So if you had a choice to start your team with either one of these strong pg’s in there prime who would it be? (Warriors) Baron Davis or (Timberwolves/Nets) Stephon Marbury ?
. I was bringing my nephew and his friends to a lot of Nets games before and during this time. The Nets had a lot of talent, i thought they would go a lot farther. Marbury was the most agile basketball player i have ever seen in person. The Nets were not in fashion at the time so they would have specials- student tickets were about $5.00 bucks. A bunch of young men, piled into the car and got to watch some excellent ball. -Joseph
This is amazing it’s a shame nobody remembers this stuff. As a Kobe fan it’s impossible not to admit Marbury dropped 50 straight up with Kobe guarding him the whole game
@@markcunningham1065 I played against him in high school and AAU I played for Madison broncos and Marburys played for gauchos .I know exactly what his career was his last 3 was a dub. But overall a good career
NBA commentators were saying after Marburys second season that he was the better talent then Allen Iverson and Ray Allen. I just think stability hurt Marbury's career. Getting traded around a couple times and going through coach after coach really made it difficult for him to settle down.
Man he was just so amazing to watch. One thing you noticed though is when he hit that big shot at the end he was kind of celebrating by himself clearly he didn’t have a great camaraderie with his teammates yet
David Falk represented Marbury during the trade demand. And Timberwolves G.M. Kevin Mchale, didn't think Marbury would make good on a threat to leave to the then terrible Chicago Bulls. Who had the cap space to sign Marbury in the Off-season, but would only be able to offer the max of 56 million. Mchale reportedly wanted to call Marbury/Falk's bluff, but after losing Tom Gugliotta through free agency owner Glen Taylor wouldn't let Mchale do it.
Man, Marbury in his prime was like watching vintage DRose without the hops, but a better jumpshot. Very great player just couldnt run a team. He needed to be paired with another perimeter player that could run the show so he could just focus on scoring. Either that or he should've never left playing with a big man like Garnett. He would've got rings.
Stephen had hops. not on the level of rose but he could get up when needed. videos of the alleys he caught and a windmill he threw down was nasty when he was still playing with the nets.
But most people who talk about athletic ability don't recognize that some people who can't jump as high to dunk can actually jump exceptionally high as they shoot. Because when you jump to shoot you have to be symmetric in your jump so you don't throw off the shot. So it's a difference between total power (for dunking) and a symmetric jump for shooting. That's just what I've observed from playing the sport idk if its right. Also Rose has more standing vertical reach than Marbury if I'm not mistaken
I know it was Marbury's doing, He won't admit it publicly but weeks after the trade to the Nets he called some former Timberwolves teammates and coach's expressing regret over the trade. He may have scored 50 points in this game but his high shooting attempts did not win him any fans from his teammates. Marbury was playing the right way in his first two seasons with the Timber-wolves. Scoring but also getting his teammates involved he seemed to forget this at the Nets.
Name a SG in the 2000s that could defend better than Kobe while still being responsible for a huge scoring load on offense? Funny how y'all hated Kobe up until he died.
And they still lost. I bet nobody else on the nets scored in double digits. Marbury was a high usage player which means his teammates got cold / out of rhythm very easily. Not good for the overall team
NickB33 that was one of only 16 games he played w/ Martin and Van Horn on the floor together because they were always injured. Other than that, Evan Eshmeyer and Jamie Feick were his starters. Bad assessment on your part
One of the strongest PGs ever. No one could stop him when he decided to drive the lane.
So if you had a choice to start your team with either one of these strong pg’s in there prime who would it be?
(Warriors) Baron Davis or (Timberwolves/Nets) Stephon Marbury ?
steph had it all - speed, quickness, hops, the crossovers, heso's, unlimited range on his jumper. Dayum he was quick....
Yeah but he wasn’t as good as Jason Kidd…
@@Diaz23more talented
He jumped SO HIGH on the game-tying three! He was like 3 feet above Kobe's head!
I was in attendance for this game, it was electric seeing this live. Fans went bonkers
He deserves to be in the hall of fame

fav pg of all time...
Marbury giving kobe the business r.i.p kobe ,Marbury at his prime was a beast dude average 20 ppl 8 assists for a career

wish he was playing in the NBA but he is doing pretty good in the CBA.
starbury had so much talent he could of been one of the best point guards ever hopefully he plays in the big 3 next year
He was one of the best PGs ever
Hes just like kyle from the movie above the rim
When he's on, he's on. He can hit shots from anywhere! And yes, Kobe got owned. lol
How? Lakers win
@@ediwow2797 plus Kobe was a SG trying to guard against a faster and quicker PG. People just loved to hate on Kobe until he passed.

Definitely his best years with the Nets.

a point gawd ahead of his time*
The original "hesi god" lol. Marbury was dangerous
That is probably a lot truer than people will ever know ...
Great video..but once again Kobe Bryant showed why him and MJ are the best closers the game has ever seen

chitownmo That's exactly what I meant when I said without the hops. Of coarse he had some hops just not on DRose level.
Marbury hops higher on his shot than Rose. He's getting his feet off the ground on his shot more than anybody I've ever seen actually.
John Smith "Hops" refers to leaping ability for dunking.

Yep. Michael Jordan MAY be the reason he was REALLY ousted from the Nba.
pena que os nets perderam esse jogo
Who was in those Nets' starting five?
Keynon Martin,van horn
A kid from Coney Island
Jordan wouldn't let Marbury drop 50 on him. Lmao.

Those nets teams with Marbury sucked. He was a ball hog. Trading him for Kidd was the best move in the history of the franchise.
He would be a better 6th man like Jamal Crawford and Williams he was better know for being a street baller like rafer alston aka skip to my lou
allen iverson and marbury were bust????
kobe walked nicca
kobe hit the game winner... who really got owned
Never matured as a human in the nba then went to china and played ball and is now in the HOF dicussion. What a life for him

Oscar Robertson though
