  • Today I watched ALL of the openings and try to figure out the plot of this anime called One Piece. It's been such an experience seeing the evolution of the animation quality going god tier over the years after every title opening. I kind of want to watch the best action animation moments and give it a chef kiss. If you guys enjoyed the video hit the like and subscribe button and tell me your favorite thing about One Piece in the comments below!

    Don’t skip any cannon episode. Not only will you be lost, you’re gonna miss out big time on TONS of incredible writing/emotions/action. Oda is such a gifted writer, that ANYTHING can be important from any given arc and he doesn’t seem to forget anything he ever writes about, so it’s possible to see early stuff show up much later on.
    Example: an arc called Skypia was often thought to be irrelevant (I never agreed cause I loved Skypia), but hundreds of episodes later, it turns out Skypia was one of the most important arcs foreshadowing current events/lore.

    I have to say, DO NOT SKIP. Dont go and watch some important episodes and proceed to skip hundreds of episodes into the story to where "you want to be" The story is deep and there's a reason for it to be the best selling manga ever. Also don't try to figure out too much about the story through the openings because they show very little about the actual story going on

  • @devaunbeats
    @devaunbeats 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +126

    Please do not skip stuff. Thats the worst thing you can do. One Piece lives and dies by its characters, world building and foreshadowing. Its not about the destination, its abour the journey and you'd be doing yourself and One Piece a huge disservice by just skipping everything.

    • @PichNuts
      @PichNuts 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +17

      It's tasty, but if you try to dive in and eat from the bottom first you don't know what you are eating because it's dark and if you force yourself to eat it all in one sitting you are going to get sick. So it's better to eat it in in moderation and savor the experience.

    A thing to keep in mind with the One PIece op's, especially the earlier ones, is that several shots are based on two page full colored spreads that Oda puts into the manga. Usually those are just shots of the crew hanging out and having fun together, nothing particularly plot relevant, but they act as a fun little showcase of how close the crew is and how much they enjoy being together.
    Also, while my personal favorite arc is pre-timeskip, this is a series that really only gets better and better as it goes on. My favorite arc just happens to have my personal favorite villain in the series and is the payoff to a lot of build up after the crew enters the Grand Line. Quality drop off generally happens when a writer starts to lose passion from having to stretch out their work well beyond the breaking point, but Oda is no less passionate about One Piece now than was back when the manga first dropped.

    I cannot describe to you just how fun, and emotional the journey through one piece has been. There is no series that has made me laugh or cry as much as one piece has. Oda's work is absolutely a modern day masterpiece in the making, and I hope to be there when to final chapter is written so that I can laugh and cry in all the amazing memories the series had given me.

    The series is very dramatic and character centric with the world being interconnected so skipping arc isn't really recommended but if you really want to go through it a lot faster then I recommend ONE PACE or honestly still the best way to consume One Piece personally for me is to read the manga. Its a lot, but the show is running for over 25 years so its just like that. he married the theater actress for nami , but spents only hours at home every week while sleeping at work.
    Also the charakter Design gets deepened by oda giving each charakter attributes /reallife backstory or myth that encompasses them .
    For example shanks resembles the nordic god of war which sacrificed his arm to the demonwolf to seal him and delay ragnarok, thats hinted by shanks ship beeing a viking ship.

    I understand you don't want to watch from the start cause it really is hella too long. But it really is too crucial to see every canon episodes or chapters of one piece cause its important to grow with the characters and the plot for it to really hit the spot when crucial events happen. Also, there's too much details scattered upon episodes to miss any of them for you to really enjoy the journey. But it really is long so there is this thing called ONE PACE. They are more straightforward episodes that removed all filler moments and episodes and edited only all of the important ones. It's much shorter and easier to get into compared to the actual episodes. Hope you check it out👍 I'd be on board with you if you do. Heck any one piece fans eat those kind of reactions up from newcomers cause it's another excuse to experience One Piece again and again. That's how good it is.

    It really should be watched (or read, it would at least be a lot faster) in order. This is the "story skipping straight to Shadowbringers" thing, but for anime (except the east blue saga & Alabasta are better than ARR). The earlier parts of the show have plenty of the best arcs and a lot of people prefer them for the more freeform story and adventure vibe. There are a lot more moving parts to the world later on, and it's still good, but you'd miss a lot if you jump right into that.
    A good example of this is the Log Pose, which is a compass that guides them on a semi-random path in the right general direction on the Grand Line. You use one of those and you don't know where you're going to end up next. Post-timeskip, only 2 of the islands were/will be arrived at this way (PH and EH to avoid spoilers). The other 5 were all known and headed to directly for plot purposes.

    Nice reaction. You seem very intelligent in your analysis and you definitely have some good knowledge on typical shonen tropes. But the beauty of One Piece is that it is much, *MUCH* more complex than your typical shonen. Most arcs aren't centered around just one specific character, most characters that you see in the openings aren't simply villains but rather very complex characters with their own goals, motivations, principles etc. There are so many factions, so many alliances, so many rivalries and very few are ever truely back and white.

