I don't who said this but someone described robin joining as "a bunch of teenagers adopt a grown woman" and it's a perfect description

(SPOILER'ish Territory Below)
..once you learn about Robin's backstory you kinda realize that she never really grew up. She's an adult, but a lot of how she thinks is still very childish, even if a little warped and twisted due to how her childhood went. I like to think that's why she likes Luffy so much, and why he made her laugh during the Crocodile fight. His absolutely crazy and harebrained logic totally appeals to her inner child.
@@Terralventheagreed. The contributing banter she displays with the straw hats is that she has a very morbid thought process that comes off as funny, but is really F-ed up at the same time.
My perception of that is similar to what you stated, but also because since most of her life she was stuck in a bad place she had to hold in all her negative emotions to survive. So being with the straw hats has allowed her to express her emotions freely and carefree since she is finally in a place she feels safe at the cost of filling the straw hats with morbid thoughts.
@@Terralventhedeep down we all have that childish tendency. Instead of not growing up, its more like she never experience what its like to be a kid. Seeing Robin open up little by little brings me so much joy
The oldest members of crew before her are Zoro and Sanji, who are both 19, so this is kind of exactly what happened.
I love Robin just casually going "hello kids, I'll be joining the crew, hope you are okay with that"... and then immediately hitting everyone in their weak spot. Abosolute class act, this is why she was my favorite from the moment I saw her.
Now with Robin joining the crew, Alicia's reactions are gonna be 50% "Aww it's a baby!" and 50% "Mommy, sorry, mommy, sorry, mommy, sor-"
Balanced as all things should be. 🤌🏻
@@LokiLeviah1337maintain the balance of the world
The grown woman didn't adopt these kids. These extroverted kids adopted an introverted woman.
I love the "Chopper" bit because yes, Luffy is making the face and the voice, but it was Robin who grew those hands on his head, meaning that despite keeping her cool, she can be just as silly as them.
Robin is still a child at heart at times, sometimes the show lets see what she is thinking and its all super goffy shit
@@thewindysage1538 She's been on the run for 20 years since she was 8. Of course she never had the chance to grow up propperly.
To think, Robin has been chasing the Poneglyphs for the same amount of time that Gaimon has been stuck in that chest.
Gaimon had a hardest life than robin, no one gonna change my mind ahaha
I never thought of that...wild
@@Imasuky I like comparing the timelines of unrelated events in this series, and Gaimon is my favorite example because 20 years in that chest is just bonkers.
To give another example (spoilers)

When Gaimon first got stuck in that chest, Oden was still alive.
Robin immediately adopting Chopper as her son is one of the main reasons i love her so much. she might be a cold-blooded assassin but she's also just a girl who loves really cute fluffy things too
Robin doing exactly 1 gag and then half the crew being down for her joining because of it is one of my lowkey favorite moments in the whole series
"Four Sword Style," I think is one of the coldest burns in the entire series. I know episode 131 is filler but I think it's really important in establishing Chopper and Robin's dynamic.
It's filler?!?! Damn I didn't notice
@@elroylee Yeah, 131-143 or 144 are filler
"Where does the fourth sword go?" 😂
i also think it helps set things up for later, when a certain event takes place.
@@UltimateGamerCC You mean Punk Hazard?
Robin rizzing her way on to the crew will always be the funniest scene in the Alabasta Arc.
I love the family dynamics surrounding Chopper with the rest of the crew. Like how Zoro takes care of Chopper and teaches him to fight like a cool older brother while Robin takes care of him and makes sure he is happy like a loving mother. It's so CUTE!!!
Gonna throw this out there, the Ussop interogation scene was wild in the 4kids dub. He asked what Robin's specialty was and in order to censor her being an assassin the dubbing staff had her claim proficiency in "Rub Outs."
That's just 100 times worse, the fuck xD
Especially considering 4kids is in the US and sex is a much bigger taboo than someone getting murdered in a brutal fashion xD
I love how when Soup, Chopper, and Luffy were laughing in the background that Robins hands were swinging around like they where laughing too.
