That’s true commitment to a dying craft. I have a favorite pair of cowboy boots I bought 45 years ago that I’ve held on to that need new soles. Makes me want to make a 600 mile road trip…
Now that’s awesome. I’m glad you all let me know that your dad use to use him for shoe repairs. I am sure that he would thank you for his business and your comment. Thanks for watching
Love that sweatshirt. He's all American rocker with a red, white, and blue electric guitar on the front. Leather repair is a priceless art. Had many of my expensive horse tack fixed by our local cobbler who passed away. Great old shop he had too, filled with antiques. 👢🥾
I could listen to that gentleman talk for hours. I love the older stories. Life was way more simple back then. But family sure did have to sacrifice to make money.
Wow another great one Brother my Wife & I love everything you do keep the blessing coming. You are the reason we are going to Kentucky this Spring first stop will most definitely be the Brooks store such a lovely Lady with a great spirit. My wife loves her and has got to meet outstanding Lady again keep the blessing coming Brother 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍
Thank you so much for your kind comment. I love what I do and meeting new people. Here is the website and address information on RM Brooks Store. Thanks for watching God Bless you also
The building looks like it is covered with the old sheet metal stone. I have wondered during what years that was produced. It is great to see a craftsman still working. Hard to even find shoes today that will last long enough to be repaired.
I love in Connecticut where there is no place to get shoes repaired. I try to do my own now. Robert Chadwell has a valuable skill. Love seeing his machinery and listening to his stories.
I’m 82 and remember getting my shoes resolved. Loved watching them stretch the shoes on forms and tacking little nail where needed. The owner told me to takes a biscuit, open it and rub on my patent leather shoes to shine them. ( that word should be re-soled). This lovely man has made a fine living. So many wonderful crafts being lost.🎉
Morning Mr. Chadwell & Mr. Ward ! Really Enjoyed This Episode. Fond Memories In That Shop, A Lil Back History Of My Gramp's He & Granny Came Here To The Maritimes InCanada From Overseas In Wales In 1915, Mother Was Born In 1919 Gramp Was A Cobbler 'Till He Passed, Had A Great Reputation For His Cobbling Skills ! Still Have His Shoe Stand ! Thanks Again Friend ! ATB T God Bless
When I was little, our local shoe store repaired as well as sold shoes. I remember Mr. Morefield had a shop in the back where he worked on shoes. Now I repair my shoes with Loctite super glue.
Need to get more on this old timer. The shop in my town burned to the ground around 8 years ago. Only one I ever been to that did shoes and sold guns. God bless America
Oh I’m sorry about that. That’s sad.I will try and get back over there and film more, right now my plate is a little full with more new videos coming your way. Thanks for watching
Here in the UK 🇬🇧 there are lots of cobblers there was a very small one in the local town near were i live near the castle. He just retired but had no one to take it over they also do the key cutting at most cobblers as well.
What an interesting guy! Love his sweatshirt and gold jewelry. He’s a great storyteller. We had a shoe repair shop in my hometown. I always loved walking by it and enjoyed the smell of it. Thanks for sharing John! Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family 🦃
Oh i just love this one, it brought back memories of when i was 4 and i used to go down the lane where i lived and visit the cobblers the old man working away great memories thanks
I live close to the town of madison where there used to be a shoe repair shop downtown. Our dad use to have our shoes repaired there when i was in school in the 70's. It has been closed for a number of years now, but the equipment is still there i think. I can see it each year when i go in to the DMV to get my sticker renewed.❤🙂
I wish more of the world was like this. Hardly anyone fixes anything anymore. It’s either remove and reinstall a new part or throw it away and buy all new
Sadly in these days most shoes don't have any thread in them. they are glued together. I grew up in the 60's and 70's into a young adult in 1976. I shined shoes in my home town of 14000 back then. Only 4800 now. rust belt of course on the upper Ohio river. Appalachian foothills. I could make 20 bucks easily in 4 or 5 hrs just going into the clubs on Saturday and Sunday afternoons and that was a lot of money back then. I grew up poor like most but my parents rarely had to give me any money. I had 2 paper routes and my shoe shine kit. I bought myself a brand new blue suede jacket in 1972, I was rockin it,
I’ve known Robert almost my whole life. I’ve had shoes repaired and half soled plus had some gun holsters made by Robert
That’s awesome. Thanks for watching