There is a running gag about him swooning over the female crew members, but since the crew dynamic is very much a found family sort of deal it's not played romantically and the girls either just enjoy his pampering or comedically punish him if he's acting hornier than usual.

    Lol its impossible to recommend a few episodes to watch just so you can start late in the series. One Piece is an insanely deep series. The plot is thicc literally. Things that happen in the early episodes tie in to episodes very late into the series and when you experience that stuff its what makes the series so good. I know the early openings made it seem like not much was going on, but that's just because the openings weren't showing anything that was actually happening :)
    One Piece as a long story is going strong because the story is not lost. It gets exponentially better over time because the author loves his story. It is filled with mystery and adventure and will make you cry :)

  • @MetatronM
    @MetatronM 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    The closest thing I can compare One Piece to in any medium is, seriously, FFXIV. They're both massive sprawling stories that excel at keeping track of loooooooong standing plot threads with huge interconnected worlds and really deeply explored characters. For example, those openings with the stuff with Ace that you liked happened around the 400s and into the early 500s, but that story saga actually began with episode 325, and some of the characters involved (aside from Luffy) were introduced as early as episode 1 of the anime. So it's an extremely long burn of a series. This is both a good thing (it's hard to overstate just how massive yet well-told the story is) and a bad thing (it can really slow down and have pacing issues at times, especially in anime form and especially post-timeskip).
    I would compare jumping into One Piece anywhere other than the beginning to be roughly equivalent to buying a story skip in XIV to start at Shadowbringers. Yeah, you can do it, and you'll probably have a good time, but you're also missing a big part of the reason why it's as beloved as it is.

    the reason why his arms turn black is that every person in one piece has something called haki (hä-kee) which is a energy in their body which they can train and grow in strength. If you train your haki then you can coat your body (why it turns black) and even weapons in it, which greatly increases their durability and power (the stronger your haki, the stronger it's affects), along with allowing you to harm logia type fruit users (basically their body is made of a natural element and cannot be normally harmed). Further more, extremely experienced users with very powerful haki can actually push haki out of their body as a weapon, or even use it to hit things without making physical contact. Also haki is normally invisible until used to coat your body/weapons.
    this is getting REALLY long, but, one more thing is that some people with VERY strong haki have it coating their body unconsciously, which creates invisible and extremely powerful armor on their skin and body.

    Hope you join the One Piece Family soon! Oda has made a series that tickles the heart constantly. A Genius Author if I ever watched.
    Also, I'm impressed you got a number of things right by the Openings alone! Good Job!

    I recently binged One Piece starting from August till the end of November with like 2 day breaks after big arc or saga endings. 10/10 would recommend

    Oda, the writer, of the show, is an expert at connecting things. Like, something that occurred as early as Luffy's first flashback can become relevant by the halfway point of the adventure. Or having a character that appeared in the background in an early arc become important after the time skip. At least when it comes to the canon non-filler episodes, you'd be surprised how many details that are passed over earlier become important later.

    We One Piece fans are known for being... passionate... and that's because this story means a lot to us, lol. From the beginning to the current arc, this series is entirely worth your time and investment. There are "better" arcs than others (and the war one you saw is so mind-blowingly good that I frequently had to stop for a bit mid-episode to breathe), but they're only as good as they are because of everything that built up to it.
    To be clear, it's not "doing your homework" to get to the good stuff. It's going on an adventure and getting swept through deep and emotional events alongside characters that you've grown to love and care for.
    So... I recommend reading it from the start, or trying One Pace. The regular anime is great as well, but it has a bit of a pacing problem sometimes. Regardless, starting from the beginning is definitely what I (and the entirety fanbase) would recommend.

    Wow, playing the openings even without the subtitles. Hardcore mode unlocked. 👀

    This show got so much heart. Start at the beginning. The fights are freaking awesome through and through. 1000 episodes flew by pretty fast.

    Holy moly I've watched a LOT of these 'new fans / non-fans react to OP openings' vids and NONE of the people who do those are anywhere NEAR as crazy-perceptive as you... you have no idea how many things you guessed perfectly and how many things you noticed that lead you to correct, or really close conclusions. This was a treat to watch!!! Thank you!!
    Also, as to your question on whether pre- or post-timeskip are better... Really, the series keeps its quality up AMAZINGLY well the whole way through for such a long series... it doesn't start falling flat later in the story like many tend to. That being said, if you made me choose I might say pre-TS just for the nostalgia factor and the cartoonier style the show used to have, and how much more it was able to focus on the main characters and their interrelationships before a BILLION characters and story threads and lore threads were seeded over the course of the whole series, but the post-TS is also iNCREDIBLE as you get to to see all those seeded threads unravel and unfold with MORE being added all the time and the author able to juggle it all MASTERFULLY.
