It's funny as I started with Tressa not knowing how strong each of them were at the time. I just felt that the merchant as a class is interesting and has game breaking potential. And I was not wrong. I paired her with Alphyn and the thief and it was gg wp.
I know how busted rune blade tressa is, but I think it good to mention that she does qualify as a ace of all trades, she has very good synergy with all jobs, even without rune blade her utility is really good
Cyrus's kit being worse than Sorcerer does not make him an F-tier character. As you said, he is one of the best early game choices, and even that alone should make him be higher up on the list. As for subclasses, he COULD still go Sorcerer, considering his high E. Atk, until you get access to elemental-boosting weapons for other characters. In mid-game Cleric or Dancer works best for him, upping his E. Atk stats and giving him more of a support role + amazing divine skills. In the end-game, Starseer fits him nicely, as he can hit any elemental weakness while still doing great damage. He also gets a nice hat.
I used Primrose as my Alfyn/Ohpelia substitute by giving her cleric. My protagonist is Scholar/Sorcerer Therion so in the early game it was nice to have the light and dark coverage. I did end up dropping her for starseer Alfyn though.

It increases the power of your attacks or the amount of turns a status effect or buff stays on your allies or enemies. You use right bumper to raise the BP. One orb is restored every turn. If you use BP, the orb restoration has cool down for one round before it starts accumulating again.
Agree 100% - my party was Alfyn, Tressa, Therion and Olberic because Olberic was my starter and I just prefer him over H'annit. Because my starter was so far ahead of everyone else, though, I found myself trying to handicap him by giving him something very different to do (usually dancing). It was just too boring to obliterate everything in a couple hits with him.
Cyrus can pair well with Sorcerer (It's a no brainer, he just has huge E.atk), Starseeker (Great light damage, pairs well with his huge E.atk), Merchant (Being able to dish out high amounts of wind damage is great, as well as getting Donate BP, as well as being able to get it early on), cleric (early light damage with healing abilities) and the list keeps on going. The main reason why people don't use him as much is due to the very low defence. I don't think he should be in the top tier, nor the bottom tier, but probably somewhere in the middle.
Hi, not sure if you will see this as I just got into Octopath. I always prefer being "good" in RP games. So I started out with Ophelia as my main Traveler, as she seems to be my favorite just by trying them all out. I don't want to steal or do anything "bad" so would this lock me into using all 4 "noble" characters. I for sure want Tressa anyway. I'd like to have H'aanit, but wouldn't mind substituting her for Olberic if I MUST to not be "bad." As for the fourth, I suppose it would need to be Alfyn. Any suggestions?

I like to give Cyrus merchant or apothacary for the single target magic attacks which are pretty powerful for him. Alfyn makes a powerful warrior I find. Hunter for Therion which makes his Steal Sp godly. Thief for Olberic for the same reason. Starseer for Ophilia. Sorcerer, Warmaster, Runelord for Primrose, H'aanit and Tressa respectively.
Can you make a list like this for Arc the Lad Twilight of the Spirits. It's an old RPG that a lot of people seem to have forgotten about, but it's really good.
Think Olberic should be higher. Makes for a nigh unkillable tank as an apothocary and the diffrence between Haniit and him at being a warmaster is bearly noticable. Shes slightly more accurate hes slightly tankier at it comes down to prefernce.

My team was sorcerer Cyrus (he was my main cuz his job was the only one that sounded like it would be focused on magic) warmaster Alfyn, runeblade Therion and starseeker Ophilia. Before I got the master classes it was cleric Cyrus, warrior Alfyn (wanted a dps tank) merchant Therion (did it because i thought it was funny and it worked damn well) and dancer Ophilia
Idk if you take recommendations but I’d say you should do an atelier game since I think it’d be cool to see what you think are the best and worse party members

Talking about units in one route is hard enough, but then you need to take other routes into account and all the factors there (example, Ingrid is better in other routes than her own and is stronger the later you recruit her due to her stats being calculated based on the high enemy pegasus knight stat growths).
The reason I disagree on scholar being useless is that it helps you hit enemies’ weaknesses like no other class, which is crucial to many battles. I beat the hidden superboss in this game (one of the toughest boss fights I’ve ever experienced) and gave Starseer to Cyrus, Warmaster to Olberon, Sorceror to Ophelia, made Therion a speedy Cleric, didn’t even use Runelord, and just leaned heavily on the Merchant, Apothecary, and Dancer skills for the rest. (Yes, Dancer IS a great class, it just requires a very specific setup to be so.) To anyone trying to beat that hidden super-boss with no guide…GOOD LUCK.
Scholar is amazing early game, problem is it get outclass in every way by sorceror, and funny enough Cyrus isn't the best Sorceror due to a mechanic allowing to stack the damage bonus of 2 pieces of equipment for 1 element allowing all attack from that element to be boost further. Due to his lack of equipment choice as Scholar, Cyrus can't achieve this with the Sorceror Class, making the least interesting choice, and this is relevant exploiting weakness is only usefull for breaking Shield, once Shield is broken weakness doesn't matter all type of damage simply get a x2 damage multiplier that overright the weakness multiplier.
I don't think any character is below mid tier unless you are speed running or doing some challenge run or something. All of them have their merits and can break the game even if some do it better than others.
Base the characters off of their classes… not subclasses and super classes. Also to everyone saying Cyrus is only good for grinding… well guess what? You’ll be grinding for a majority of tge game. That IS part of the game. I can’t even take this video seriously and I’m barely a minute in.
That’s the best part. Take my research and compare it with your experience to decide your true tier list. There are way too many variables and preferences in video games to actually make anything definite .
Capturing shit for Haanit's ability is not worth it at all. It is not needed and is simply too annoying to engage with. Alphen should absolutely be god tier. He is truly the only character that can do what he does.

