I’m 62. Have owned too many vehicles to count. My 2007 fj with 170,000 miles is by far best I have ever owned. A little sunburn on the hood. Other than that it’s perfect. Trying to ind a great body shop to repaint it. Best truck ever by far.
That's good to hear because I am looking at a 07 fj with 122,000 miles on it at a dealership and looks to be in great condition!
I used to get cars often earlier in life (in my 20's and early 30's). Some had issues in the first three years of brand new ownership. But I got my 2012 FJ back in 2014 (I was second owner, bought with 27k miles on it, for 10k less than a new 2014 one on the same lot. Has just 86k now). Had it about 10 years now, and not a single issue. Best vehicle I've owned. I also have a 2008 Honda Civic with 165k, which has needed some minor fixes (ac compressor & tie rods or something). But overall, no real problems. I plan to keep both of these as long as no engine or transmission problems.
@@survivethrive2468 I have 237K on my 07 FJ. I’m in SoCal and have asked around about a couple of body shops. If you’re in the area let me know, so we can compare data.
Hey I used to work at that Toyota dealership 😂 and I had an FJ Cruiser then, and still do now! My manager also owned my same year and model of FJ and we used to love getting photos of them together, as well as another guy at the dealership with a red 2012 Trail Teams Special Edition FJ. Good times 😁
More used car reviews!! I like seeing cars I can actually afford
LX470 next 😅
I scored a 2012 “FJB Edition” in November ‘22 with 169,000 on it. It now has 186,000 on it and is my daily driver of 50 or so round trip. I average 19-20 mpg. I absolutely love it!
I’ve been interested in buying an FJ as a daily driver. I take it you’d recommend it based off your comment? Any issues or major cons that I wouldn’t hear about from all my TH-cam research?
@@about2rocku I did my research on it. They all say the same thing. The Wizard and Scotty Kilmer recommended it. No visibility. Terrible fuel mileage. Suicide doors. It has plenty of visibility. If you know how to place spot mirrors on the door mirrors. I avg 19-20 mpg. I also “hyper-mile” it when I can. I wanted a 2012 or newer because of the backup camera. You will love it!!!
Look up FJX2000 Productions. He is a wealth of information!
FJB edition, huh? Did Brandon agree with that?
@@studebricker2845 He had to as it’s one of a kind!!!
Just lost my 2007 FJ when a distracted 17 yo ran into the passenger side rear at full speed. Her car totaled and towed away, the FJ drove away. Frame and hatch door bent and totaled. I had it since 2007 and 205,000 miles without any problems. Best vehicle I ever owned for pleasure and dependability.
I just bought my 2021 version, out of curiosity. Do you have any advice on maintenance besides oil change?
yes do not operate it in the winter when the Gov's salt the hwys ... it will rust away quickly
@@mehdiazad75 I had routine recommended services every 5 thousand miles at the Toyota dealership.
Which is probably why you lived to tell the tale. Strong built vehicle 👍
My condolences. I’m sorry for your loss. 😢
The beep in reverse is the rear sonar system. You can turn that off and it won't beep. Thats a pretty base truck. The suspension is literally the same as a modern SR5 4Runner lol
Very cool vehicle. It’s dated on the inside but outside is timeless
It's on a dealership lot and the gas gauge shows FULL, the gauge must be broken
LOL or a new lot person
that fuel sender must be broken.🤣
Almost 300K on my 2007 and still fantastic. I wish I had bought two of them
No oil issues?
My friend had one of these and it drives good 👌 i was very impressed how well it handles
Driving a 2010 with 240,000 on it. In five years I have driven it almost 200,000 miles with no issues other than wheel bearings on the front had to be replaced. Knock on wood will continue as my one and only drive!
Reverse sensor beep shuts off by that P button below by the rear differential button. Thanks for the review!
You picked the right one. Thanks..
Nice review!
A friend of mine has 3 of these. He says the FJ never stopped being produced in Japan and it's now a near luxury trim vehicle.
Fj was only made for the Arab market and discontinued this year. It was no different than what it was for everyone else other than a built in Air compressor and slightly different infotainment options. It was never luxury.
Yes , the FJ has stopped being produced this year , The last edition was only 1000 .
