  • Jeff Salzenstein, Former top 100 ATP Player and USTA High-Performance Coach, shares a perfect serve drill to fix the early racquet drop mistake. In this tennis video, he demonstrates in great detail the ideal body sequence necessary to reach a solid trophy position; followed by an efficient racquet drop.
Many players struggle with this concept because physically the cannot do perform specific movements such as pelvic tilting and rotation. However, you can still improve your serve by practicing the half-serve tennis drill.
Here’s a brief list with key remainders for you to take on court when performing this drill:
    1. Start with your racquet in a half- motion position.
    2. Keep the tip of the racquet up for as long as possible
    3. Bend your legs and drive them up first before dropping the racquet .
Serve myths revealed: Former Top 100 ATP Pro, Jeff Salzenstein, is exposing 3 common myths that could be crippling your potential. Most players make at least 1 of these 3 mistakes... Do you? bit.ly/370g4te

This is just best overall way to keep from getting a arm problem too. The early drop all you can do is have to use the arm. Thanks again 😊

Jeff, I'm susceptible to an 'early drop' which causes me to lose a lot of power. Thank you for highlighting this often neglected stage of the serve and most of all, enabling us to fix it.

So, the focus for a nice fluid backswing-motion has to be on the extention of the legs and the rotation of the upper body.

Great video Jeff! This is a REALLY important lesson. I just learned how to use the kinetic chain in my serve. I used my legs as an explosive motion and the racquet drops NATURALLY! Going to keep working on this new “sequencing” as you said.

Tennis Evolution - Online Tennis Lessons I don’t know if this is a common feeling but a video where you describe “not swinging” on the serve? I don’t know if that is correct. Because if you do the kinetic chain probably, the arm will come up naturally right? I don’t know if you know what I mean, but if you do, a video on that I’m sure would help a lot of people :)
