    Nice informative video. Although i definitely wont be upgrading my SDeck wifi.
    Recently i upgrade my router to wifi 6, so i was thinking "hey lets upgrade my wifi card and see how difficult it would be". After watching this, oh no 😂

    To make sure I understood this: you added new solder to the six pads under the wifi chip, then put flux on everything else, correct? and by heating up the chip once it's in the new place, it basically just solders itself down?

    • @AstroShootingStars
      @AstroShootingStars  หลายเดือนก่อน

      not just six pad all the side pins as well and the put flux everywhere and then when you place back the chip on motherboard and heat those solder will melt and connect.I hope this video helped. please stay tuned to my channel for my future videos

    Thank you sir - This is the best step by step guide for this upgrade I've come across.
    I do have a question.. I ended up buying an intel AX wifi chip, but it already came un-soldered and all the pads are cleaned.
    Would I need to add solder to the pads on the wifi chip before attempting to attach it to the motherboard?

    • @AstroShootingStars
      @AstroShootingStars  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      yes you need to tin the ports always so that when it is melted all pins are soldered without any miss. I glad this video helped. Please stay tuned to my channel for my future videos.

    Love seeing videos on the steam deck teardown to see the internal parts. Love your video it's a good job you did on the upgrade and installation of the wifi 6e chip. It's step by step and I understand it well, kinda want to try it myself. I'm new to electronics and your video is a good one. Can I ask you on the heating and power issues if any from upgrading the wifi to 6e?

    • @AstroShootingStars
      @AstroShootingStars  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      wifi 6e is more efficient chip and since it is smd it is low power as well. so far i have not seen any battery or heating issue on my steam deck. I hope this video helped. please stay tuned to my channel for my future videos.

    You got a sub out of me. I'm very new to soldering and flux so that's the only parts of the videos that scare me personally.
    In order to get the small metal shield back on the Intel chip, did you just place it on top and heat until the solder point fused together?

    • @AstroShootingStars
      @AstroShootingStars  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      it is not the metal shield. it is the whole wifi module. it has its own base and antenna connector as well with connector points on the bottom and yes we need to heat the area along with chip to melt the solder to get connected on the motherboard. i hope this video helped. please stay tuned to my channel for my future videos.

    On the original wifi card, the M cable was on the bottom and the A on the top, but you inverted them, without explaining the right reason for newbies like me. Why did you inverted the antenna cable?

    • @AstroShootingStars
      @AstroShootingStars  หลายเดือนก่อน

      the new chip is marked with main antenna and auxiliary antenna and it is inverted as on original chip. I hope this helps. please stay tuned to my channel for my future video.

    • @toast339
      @toast339 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Drjacques wake on Bluetooth allows you to turn on the steam deck by turning on the controller. Steam deck OLED does this the LCD does not. I'm wondering if upgrading this chip gives the wake on Bluetooth ability

    • @Drjacques
      @Drjacques หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@toast339 the chip is one of the latest, and it supports that function, but it probably depends on the used drivers and BIOS support. It could be nice if the guy who made the video could gently answer your question, especially 1 year after doing this complex mod

    • @AstroShootingStars
      @AstroShootingStars  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      excuse me for the late reply, but the answer to your question is no my friend it doesn’t wake up the function you have on oled vía bluetooth, may be since the motherboard and drivers are really different on oled models so this function was given on it. but even after mod with new bluetooth it doesn’t have this function. I hope this video helped. please stay tuned to my channel for my future videos.

    How can I find out which wifi chip and model in my new Steam Deck OLED 1TB?

    • @AstroShootingStars
      @AstroShootingStars  หลายเดือนก่อน

      i am not sure why would you need to find it on oled model as it already comes with wifi 6e chip. however to find it its on bottom right corner on the motherboard but on the other side of the motherboard. you will see two antennas connected to the motherboard. I hope this helps. please stay tuned to my channel for my future videos.

      @@AstroShootingStars I think there might have been a translation error.
      What I meant is that the OLED version I have uses the QCNFA765 wireless network card. I installed other versions of Linux (Ubuntu & Kali) on the Steamdeck, but the system desktop does not show the WiFi icon.
      Using the lspci command, it shows that the system recognizes this wireless network card. Using the lsmod command, it also shows that the driver has been successfully loaded into the Linux kernel.
      However, the problem is that there is no WiFi option available in the network options at the top right of the desktop.
      Strangely, the pre-installed SteamOS on the Steamdeck OLED version can recognize the wireless network card, and the WiFi function works normally. I don’t understand why this is happening.
      I need your help with this technical issue. If you can solve it, it would also help the entire Steamdeck community solve this current headache!

    Oof thanks for the video but I think that’s more of a teardown than I’m willing to risk. I recently did a WiFi chip upgrade on my motherboard but thankfully that was just the case of them hiding it but still just using the tiny PCIe slot.

    It is a big pity you did not show how you cleaned, and solder with clear flux the chip, before putting it on the wifi card of the motherboard

    • @AstroShootingStars
      @AstroShootingStars  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I understand my friend, its a fairly simple process just put the clear flux it comes as a liquid and the using the solder on the iron tin the ports basically just rub over it till you see them silver shining and all ports separated. flux also helps in this process to keep the ports separate. I hope this helps. please stay tuned to my channel for my future videos.