I have a 2022 bought before I knew the last edition will be 2023
Yea due to its size they aren't super practical (since roads are smaller) and more of a higher class vehicle in Japan
The suspension is for off roading from the start. Its Not a sedan. In Texas the State calls it a truck for registration purposes.
285000 , on mine have done all the maintenance myself . Best vehicle I ever owned. It's simple to use and has never given me any.problems. . Never left me stranded.
What’s the most expensive thing you had to upkeep or fix ? I’m looking into buying one
@@dannnthemannn69 alternator
@@dannnthemannn69 230.00
At 180,000 changed 3 timing chains, used OEM parts + pulley, water pump, Toyota RTV a must
@@Grapplerfan wow, that's crazy
200K is barely broken in on a well maintained FJ (which pretty much means regular oil changes). I bought my son an 07 with 222K and it runs and drives perfectly and everything works. There are tons of these well north of 300-400K miles…and beyond. 😊
I'm riding the 49,000-mile 2010 Trail Team Edition. It's a car that I want to keep for a long time.
I agree, definitely interesting in a stock FJ Cruiser review.
Hey Dude, I have a suggestion for the next used vehicle, get a Honda Element, which I own and it has 246000 miles and starts every single time even in subzero weather of New York where I live.
How much rust did this have underneath?
Have the same fj. Year, color and options. 330,000 miles. It drives awesome and have done no major repairs. Rock solid design. I drive offroad alot. Most would consider it extreme offroad. I have a spacer lift and tall skinny tires, 35 10.50 17. Still have original suspension minus shocks and upper ball joints which have been replaced many times. Lots of brakes and oil changes. 2 battery's and a couple mufflers and a couple alternators. Tons of scratches and dents and fairly major frame rust.
Toyota earned their reputation with exceptional quality and longevity. I recently bought an '11 FJ with 125,000 miles and have no regrets. I expect many more miles and years from it.
189k on mine and it keeps going. Won't ever get rid of it unless I can find a manual one.
They have reverse sensors. The original beep means the sensors are turned on then the beeping speeds up as you are getting closer to something behind you. Gread for backing into my garage!
These are great vehicles. I have a 2007 with 250k miles on it and driven daily. Other than the usual little surface rust issues that these are notorious for, it has been great! Cranks on the first try and still rides fantastic.
You didn’t go over sticker and price.
I own an 07 6MT and will keep it till the end, and then my grandson can wear it out.
I have own one and love it! 270k and counting.
I have a 2011 MT- bought it with 98K has 175K now. Super easy to work on. 18mpg - can do just about everything very well. Best vehicle I have ever owned. Does not have a lot of new options, but there are ways to make the FJ better with some aftermarket parts and installs if you want.
I missed the asking price?
I LOVE MY 2007 FJ❤
Hey There nice trucks but the frames & undercarriage get rusted.
Im driving a 03 corolla with 240k lol would like to have that fj
If it says “Toyota” on the grill it will be reliable. 220k? It’s still got a lot of life in her!
It beeps when you put it in reverse because you have the rear parking sensor.
In today’s vi. Bens a fast talker!
I'm the proud owner of a 07 voodoo Blue FJ. 137k Miles! I love my low mileage FJ.. thinking about selling it...But I sure do Love it.
If you’re thinking of selling, I’m thinking of buying. Where you at? I’ve got one with 237K, and I’m serious.
Just hope you don't have issues because those who do have had a very bad experience getting it fixed. Slipping trans and rust are the complaints
Nice to see finally an honest comment .... other than "it is god's gift from toyota"
That's why you get the 6 speed manual, which is way more sporty anyway
@@jscott7432 so purchasing a std transmission SOLVES THE PROBLEMS ....NOT REALLY The throw-put bearing will faill long before the clutch wears out........ // not a cheap fix.... and no one stocks this "throw-out-bearing. Still the BIG expensive issue is that these babies rust faster than a ford mustang... god-for-bid you operate it on winter / salt / northern roads. // Frames are thin tin spot welded frames, that love to rust.?
what makes all these other people dishonest? I personally have one with over 220k and have had no real problems other than rats getting into wiring and basic maintenance. also had a drive line fail but that's because I beat mine up off-road. also think frames? anything with salt will rust you have to maintain and clean off the salt for it to last not the vehicles fault you fail to service and care for it. @@buffalodiesel1809
Love my 2008 FJ 😁❤️
Land Cruiser 200 has kdss, which you claimed to not make a difference in a video
All most people can afford are used cars and trucks these days, you can't go wrong with a used well maintained Toyota
Might be the back window opened when you slammed it, it happens, easy fix.
