    hey man, i had the same issue with a modern day gaming laptop, the ASUS TUF F15, the fan wouldnt stop rattling and even though there were videos telling me how to fix it, i wasnt convinced to act on any of them because i wanted to know the cause for the rattle and only then would i be absolutely sure of doing something like this... and you gave me just that, the cause, the solution, everything. from the bottom of my heart id like to thank you my g, keep doing what you do!!!!

    Cheers -- Fixed mine too. Clean and bit of oil. Fan was just grinding and not cooling. Just stress tested and all good now. Thanks

    These are standard laptop fans and i bought a few also for $2. I have yet to do the job but the only possible difference would be the connector and I would just exchange one connector for the other if needed. I notice people are peeling back the label on the front side, applying a drop of oil on the (spindle, bearing, whatever it is) and thats considered a permanent fix. Since I have the new one I might oil the new one and end this problem. I notice on all electric motors there is no lube at all and that can account for early failure. I realize motors are made without grease so that the spinning wont distribute the lube everywhere but the right lube wouldnt be a worry if you dont over do it. The only time lube might not help is when so much scoring has damaged the bearing but its always worth a try to examine, clean up the bearing and try.

      I think the dry and dusty environment contributed to this failure.

      @@TechworksOnline Personally I think thats a fallacy unless the spindle-bearing is open to dust and full but they arent. Dirty blades dont mean a failed fan. I just sold a laptop, it has 3 fans, very clogged with dirt but the fans run fine. This NUC, its in an ideal environment, even with air filters for the NUC and still the fan is failing. What I think contributes to fail is lack of bearing lubrication and the BAD quality of these dumb little fans. Another video shows how to install heat sinks on a NUC and it lowers the temp 25 degrees. Im not sure its possible to do on my NUC, we'll see. As it is, im running severely too hot now. I use Speedfan to monitor this and notice the fan is not responsive to speed adjustments and is running too slow and erratically. Im certain the fan will not be very dirty when i open it. Im trying to locate a CMOS battery so i change both at the same time.

      Hmm interesting! I have three of these same models. The only one that gave any fan trouble was this one that was in basically an industrial mechanic shop. The other 2 have 0 issues and have been running the same amount of time, so you can see how I arrived at this conclusion 🤷‍♂️

      @@TechworksOnline I think you just got "lucky" with the bad one that was in the dirtier environment. That said, if the blades are very dirty the fan will slow the flow of air but as long as the motor shaft is sealed from dirt it will still work. But if the shaft and bearing become scored from lack of lube it will run fast and slow until it finally stops which is what im facing. NUC fans run at 4000rpm when new but as i monitor this its running between 300 and 2000rpm and then you get increasing heat. When new, NUC will be about 90-100 degrees and mine is now at 150 degrees. Both are too hot! The colder the better! I learned long ago that the ideal temp for computers should be 32 degrees -- freezing. In fact in the old days computers in companies operated in special airconditioned shacks which were kept extremely cold.

    3 in 1 may be bit thick for that type of fan, usually OK for large fans like extractors. I would suggest using sewing machine oil for laptop types.

      I would have used thinner oil but didn't have any at the time. Another suggestion is to use beard/hair trimmer oil it is thin and stays around pretty good. So far the 3in1 is still working great.

    I have a model BOXNUC7PJYH1 and the fan model is BAZB0508R5U but I can’t seem to find a replacement. Mine says 5V DC , .5A but all the replacements I see that look similar on Amazon are .4A

    I have a 2016 NUC. Recently the fan is making a loud noise at startup. It lasts about 20 seconds and then it quiet down. Is it from the fan? If it is, what fan do I use? Do you have the link for the fan you bought at aliexpress? Also, I like your toolbox. Where did you buy it?

    What is the recommended period for cleaning the fan?

    • @TechworksOnline
      @TechworksOnline  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Depends on environment - if there is a visible layer of dust on the blades, probably should clean it.