Robin helping Luffy turn into Chopper is one of Robin's top 3 moments, don't even @ me 🤣
Yeah, Robin is basically the “mommy” of the group
I love the dynamic between Robin and Chopper. Robin acts like the mother of the crew and Chopper as the youngest sibling. As she told on this episode, she likes Chopper cause he's cute.
So funny thing about Nami calling the shots. She is filling the role of quartermaster and this is fairly accurate to real historical pirate crews.
The captain didn't get to boss the rest of the crew around all the time-in fact, most of the time they were just a regular crewmate. The only time when the captain had absolute authority was during battle, and they only got to stay captain outside of those times out of respect and valor in battle.
The one who _really_ calls the shots and manages the whole crew in day to day operations was the quartermaster, and alongside the captain, they get to have double-portions of loot compared to everyone else.
I have never seen anyone so happy about a fake out death. Glorious.
As a person who has read the manga the fact that some of these devil fruit powers even exist is insane 😂
Its just a theory tho,not entirely confirmed
Yeah, that was Pell. He survived the explosion.
As something to note, there's types of devil fruits, and those with animal types like Pell? Well, they tend to be insanely durable.
in Pell's case i truly believe that Oda didnt want to tie 9/11 to One Piece, as a Bald Eagle is one of our nation's symbols, so a bird getting blown up in the desert would've been a bit too similar. therefore i believe Oda chose to allow Pell to walk away from what should've obviously destroyed him outright.
@@UltimateGamerCCYeah, but it also helped establish that Zoan users, and high-level fighters in One Piece in general, are insanely tough and hard to kill, which explains a lot going forward.
@@UltimateGamerCCPell is a falcon. It’s just a coincidence, Oda doesn’t like killing characters.
yes i stated that Pell is a falcon.@@jibjibs9401
@@UltimateGamerCC The bomb going off on Pell already happened well after 9/11. It would not make sense almost half a year after the attack to retcon his death specifically for it at that point. And its not like he or his readers should have any special care about something like that on the other side of the world well after the fact.
Yep, foreshadowing Robin's backstory is raising all sorts of flags
Well, I wouldn't say "raising" flags...
"Choppah!" a moment of perfection
That "My grave?.." at the end ALWAYS gives me chills. I'm kind of mad Oda let him survive an impossible situation, but this little bit at the end and dead silence afterwards redeems it a lot. Such a powerful moment.
"Everything my body touches will be locked up"- Vice Admiral Hina, the BDSM Queen lmao
Pell survives thanks to the will of P, I can't remember the exact details, but basically either the Manga chapter in which Pell would have died released just before a terrorist bombing occurred, therefore oda decided to keep him alive, he was meant to die though.
Also Oda confirmed that Smoker and Hina are a thing. But it isn't shown in the story aside from Hina's use of honorifics.
yeah, the chapter of pell's death released very close to 9/11 and oda decided to walk it back because he believed the timing was in poor taste
@@aganaom1712 This is never confirmed by the way. Fans speculated about it and people starting believing it.
Oda's worst quality as an author is his fake out deaths but Pell is still to this day the worst one. If he had died there it would be praised to this day instead of criticized. From what I found researching it whether it was due to a bombing or 9/11 or any other real world event is just pure speculation as Oda has never commented on it as far as I know or can find.
Here's hoping Pell doesn't survive in the live action version. XD
I dunno, the manga doesn't show him in the exact blast radius (i.e. right next to the bomb like in the anime) so it's plausable. As I understood it, Pell flew up high and then dropped the bomb just before it exploded, but kept flying up.
Either way, I'm glad he made it.
Aparently this episode came out 21 years ago, Robin joining the Crew.
Fun fact: Nico Robin is the oldest member in that crew. Even Oda said that she’s the mother of the crew.
Yupp she's really the Mommy!
Biologically, that should be Brook. But essentially, yeah, that's Robin.
Even if we exclude Brook, Franky is still older. Altho he does not act that way often.