Yes!
Toyota made a huge mistake when they discontinued this. They quite right before these type of vehicles took off in the market. It's time for a new one twinned with the next 4Runner.
The last few years they were available sales were not very high. They are cool vehicles but not great for interstate driving and gas mileage.
they still make them
@@mr.m325 Where?
I don't like to modified ones do stock reviews for the average folks
Yes it beeps on Reverse😃
I just bought a 2007 fj 2wd locking rear diff, 170k miles in colorado for $7500. It was cheap because 2wd rear drive is not popular in colorado. I have other 4wd cars that don't need another. I thought wanted toyota sienna mini van or a rav4 2wd , or mazda cx5 2wd. But those are all expensive. I put smaller 245/60r17 michelin highway tires and lowered it 2 inches and am getting 25 mpg higway , the same as a mini van, the rav4 gets 30mpg so not greater fuel savings, but the rav4 cant tow 5000lbs or go 400k miles on original engine. This 4.0l engine is far superior to the 3.6l, 2.4l , 2.5l toyota engines.
By turning off the parking sensors that noise will go away.
Also, please don’t rev the engine when it is cold or even when it is warmed up. You are doing more harm than good especially on the emission components.
4Runner used the same engine from 2003 however starting from 2014, the 4Runner uses an improved version of the 4.0 litre engine. I believe the differences are dual VVTi instead of just single VVTi.
Uh, he's doing a test drive so we actually do want to hear what the engine sounds like at different revs LOL
A mild rev of the engine (2 - 3k rpms) is ok, but yeah you don't ever want to over-rev an engine.
How much was it?
$13,475
I laughed at the start of this asking " Is the FJ reliable " Hahahaha. If You find anything More reliable I'd like to hear about it. !!
I love these. Already a huge toyota fan. And the market for these things are insane. Those 2 on the lot wont be there long. Regardless of mileage. I see these on bringatrailer going for 60 to 90k all the time. Those are special editions or trail teams model's of course with low miles. But that is the market for these. Toyota fucked themselves by cutting production on these in the NA market. Still produced in europe and they sell like hotcakes over there too..
You should do a review on the Nissan Xterra Ben
Its worth it if you go for 150k miles or less. As most of the major service intervals take place after that milestone so theres no chance they're been ignored and are generally free of any wear related maintenance. Plus, keeping up with normal maintenance on an fj at 150k, you can easily triple that mileage. Additionally, because of the cult following these things have in the off-road community, there is no shortage of replacement and aftermarket parts available even after long being discounted in all but a select few cases.
The 2jrfe engine bolted on the fjis also as bulletproof as a 4.0l v6 can get, it will gladly take any and all abuse you can dish out. The drivetrain is overspec for its class and can deal with the stress of pulling the weight of a loaded overlander kit, a boat, and your mom.
The fj, is irrevocably the only Toyota that should have seen more than one model year. I would have killed to see what they do with now a decade later.
Yes I bought FJ with over 200,000
Wouldn’t buy any vehicles with 200k
Why not? They’ve proven themselves.
200K is nothing for an FJ or a 4Runner. It's just reached the end of the break in period, lol. My 05 4Runner has 361K and runs and drives perfectly. I also just bought an 07 FJ with 147K and I consider that to be low miles.
How much for the fj
Buying an FJ Cruiser is always a good idea.
If someone buys this Toyota it's needs overhaul make it better
Save it for off road. It is much more fun.
worst truck i ever brought rust and blind spots trans problems etc
Major issues?
Major issues?
Wait for the new Fj...err I mean Land Cruiser 😅
No manual
Love your content keep em coming. But like please like stop like saying like the word like for like no like reason like so much. It's like hard like to like listen to.
Imagine comparing that to a Jeep equivalent. Same age and mileage. Not even a fair fight.
Worst Toyota interior ever
You’ve obviously never driven a Yaris😂😂
It is very simple. That's why it is great.. don't have to look at how to turn something on.
A new car has too much. Sometimes you have to look a minute to figure out how to put in drive.. do collision repair for a living. Get in and out of cars all day
I can’t believe this video exists insta follow
