something funny like this once a month is a great idea. Thanks for making me hungry and showing the wagon. Its a shame it's an exclusive to Rails but who knows when I buy something from them this may sneak into my order. Have a good week Sam, thanks for the fun review 😅 it was absolutely brilliant I love it. Though to be serious, the price is kinda questionable. Maybe 15-17£, but considering you get over 32g of crisps, it may be worth it. I can't wait to try these in London when I go there in August
Why sam have i spent the last 25 minutes watching a review on crisps, i want some but they don't sell them in Ireland although Tayto is everywhere here 😂
Accurascale have also announced a new range of crisp based products. Each crisp is loving sliced using the latest laser tech, and cooked individually by a top french chef. They are then sold in a teak box, created by the very best Japanese carpenters, with full gold leaf engraving.
I’ll try to let Chris Broad the Special British Cultural Attaché to the British Embassy in Japan know of this. Japanese taste tends to be a little different so sugar and alternative flavours might be required in any product licensed to produce there. The advertising will be exceedingly bombastic and humorous in translation. 😂😂😂
If Seabrook don't email you for your address and send you a free box then they are mad! I believe the 03:55 refers to the time the bag was produced and the 4333 is the production run. It allows for very accurate recalls if there is any contamination or similar. Great stuff. 😎
Outstanding possibly your greatest review ever! If model trains ever go out of fashion you can certainly diversify into comedy writing and possibly stand up with a railway twist😅
I believe the tooling for the body is the Hornby Dublo tooling which was the very cutting edge of molding technology 60 years ago and mated now to a plastic chassis instead of the pressed metal Hornby Dublo chassis.
Can't believe they beat Slackman's Nasty Crisps to the market! The demand for model railway crisps is high so there's plenty of room for competition. I'm still eagerly awaiting the release of Slackman in 2035, not long to wait now!
I was half expecting a test to see if it crawls. In a curious twist, less grease covering the crisps than the Heljan Ruston 165, so that’s a nice bonus.
Thanks. I am curious what these crisps do when they expire. Perhaps you could do a live-stream in March at 3 in the morning so that we could all watch the crisps expire together.
The potato chip is so called due to being chipped off the larger potato unlike the cow chip that is formed by gravity and the hardness of the landing area, splat. Novel idea by Dapol and Seabrook so nice review, Jersey Bill.
Crisp sound & DCC ready presumably.. for £20. Count me crushing, by 76x (open wagon) load. Your wit is refreshing & it cuts me to the crinkle. Nice one!😅
You would think Dapol could do something about their wheelsets, even on a”bargain wagon”. The paint should have been a little better as well, missing the vents like they did is almost inexcusable, it’s so simple to do a good job and it doesn’t take that much longer. It will be interesting to see if more Seabrook products show up on freight vans. Maybe more snack manufacturers will come out with rolling stock as well. Over here we call them chips, and what you call chips we call fries, thanks again for a very entertaining, and somewhat whimsical review.
Seabrook used to do a nice Canadian Ham flavour , not sure if they still do . A pint of Tennants pilsner and 5 bags of Canadian Ham was a wonderful start to night in the pub during the late eighties . .
I watched a 30 minute review on a bag of potato chips, excellent content, can’t wait to see more chip or crisp reviews on your channel, might need to rename the channel to Sam’s crisps
I coincidentally got a bag to have with my lunch. Different brand but same flavor, so I did some comparison during your review of Seabrooks'. After some very precise compare-and-contrast work, you've sold me on Seabrooks.
The van (box car) should have openable doors and small boxes with the Seabrook logo on them inside, simulating a shipment of crisps ready for plastic OO-scale people to eat. Leave the van at the station, and - in between review videos - move the station figures just a little bit closer to the parked van. By the last video of this year (2025) all the station figures should be modeled pushing and shoving their way into the van for free treats. 😀
I love me some crisps and all, but I had no idea they needed a crossover with model trains. Usually I wouldn’t eat crisps whilst touching my models for fear of getting grease all over them.
Just for clarity the weight is not inaccurate. The 'e' after the weight declaration indicates that Seabrook are using the average weight system. This also means you could have less than the 31.8g (up to a lower limits) and the weight would still be fine.

Did not know what to expect from this, but funny and different from usual. I wonder if you could fit Hornby or Bachmann wheels to the wagon would that fix the wobble. Some very light weathering might improve or make the cosmetic imperfections seem more deliberate. These branded wagons would make a less serious layout more fun, I am tempted but not in the market for new rolling stock just yet.
No doubt there will soon be an internal memo from the Marketing Director at Hornby to his (or her?) product development colleagues - "Have you thought about adding a pack of crisps when doing another run of our old cheap models to get a better review from Sam's Trains?"

Are those crisps DCC Ready? What decoder "chip" does it use?
Only 8 pin I think

Depends on how many functional teeth the consumer has and the type of dental accessories you have.