@@noluckgame7377and brook is stil older…
@@noluckgame7377 🤫
Chopper x Robin interactions are the most precious❤
Robin is officially called the ship mom by oda when someone asked what positions the members would have if they were a family. She's especially mom like towards chopper since she likes cute things
Ah I miss scenes like these where the Straw Hats are just lounging around and there’s no danger to anyone
I love these chill moments between arcs those episodes are so important to build the relationship between the crew
Alicia, Vivi has an entire extra character arc on the manga covers, it could be good to try and look at then if you want to see more of her.
I remember hearing somewhere that the "out of story" reason why Pell survived was because of some sort of real world tragic event that happened way to close to either the manga's or anime's release of what would have been his death. It might have been 9/11 or something else either world wide notable or something specifically in Japan, but I don't remember exactly and I could be misremembering it. But it wouldn't be too uncommon, it had happened to other series/movies, for example Lilo and Stitch has a plane chase scene that was originally planed to fly through the city in-between all of the tall buildings, but then around when they were animating that sequence 9/11 happened and they quickly adjusted the scene so that it didn't feature two planes flying dangerously close to a couple of skyscrapers in a city! But yeah, if we ever do see Pell again, and I hate to say this but, I hope he sustained some kind of permanent injury so that he didn't just get out of that blast scott free. Even if it is as simple as hearing loss or as seemingly invisible like a sustained brain injury, as long as it is something.
The funny thing is you could explain why and how Pell could survive that explosion somewhat based on how durable Zoan fruit users are and how fast falcons are, but you can't really explain the small hospital in the middle of the desert.
Pells death was changed by Oda, due to the 9/11 attacks he decided to keep pell alive as he felt it was in bad taste at the time.
Alicia, I'm warning you now. This is going to be a very long filler arc and it's boring. If you thought that sand girl arc episode was boring, this might make you jump out of a window. If you do, skip it, skip to the episode where the sky pia map drops
Robin isn't searching for the "real history". She's actually searching for the "reel history". Turns out that it was just a spelling error with the subs and Robin dreams of one day learning the secrets to becoming a star film director.
Fun fact. Pell was suposed to die but earlier that year 9/11 happened. So a tower with an explosion was seen as a bit insensitive and dark. So he survived
I always get excited for the new One Piece Episodes!
Fun Fact: Robin loves cute things but she's very shy about it due to her *cough*, anyway Robin thinks Chopper is cute. So, she keeps all of his favorite snacks in her purse to give to him.
23:56 this shows old to me... real old, im 33, i last saw this when i was around 11... id forgoten this scene and seeing it again is somehting so precious to me i feel bad for not being able to repay this ghist of seeing it again... it may sound trivial but iv been unable to finish or keep up with many such shows like one piece, yall wouldint understand why and it doesint matter... but this is a treat. thanks elf gal, you may have some messed up personal views i opose on principal, but your a mostly kind soul giving up these reactions... id have very possibly never seen this scene again before i die otherwise.
Go rewatch it, the entire show. Or are you already a senior citizen
i dont have the option to watch it... that costs credit, and i dont have any credit... means even at my age im reliant of buying online things through other people, if and when theyre willing, i have zero agency in this matter, and monthly yearly subscribtions arint even an option, only one time payments, so... as... i.. said... you wouldint understand and it doesint matter... i cant follow these series... and thats all. now please go tell the poor to just eat cake.... @@jansettler4828
And after the end of Arabasta: filler episodes time!!
That Luffy "Im Chopper!" part cracks my mother every time lol
Here we go: from 131 we will gettign some various filler episodes since they was risking to catch up the manga but all the filler are enjoyable, good moral, good stories and pretty good original characters so i hope you will enjoy them (because in future we will getting more less filler episodes like those...)
That Chopper and Robin moment its original too but its very cute :D
Note: fun fact that the third opening was released BEFORE that the Arabasta saga ended so anime watchers got an big spoiler when they saw Robin in the OP with the crew XD
Its slightly annoying that the sub titles you got are ignoring Hina speaking in the 3rd person.
