This. I'm 41 now, I got a lovebird when I was around 10 or so? I spent a lot of time with it and it was very sweet, but as I got older I'd spend less time with her and when it was noisy my mother would cover the cage which made them quiet. It's been many many years and I still feel sad and horrible about not being better. Wish I could go back and do it different. I try and avoid videos of them.
@@BurtGummerrrhey, don’t beat yourself up too much. You were 10 and legitimately didn’t know any better. Your mom wasn’t doing any favors by modeling that kind of behavior anyway (ie ignoring it). It was her job to teach you how to care for it properly!
Many years ago, my husband actually found a peach-faced lovebird in the parking lot where I worked. We tried (without success) to find its owner, and there were pet stores of any kind within 50 miles where we could get another - no shelters, nothing. So, we bought a slew of mirrors that we put all over the cage and throughout the house. Lucky for us, my husband had an old, hand-held dictating machine with a small cassette inside. Over the next couple of days, he would record the bird singing. Every day after that, he would play the recording from different places around the house, and our little Petey would get so excited thinking there was another bird like him somewhere in the house! We were able to keep him pretty happy for quite a while. Unfortunately, after about 2 years, he got sick and by the time we got him to an emergency vet, he was gone. I'll always treasure the time we had with him. What an awesome and beautiful creature he was.
I've seen a lot of your videos talking about spending time with pets, for them not to become anxious or bad: so my question is how much time is needed? I'm going to see to get this small bird (and maybe a mate for it), but I work from 1pm~10:30pm, and arrive almost at midnight.
Lovebirds are similar to budgerigars in the taming process, except they require more time. If you spend 3-4 hours a day in the same room as it, interacting with it and hand feeding it, it can take between 2 weeks to 2 months. Depends on the bird itself, because they all have similar to human personalities. My advice is doing something called starve taming. Its something i did with my birds, and today they are super friendly with me. Crazy animal lovers will say its cruel, but a person with logic and brains will see the point of it. After a week of your bird settling in its new cage and space, stop feeding it for about 12 hours. No food whatsoever. Then, offer it some food from your hand. Keep your hand as steady as possible, and close to the bird. If its not eating, try again later. If its eating, let it eat until its done. After a couple of days, it should be happy to see your hand cause it views it as a source of food. Starve taming makes the taming process faster, and the bird will bond with you better. After its tame, go back to feeding it normally by putting food in a bowl or on the floor of the cage. Good luck soldier.

I'm just reminding you about sunfish.
Dalmatian please
Had all types of small birds in my teens. My budgies learned to speak sentences.
Don't get any animal if u can't/won't spend time with them.
True ❤️
Just get more birds and then you're off the hooks. It's species-appropriate anyways.

But i love birds
YES BUT I HAVE CATS, I could never 😭😭
I think we are only just beginning to scrape the surface of animal intelligence.
But be very careful as they can be very selective with their owners during matiing periods