If it's important to you that the cast is interconnected and fleshed out, I wouldn't call it particularly good. The overarching story itself is also very basic. Ultimately, what the game comes down to is its 8 unique solo-experiences. So, you're basically playing through all characters' individual story with the other characters barely having any say, not appearing in cutscenes, etc. In that sense the other party members are only supportive gameplay characters. Out of the 8 individual characters, really each and every single one can be your favourite, dependant on what you're looking for. However, if you're looking for great antagonists, this game really only has to offer one fairly good developed character. So, personally I'd say that most of the characters' stories are fairly average (If I had to rank them, I'd say that none are really bad per se, but I'd say the worst were Ophilia's and Haanit's story. Then slightly above average character stories are Olberic, Therion and Cyrus. And my personal favourites are Tressa, Alfyn and Primrose (Primrose being perceived as the absolute best in the fandom. I think her story is truly magnificent) But again, it really depends on what you're looking for. Tressa's story couldn't be more different than Primrose's. However, the writing is EXCELLENT. Let me tell you. I'm an author, and I was pleasently thrilled by the fluent writing this game has to offer. Besides that it has classical job systems that are fun to explore if you're into JRPGs, challenging and really deep combat for a basic turn-based game. It has a marvelous atmosphere and mood setting and some of the best RPG music out there (seriously, the praise this game got for its music is absolutely crazy). It has its negative AND postive aspects, so it's hard for me to tell whether you'll personally like it. The reviews were fairly divided about the missing overarching story and total lack of character interactions, some even saying that the party doesn't really feel like a party, and more like the character whose story you're playing through accompanied by NPCs. The characters themselves are enjoyable, definitely, so not the characters themselves are 'lacking', it's more like that the game feels like the total OPPOSITE ofgames like Persona, where character relations are the highest priority in game design. It also has issues with pacing, difficulty spikes and some back-tracking/random encounter shenanigans. You can somewhat influence the amount of random encounters with a skill that Cyrus has, but the random encounters come in fixed intervals (in that case they aren't really random, I guess). It's sometimes quite a hassle and has gotten a lot of criticism for being quite tiring sometimes. I'd say give it a shot if you find a good price for it and are into JRPGs, but be wary because it's really not for everyone, so I don't wanna lie to you and try to convince you into buying it. I truly enjoyed my time with this game but I cannot recommend it to everyone. Hope this helped :)
I just finished the game. imo the weakest part of the game is late early and early mid-game because the whole game is so repetitive and with multiple stories being pretty boring. my story ranking would be: Good - Primrose, Olberic, Cyrus. Average - Haanit, Therion, Alfyn. worst - Ophilia and Tressa. I was close to stop playing but I am on holidays and have nothing else to do :) If you reach chapter 3 you get used to it and for the most part the 3rd chapter is interesting for a lot of characters. What else kept me playing? I spent some time (and enjoyed) building up my team, upgrading equipment, stealing items. I also activate the abilities to dodge encounters and have a higher success rate to flee sometimes. just because I wanted to explore the world a bit more and exploring without it is super frustrating. keep in mind builds like the ones in the video are very late game builds. To beat the bosses for the secret classes you have to be quite strong already, at a point you can easily beat every story. I’d give the game a 5-6 out of 10. with some parts being 9-10 (presentation, music) and others are 2-3 with a high chance of dropping the game. If you like turn based, want a better story, amazing music with some really iconic tracks, better cast and overall IMO a way better experience play something like Final Fantasy X
Gameplay's really fun. There's really not much if an inter-connectes story or party interactions. Play it for each individual story and/or fun RPG gameplay.
But you have to use all party members for the true final boss (which I never did cause it and the non saveable boss rush before it can piss off) so in this case only knowing the best job combos help here to an extent. Did you beat the true final boss if so tell me what you did.
runelord tressa is beyond god tier in my opinion no other combination even compares to runelord tressa and im a basic bitch so i would take ophilia in any sub job over alfyn any day as unlike FFX and mix where items are easy to come by as most battles are quick concoct is too much of an issue to use regularly because of how long random battles can last

It's really a shame. I like his talent where he automatically reveals one weakness of every enemy when the battle starts. Totally wasted on him.

I like to use Therion with warrior for the taunt evasion strat.
Try that with Thressa. Sidestep with taunt is pretty cool

The only unit that has failed me in this game was Therion simply because Primose was just nuking instantly while Therion wasnt