I dunno blame crunchy roll 👍🏽
the meaning of the flower i think is just being linked to the name of her devil fruit, which i think you will learn the name of soon
Skypeia is near, lest go! To this day it's still one of, if not my favorite arc of one piece.
Mommy has joined the crew
Figuratively & sorta literally🥰
1:40 Hina just arrested Spongebob’s house. It’s the wandering nematodes situation for him all over again.
The Poneglyphs become quite the plot point throughout the series so keep an eye on them when they appear.
if you notice before she shows up on the ship Robin is standing with the crew on the Ad break screen
Mommy is finally on the crew! ;A;
Now Alicia has someone new to fawn over every time she's on screen.
I heard that the only reason Pell didn't die was because the chapter with the bomb was released really close to the September 11th terror attacks.
Luffy: "Why do I have to listen to you?"
Robin: "And I took that personally so now they always listen to me."
most people when pell survives: what that's lame.
Alicia, being based as fuck: he's survivied lets gooooooo!!!
The Poneglyhs are massive cubes carved out of stone with each being a message written in a ancient language. They are scattered across the world, and when all the information is collected from them. It reveals the Rio Poneglyh. This would show every detail of a missing piece of the world's history known as "The Blank Century". A period that has been a mystery for 800 years.
Nico Robin is my favorite member of the crew; I'm glad to see you react to her officially joining, and I'm looking forward to seeing your reactions when learning more about her.
I can’t remember if this is true or not, but I think I heard somewhere that Pell was kept alive because of 9/11 or something.
People might already said it, but, Pell was supposed to die but Pell "exploded" when 9/11 just happened so they had to change his "death"
Yep. Drip-fed answers are what you get for the mysteries for Robin. Enjoy the ride there.^^
Fun fact:
These chapters came out soon after a certain terrorist attack on two towers, so it is believed that pell survived because of that,
Not wanting to kill off a character due to a bomb after a real-life terrorist attack happened
Welp im getting teary eyed already when that backstory is like a hundred more episodes away. Robin is one of my favorite female character of all time, not just in anime but in every fictional story ive seen and read. She is the definition of a perfectly written character
My favorite part about this series and what sets it apart from SO many others is that all the crew feel like people and are given enough screen time to be properly fleshed out. I really wish this had happened with Naruto or Bleach, could have been amazing.
Apparently Pell came back due to the chapters coming out around 9/11
Yep Pell was originally gonna die but due to the 9/11 attacks oda & the editors felt it insensitive at the time considering the towers & bombings therefore made the change.
Thinking back on this, where was Robin hiding all this time? Everyone was all over the ship repairing it from the harpoons, did they not notice her while searching everywhere for holes? And she must be incredibly lucky to have found a hiding spot that didn't get hit by a harpoon.
You're absolutely right how things get revealed in time though the truth hasn't entirely been said yet. Manga started to reveal things but there is still lots of mystery. The poneglyphs will remain a continuous plot device. They're necessary for the journey. In time you'll come to realize the true depth in the storytelling too but the series has a way to keep you distracted until the critical moments do show up.
Luffy really said:
"(brr)You’re suicidal?
(click) You’re suicidal
(brr) You’re suicidal?
(click) Why?
(brr) You’re suicidal?
(clickclickclick) You’re suicidal
(beatbox break)"
I have a headcanon for how Pell survived but it contains spoilers
I think he survived because the Falcon devil fruit is one of the guardian deity fruits of Alabasta, and by "dying" to protect the country it awakened his fruit which allowed him to survive.
That's my headcanon as well, based on info that didn't show up until over a thousand chapters in.
fun fact: the alabasta arc end up in late 2001, so my theory is that oda decide to make pell alive because of 911
(note alabasta is inspire from arabic country and he died from a midair explosion so its coherent)
Yeah boii. We're finally getting into some history stuff. Among all of the things One Piece has to offer, its history is something I'm VERY interested in. Since you watch lore vids on your other channel, I'm sure this will interest you as well Alicia! The more you watch one piece, the more lore bits they give you. Hella excited for that.