The print work on the bag is beautifully done, no over spray and no visible glue.
Haha
the bags of crisps have nitrogen gas in them to stop them going stale, the 3:55 am refers time they were made. I am an retired crisp maker who worked for walkers , but I love model trains in all flavours 😁

What a wonderful bit of silliness

But it is a real product…
And a real review, technically!
*crisps, not chips
Living in Sheffield, getting the Henderson's relish from rails of Sheffield with the mini bottle was immensely satisfying
I had to open a bag of chips while watching. Quite an interactive video. I approve.
*crisps. 😉
@@Eric_Hunt194 no, its chips.
@@trainfan998 if you're american maybe, in england they're crisps, chips are what americans call fries
@@Eric_Hunt194 If the snack is made of corn, are they "corn crisps" or "corn chips"?
@@SueBobChicVidWe call them corn crisps or tortilla crisps usually.
Your videos are just so professional looking. Keep up the great work😊
Is there an outtake where you fail to eat the crisp?
This amazing review has inspired me to feed Seabrook crisps to my Class 40, I'm sure it will like that.
Oh come on, it's already got a hat stuck in it, please not crisps now
Good one Sam...nice to have a chuckle now and again. Cant be serious all the time.
21:48 Sam giving us Food ASMR was not on my bucket list this year 😂
Best video of the year! My bag must have been damaged in the mail because upon opening, a lot of the smaller detail fell out...😢
I genuinely love this kind of content, strange yet train related, and with a crisp-y side.
Hi Sam, Being a mint fan, I bought a six wheel tank wagon from Rails some years ago labelled 'Uncle Joe's Mint Balls'. Both tank wagon and supplied mint balls were very nice indeed!!
This is genuinely the best advert I’ve seen for any crisps, ever. Seabrook owes you a favour Sam!
Excellent video Sam, very entertaining!
You bet,as soon as they announce Salt and Vinegar Vans Im gonna get as many as I can! There wonderfull...oh and I guess they come with a model van,oh wel...
I was disappointed that salt and vinegar were not included accessories and a toothpick as well at this price point.
Its a shame the James Gin tanker didn't come with a free bottle of James May Gin 😂😂😂
Be thankful that a Tesla Truck wasn’t included. 😂
The fact you genuinely reviewed the bag had me laughing 😂 top job
Do the Crisps come with sprung buffers?
I did find a buffer in the bottom of the bag yes!
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
@@SamsTrains I always wondered what they put in those Chrisps/Chips... 😀I never would have guessed buffers... 😀

Perhaps they will be deeply discounted when the crisps go stale.
CRISP SCIENCE!
Ok. I'm buying 2 of these for both the freight cars and the potato chip.
That was a good exhibition / historical brawl last evening ( Cape Cod time zone ) . Can not wait for the 16th . . .
*goods van
*crisps
Came for the van, stayed for the crisps. Such a strange collaboration but it produced a cool looking van. Great video as always!
I thought Rails did this because Seabrook is a (West) Yorkshire Brand (Bradford) and Rails are South Yorkshire.
Rails also did a Henderson's Relish van which came with a tiny bottle of the relish- which is a Sheffield staple and goes great on your fish and chips. That wagon was in OO9 and made by Peco though.
No, they are doing it because they know that some people will buy anything. A fool and his money…
Such a brilliant spoof on a normal review.. you need to have watched several to appreciate fully.
My dad knew and did business with Charles Brook - he had a fish and chip shop first. The name Seabrook came from C. Brook.
Their crisps have always been the best standard level crisps IMHO.
I hope to be fair you review some more crisps.
This almost feels like a April fool video Sam lol. Would they ship a bag of crisps to the US? If so I'll take two of these.
Cheers Jasper & Willow
I also have derailments due to track rising......I'm getting cheesed & onioned off.......trains need a good barbecuing....lol
Great light-hearted attitude!
Maybe remember that next time you criticise Hornby's Beatles-themed stuff?
It's all just a bit of fun...
But this is a model people could easily use on their layout. The Beatles stuff would look a bit weird. I think that's why people find the Beatles stuff so strange, since there would never be a wagon like that in real life.
Hornby's Beatles stuff is ancient 45+ year old tooling with no potential. The vans here could be weathered up to look realistic a la private owner

I really don't get Dapol's mindset. They have made some really good stuff like their 14ton tank wagons and then they bring out ... These.
Hey Sam, just wondering, do you have any idea why the lights on all my accurascale locos don't come on on my gauhemaster combi until speed 30 ish? Thanks jack :)

So what have we learned from this very detailed rating/examination of the Seabrooks crisp bag/deploy wagon?.
[a] A very expensive bag of crisps [ £ 20 ] with free dapol wagon
[b] crinkle cut means more cross-sectional area for frying fat and salt to stick to.
[c] Watch as sams blood pressure goes up by 5% [ its the salt ]
[d] Both Seabrooks and Dapol laugh all the way to the bank the former sells a pkt of crisps and the latter a 3rd rate wobbly wheeled wagon not painted very well which helps clear some of the stock space that's built up.