I'm honestly still not SURE how Pell managed to survive being BLOWN UP by the bomb. It was a POINT-BLANK explosion.
36:58 monkey to Monkey communication
The Robin-Chopper dynamic is one of my favorites, especially early on

Hehe 😜 this was like the perfect touch of comedy and wholesomeness after such an amazing arc in alabasta. Not to mention it starts the oi oi oi gag xD . So excited for what comes after this
Watchign reactors react to iconic moments in your favorite 1000 ep anime is so iconic
Robin: "I have no more reason to live"
Luffy: "who"
Robin: "Who what?"
Luffy: "Who asked?"
I think because of a tragedy in the real world around air time, they resurrected Pell to soften the sadness of his sacrifice.
In the manga he ded
Usopp spent all day practicing his lie so he could tell his story at the fire lol, that's determination. Lots of new questions, but the important thing is Robin is here! Thanks for the video.
Time to rewatch Alabasta again, for the 6th time... or was it 7th? Will never get old!
It's wild to me that Usopp and L have the same voice actor.
Chat loves to gaslight you away from the truth lol
You're right to assume that Robin's backstory hits hard. It'll be a while till you find out about it though. Enjoy the suspense.
I hope you don't get spoiled about Robin and the poneglyphs and what they represent, because that's where you realize the whole scope of the story just increased by several orders of magnitude.
I sob like a child every time i rewatch Robin's backstory. Genuinely prepare for it when it starts to come up because FUCK it's hard.
According to an interview with either Oda or one of his editors (can't remember atm) Pell was suppose to die because of 9-11 they decided to change that.
How i have waited for this!
And thous Alicia has learned One Piece's most infamous things FAKE OUT DEATHS.
Things you will need when we get to Robin's backstory (along with other things): Tissues, a blanket, a support animal or plushie, and something to punch.
pell not dying was having a backlash from fans before because it just means that one piece is one of those anime that doesnt kill. BUT IM TELLING YOU DONT TRUST IT BECAUSE YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN SOMEONE DIES FOR REAL HAHAHA
i hope you notice alicia that robin is not calling them by name but by their jobs.
The power of P. is too hot to handle, too cold to hold
Someone needs to show her the four sword style image, you all know the one.
Robin: "I dont wanna live no more leave me down her-"
Luffy: "I DONT REMEMBER ASKING YOU A GODDAMN THING!"
Devil Fruit Bios:

Name Origin: 'Ori', Japanese for cage
Ability: User can manifest iron-like constructs from their body to bind enemies
okay NOW shes REALLY going in blind. No more accidentally spoiled plot points (hopefully)
Yeah the whole Pell being alive thing is nuts. From what I understand they did it because 911 happened around this time, and well yeah. I could be wrong about that though. However....
There is a really awesome TH-camr named Mugiwara No Goofy. He has a few videos out, and one has an explanation for why this happened in universe. Now a lot of his stuff is about things after this point but 2 of the videos would be safe and talk only about stuff on Alabasta. They are called "Alabasta Is Hilarious" and "Alabasta Is Hilarious Part 2" and are great. They would make great content too. So a reaction to them might be a lot of fun for us as well. Anyway, awesome reaction as always. Hope you have an amazing day.
don't worry she won't hurt you with her back story till way later. when you get there, she'll rip your heart out.
Honestly? I feel bad for Vivi saying this but I think it would've been better if Pell had stayed dead. He hasn't done anything in over nine hundred episodes now to merit his survival, so it just undermines his sacrifice.
It's one of Oda's rare narrative sins and probably the biggest one.
Btw Pell's survival is infamous in the fandom
when Alicia gets to Robin's back story, Niagara falls.
Something that kinda annoys me about the subtitles is that they don’t accurately portray Gina’s habit of speaking in the third person. When it says “I’m angry.” it should really be saying “Hina’s angry.”
